Summer 23 Boot Camp, Week 6: beyond the doldrums

Here we are at Week 6 already, the one where - ideally - you get beyond the Weeks 3, 4 and 5 doldrums Grin. And if, for whatever recent, you're not, then KOKO, drink all the water and maybe post what you've been eating so we can see if there is anything you can tweak. We're all here both to support and be supported. Smile

@FinallyHere will be along shortly to post the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. It truly is fabulous to see the results coming in Smile

There are a few newbies who have either only started recently or only recently de-lurked. Welcome Flowers . We're a friendly bunch and as long as you follow the Rules you'll see the Results Wink And if you're not seeing the results that you'd like, then post what you've been eating on here and ask advice.

Remember, as with any healthy diet, weight loss will stabilise (after the initial whoosh) at an average of 1-2lb a week.

@venusandmars can you please do all of my meal plans 😍.
We're off - slightly later than advertised as DC had to have an x-ray, standard footie injuries!!! - with half the house in tow 😂. Have a great weekend all

@Glorianna I was away last week and flew up too. But it disappeared quickly with strict BC and lost of water. It's not 5lbs of fat.

Eanair23 · 28/07/2023 10:08

I'm muddling along here with not a lot to report.
I did a really nice chicken dish this week. Skinless thighs, that's what came in the delivery but I also prefer for stews. I fried the thighs for a few minutes with peppers and onions. Then added a stock cube, herbs and finished in the oven. No water.
Then I mixed in mascarpone - this is my latest discovery. It never curdles and makes everything delicious!
I've lost last week's gain, which is great so fingers crossed for a loss Monday.

venusandmars · 28/07/2023 10:09

It's my birthday Grin I've just been for a lovely walk in the morning sunshine. Will have bacon and scrambled agg for bruch, with a creamy coffee, then we're off to a restaurant tonight with friends.

Coffeeandcherrypie · 28/07/2023 10:44

Happy Birthday @venusandmars ! July babies are the best Wink

Thanks Eanair! That’s spurred me on to keep with the BC and water.

I’ve remembered I had quite a lot of salted sunflower seeds as they were LC, I wonder if that caused the water retention.

OldandTired66 · 28/07/2023 12:27

I am home alone all weekend and absolutely relishing the solitude. I can eat what I want when I want and not have to prepare carby versions of everything. Watch trash TV and play whatever music I like. I'll probably do something exciting like sort out the linen cupboard. Boiled egg for breakfast, smoked mackerel salad for lunch, cheesy chicken and leeks bake, broccoli for dinner.

FinallyHere · 28/07/2023 14:02

Happy Birtbday @venusandmars

bowiesmum · 28/07/2023 19:34

Another great day! Loving this diet so much, can't believe how little I miss carbs Grin

Breakfast - scrambled egg smoked salmon asparagus

Lunch - chicken, left over cauliflower mash and green beans

Dinner: steak, aubergine bake (delish!) mushrooms and onions and pepper sauce

Snack later on night shift, no sugar jelly, cream and raspberries

bowiesmum · 28/07/2023 19:34

Also down another lb this am!! How is this possible to lose 4 lbs in 5 days?!

HappiDaze · 28/07/2023 22:03

The weathers a bit meh so I'm not exactly inspired to go on long walks so I'm doing garden stuff and housework instead

B - FFGY and half a grapefruit
L - salami, ice tea with lemon 🍋
D - chicken tandoori which I marinaded last night in yogurt, tandoori powder and lemon juice) with lettuce, handful of nuts with dark chocolate.

MovingRightAlong · 28/07/2023 23:30

My water consumption was very poor today. I should manage another glass or two before bed, but it was definitely not enough.

B: strawberries, yoghurt and cream, coffee with cream
L: Salad & egg mayo, coffee with cream
D: steak & cauli cheese

I love seeing other people’s meals for inspiration. How did you make the aubergine bake @bowiesmum ? I keep buying aubergines then not getting around to using them so I’m on the lookout for some tasty, foolproof recipes.

bowiesmum · 29/07/2023 02:20

There's the recipe there, it was gorgeous! Kids even liked it. I'm peeing so much! I'm drinking loads of water but peeing literally every 45 mins or so!

Aubergine bake sounds delicious @bowiesmum. Treat for breakfast today, fried torn up strips of parma ham in oil, drop an egg or two on top, delicious saltiness. Lunch: chicken salad, Dinner: Steak, roast veg.

