Summer 2023 BootCamp thread: Sign up thread

New Boot Camp starting on 19 June. I've checked with @BIWI and she's said it's ok! , so I'm not stepping on her toes.

I'm in desperate need of a proper Boot Camp as dh and I are off to South Africa in September as our 25th wedding anniversary present to ourselves. The discipline of running Boot Camp will help keep me focussed. I've run one before when BIWI wasn't available and although I'm not as knowledgeable and my Big Stick is not quite as big, with the help of all the other knowledgeable Boot Campers, we've still seen good results.

There are some companies that make low carb meals - like the Seriously Low Carb company (although I have never tried them so can't vouch for them)

Ah, thats really interesting BIWI. It might be good to get a few of those to keep in the freezer for emergency days when I would otherwise fall into some really bad eating habits. Just knowing they were there would help to keep me on track.

That's if I can find freezer space among the 15 kilos of raw dog food that we order in every six weeks or so for our pampered pooch. I'm much better at keeping him on the low carb wagon than keeping myself on it.

I would love to do it all again! On a hen weekend so will need it by Monday. Thanks @prettybird and @

Yay! I’ve been largely maintaining LC since BC but have got into bad habits like Kind bars, sugar free Coffee Mate, half a tub of strawberries at a time. Need to recalibrate!

@Random789 adding to what @BIWI said, carbs are relatively cheap, and as retailers try to avoid increasing prices they use tricks like reducing pack sizes and increasing the proportion of cheap ingredients. I reckon M&S will be doing a bit of that - they'll not want to increase the price of the product to more than £x and so they have to find ways to make it cheaper instead so increase the proportion of cheaper carbs. That's the whole "beauty" of modern food manufacture, they can use industrial processes and/or chemicals to make us want to consume the cheap filler they use as the base for a product and we pay them handsomely for doing it. They don't want everyone to cook at home using whole ingredients because there's nowhere for them to "add value".

Can I ask why some people don't use the spreadsheet?

I do sometimes have ready meals. I tend to find curries are generally low carb and I cook myself some buttery cauliflower rice as a side.
I’ve included the nutritional value for Waitrose and Iceland (slimming world) curry.
