Morning all. Sorry for posting the thread late, but I slept in this morning. The perils of being retired!

As ever, here's the link to the spreadsheet

I hope you enjoyed the vegetarian meal challenge - I certainly did, and I loved making the aubergine, spinach and paneer curry inspired by @mimosa1.

So now we're in the last three weeks. Hopefully things have been going well, since we left behind weeks 3 & 4, and you've settled into a good routine, and have found different ways to deal with the temptation of the carbs.

This week, I'm after fish recipes. We don't tend eat much fish, which is something I feel bad about - but it's driven mainly by a poor choice in our local supermarket. So I tend to fall back on to salmon - which is fine, but I need a bit more inspiration. We do have a Waitrose not too far away, which has a fresh fish counter, so will look forward to any ideas!

Good luck for the next week Flowers

Thank you @OldandTired66

I'm afraid I posted my doom and gloom message before checking what could be done in this day and age of the could and version histories.

The version you are seeing with the weigh in sheet is the one I restored at 09:17-ish

FinallyHere · 16/02/2023 09:26

Thank you for offering @OldandTired66 but it's all good again in the world of google as far as I can see.

OldandTired66 · 16/02/2023 09:26

Oh, just seen the update about the spreadsheet. Ignore me!

Rollerbird · 16/02/2023 09:37

Could I please join? Done a week alone and have lost 4lb.
Completely overjoyed and its going to be good to get some support and ideas.

NotDonna · 16/02/2023 09:42

Well done @rollerbird! I recognise your name. Did you do October BC?

Rollerbird · 16/02/2023 10:00

I put my name down but didn't do it. I'm fully committed this time.

prettybird · 16/02/2023 10:13

Welcome @Rollerbird Flowers

You've made a brilliant start and we're here to support you. Smile

TangledWebOfDeception · 16/02/2023 10:15

Morning everyone! 🌻🌻🌻

Welcome @Rollerbird 💐

Going to read back now but just wanted to get a ‘hello’ in first.

Rollerbird · 16/02/2023 11:06

I'm sure this must have been asked before
Is there any magic keto friendly gravy recipe for my meat and veg roast dinner on Sunday?

TangledWebOfDeception · 16/02/2023 11:33

I would use shallots cooked down in butter, add cooking juices and possibly a small amount of brandy (or wine, depending on what you’re having it with), boil away the alcohol and then reduce, add a touch of cream at the end and plenty of pepper. Salt to taste. If you reduce it enough it gets thick enough to use as a sauce, but isn’t exactly gravy. However it’s very tasty all the same and hits the gravy spot for me!

TangledWebOfDeception · 16/02/2023 11:35

I usually also add a bit of mustard.

FinallyHere · 16/02/2023 11:46

@Rollerbird

Welcome.

I've added your name to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness on the weigh in tab.

This carries absolutely no obligation for you to do anything. You are very however very welcome to fill in your row of the weigh in record sheet.

Other tabs have lots of useful information too.

TangledWebOfDeception · 16/02/2023 11:50

(to add to the above, I always use double cream)

prettybird · 16/02/2023 12:02

The other thing you can do @Rollerbird ( as well as or instead of @TangledWebOfDeception's suggestion Smile) is to cook some diced carrots, diced tomato and unpeeled garlic cloves and/or neeps along with the shallots until really soft alongside the roasting meat, and then mush them up/shove them trough a sieve, to act as a bit of body in the gravy.

Personally, I've got used to having "jus" rather than gravy - but there again, we're never serving that many people (except at Christmas Xmas Grin) so the small amount I get from deglazing the pan and adding the juices (with the bottom of any decanted wine Wink) is usually sufficient.

TangledWebOfDeception · 16/02/2023 12:06

Oh @prettybird that’s a great idea! Especially because I was just thinking I need something uncreamy/peppercorny for those days where I’d like another option. I’ll try that next time we have roast chicken.

Still haven’t read back...must get myself together to pay proper attention.