MovingRightAlong · 29/07/2023 09:45

Thank you! That does sound delicious.

HappiDaze · 29/07/2023 20:17

That's different to my aubergine parmigiana bake

I layer up tomato ragu sauce, thinly sliced aubergines and slices of mozzarella cheese and bake in the oven between 45-60 mins on 180 till it's all melted together. You can add Parmesan between layers or on top

I used to fry the aubergine slices first but now I just cut them very thinly

Suxeed · 29/07/2023 20:47

@venusandmars thank you for all the fab recipe ideas

venusandmars · 29/07/2023 21:52

Tonight I had one of my favourites - chicken liver pilaf. Our local supermarkets no longer stock chicken livers, so I grab them when I can. Shallots fried in butter, add crushed garlic and chicken livers, deglaze with brandy. Add tabasco, worcestershire sauce, 100 ml stock and simmer gently. Add cream and chopped parsely. dh had his on rice, mine was on finely sliced cabbage. Delicious!

@bowiesmum @HappiDaze all those aubergine recipes sound gorgeous. Can't wait until the next time an aubergine arrives in my veg box! hmm, that sounds surprisingly rude!!

I had a great meal out last night, barely a carb in sight (might have been a few hidden ones), and well able to resist the pudding. However they brought a little petit four to finsih with. I had no desire to eat I, I had no need to eat it. But everyone at the table was rhapsodizing about how it wasn't sweet at all, quite savoury, and stupidly under pressure I had a tiny nibble. It was ridiculously sweet - what were they thinking. And I was really cross with myself that the last bite I ate was not one I enjoyed. I was stuck with sugar on my tongue. Give me a salted almond to finish with any time.

LadyBird1973 · 29/07/2023 22:07

Hi all,
Am away for the weekend so doing my best food wise. Had some rollitos for lunch and an iced almond coffee with 2 squares of dark choc. Dinner was teriyaki salmon with sesame seeds and stir fried veg. It came with some rice but I only ate half. Had Irish coffee for dessert. Did lots of walking so hopefully offset some of the carbs!

venusandmars · 30/07/2023 09:00

Friends coming for dinner tonight, so will eat very lightly until then. Some wine will be had.

After this it's strict bootcamp until my holiday in mid-September.

Eanair23 · 30/07/2023 11:26

I bingewatched tv Friday night. Late to bed led to inevitable carbs Saturday evening! One day to weigh in 🤐

Goodiewhemper · 30/07/2023 12:28

Good morning everyone. Thank all of you for the good wishes after my car incident earlier in the week. Another crazy work week and didn't get to clock in here every day. Overall I did well foodwise but I mindlessly grabbed a handful of crisps last night and devoured them. I am not going to dwell on it as the deed is done but I am a bit annoyed with myself.

Breakfast was some cloud bread and a coffee with cream.
Lunch today will be scrambled duck egg with cream cheese and smoked salmon.
Dinner tonight will be rack of lamb, cauliflower and cheese and roasted butternut squash with sage and butter. The rest of the family will have new potatoes as well. If there was one food that I could magically make low carb it would be potatoes. I miss my spuds 😞

ItsAsIfWeWereThere · 30/07/2023 13:55

All good here. I’m just KOKOing. I’m off work at the moment (teacher) and I’m probably consuming a bit more food than usual as I’ve more time on my hands, but I’m keeping to plan (and by no means stuffing myself for the hell of it)
Todays menu is..
B coffee and cream (x2)
L tandoori hot smoked salmon (from M&S) with home made garlic and mint yoghurt dip, avocado and salad.
D planning on having chicken thighs wrapped in chorizo in a cheese sauce with green beans.
snacks: ffgy, 6 almonds.

Lucienandjean · 30/07/2023 21:30

I came back from camping yesterday and made the mistake of weighing myself 😱. I knew my eating hadn't been perfect but I had tried to stick to Bootcamp principles. Clearly that didn't go as well as I hoped.

So I'm back on strict BC and I just hope the weight gain is mostly water and will go over the next few days.

prettybird · 30/07/2023 21:36

Sorry I've not been around: my dad was ill with a bad UTI and I had to help him out (as he had muscle weakness and no energy to do anything it's really unlike him to ask for help Sad) and now I've had to spend the last day or so with bad stomach cramps myself Sad

No brain power to do anything Sad