Well done everyone

I can't believe I'm Still here plodding away.
Period started over the weekend so last week was awful
I was so hungry and felt rubbish.

Another 1lb loss for me. Its going in the right direction and I know it is a healthy loss but my impatient side is thinking this is going to take forever.
I do look slimmer though.
I've lost from my face and definitely my back.

I have introduced the seriously low carb bread and I suspect that it may be slowing down my losses? Or is that just the impatient me.
I don't have it every day. Maybe twice a week.

And I've definitely been rubbish with my water this week.
I need to be really strict with myself for the last 3 weeks.

I have noticed the same thing. Introduced a low carb wrap to a max of 7g and found weight loss has slowed.

I suspect I have strayed from bootcamp 😬

Is this a no no?

TangledWebOfDeception · 16/02/2023 12:09

Actually, scratch that! I’ll save it for next time we have roast pork as I find the delicious chicken roasting juices are plenty good enough to go with roast chicken. Even DH doesn’t have proper gravy anymore unless we’ve got proper roasties/stuffing/Yorkshire puddings with the roast.

Rollerbird · 16/02/2023 12:09

@prettybird and @TangledWebOfDeception
Definitely 2 recipes to placemark.
My dh actually already does a similar cream sauce with mushrooms also and a glug of sherry. (it's yum with steak)

Rollerbird · 16/02/2023 12:11

Thanks @FinallyHere just spotted this in between the gravy!

TangledWebOfDeception · 16/02/2023 12:11

Yes @Rollerbird it’s classic with steak so would be lovely with roast beef too, but also works very well with pork, and chicken! Hmmm now I’m hungry. 😋😋

FinallyHere · 16/02/2023 12:18

@Skiphopbump

think I’m just desperate to see 22somwthing on the scales!

Your "desperation" really resonated with me. I so recognise that feeling of desperation which was my undoing over many attempts to sign up for and stick with bootcamp (and other very much more expensive programmes).

I actually find the process of weighing myself fraught with potential to undo any efforts. If I 'like' the result, it always seems to be the moment to celebrate (by going off plan) and if I'm disappointed then yes, I'm tempted to eat away those emotions so I'm sad and fat.

What seems to be working for me this time round is to (soz. for the language ) let go of that attachment to the number on the scales.

I've been focusing on how I feel after I've eaten something. I know that when I follow the bootcamp way of eating, I feel better and I get better sleep. I can actually imagine myself eating low carb high fat more or less for ever.

I'm also confident that if I "keep on keeping on (KOKO) I will be the right weight for my height and body shape and I won't have any restrictions on how I can move or on my energy levels. My skin won't break out, my teeth don't bleed: I'll feel like me.

Yes, I'll fit into things I haven't fitted into for ages. I've settled into a routine of weighing myself just once a month or so, on the scales in the gym at work.

I don't suggest not weighing at all. In fact, actually I wish I had had the bottle to weigh myself at what turned out to be my maximum weight but I just couldn't face that number. I estimate I had lost about 10kgs before I could face the scales

I realise that lots of people, including many successful boot campers find weekly or even daily weighing keeps them on track. There may be others, more like me, who find it easier to find motivation in other ways. All that matters really is that we eat this way and keep on keeping on.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 16/02/2023 12:56

Am I the only one who substitutes melted butter for gravy? Blush Quick, easy and oh so tasty drizzled over meat, sausages, whatever!

TangledWebOfDeception · 16/02/2023 13:00

@AllTheBlackCoffee I've never done that...but only because I cook all meat in plenty of oil or butter, my veg is almost always drenched in butter, and I often eat a slice or two (or three) of butter during the day! Grin

AllTheBlackCoffee · 16/02/2023 13:07

You should give it a try @TangledWebOfDeception a little bit more butter can't hurt Grin

In other news, I've just scoffed two squares of 85% chocolate after more than 6 weeks off sugar. No idea WTF is wrong with me today, but hoping that will kill my cravings. It's not even period related, that was last week and caused me no problems at all.
