Morning campers

As ever, here is the spreadsheet

So we start the second half of this Bootcamp.

I sense that things are quietening down a little on the threads, but I hope that doesn't reflect commitment and progress?

It's interesting to hear the chat about maintenance, and very positive that people are starting to realise that it might not be long before they have reached that stage.

Glad to hear you're feeling a bit more positive @FusionChefGeoff

@NigellaAwesom - your cloakroom looks lovely. Love the need to provide for the cat as well Grin

@Moonswimmer and @venusandmars - sailing sounds, to me, like a week/weekend from hell! I'd rather do an SAS outward bound course than be stuck on a tiny boat worrying about how I might go to the loo!

@StuntNun - very impressed that you could just get up and run 2K without training for it! I've completed my C25K so I'm running now for 30 minutes at a time, but I know that I'm nowhere near 5K yet, and it took 9 weeks to reach this stage!

Very envious of you @Andi2020 - wish we were near a beach somewhere.

@ElasticFirecrackers those cheese things sound lovely. What kind of cheese is Maasdam?

@ListenLinda - what do you have in your fridge/freezer/cupboards? We can try and do some kind of 'ready steady cook' for you! Tonight we're going to have a stir-fry, with pork tenderloin and either egg-fried cauliflower rice, or a sort-of pho, using Bare Naked Noodles.

@BSky I'm afraid it's inevitable that too much wine won't help. Bloating is generally dealt with by drinking more water, but I'm sorry that you're having issues with that. If it doesn't resolve itself soon, and you're still having the abdominal ache, I'd get that checked out with your GP. Just to be on the safe side.

Busy next few days here - we're having our Christmas this weekend! Off to pick up SIL from Cardiff and BIL from Bath (DH's brother and sister) and bring them back to us - along with DS2 who will come and join us. So lots of prep work to do to keep us all fed and entertained.

Presents are under the 'tree'; all the beds now have Christmas bedding and we have a couple of Christmas candle ornaments on the mantlepiece as well as little stash of Christmas loo paper in the bathrooms Grin

(Oh, and plenty of Champagne and fizz in the fridge)

B: bacon and cucumber
L: leftover roast chicken and cucumber
D: thai green curry with more leftover roast chicken and lots of veg.

W: not too bad.
MIM: a swim.

FusionChefGeoff · 19/05/2021 18:42

Oooh @ZiggZagg can we do a cartwheel challenge ??? I've been working on upper body strength so will be interested to see if I fall flat on my face or not!

@nowlook that's so right - my mouth is often bored abs oh so lonely. I try to keep it company with vast arrays of different herbal tea but to no avail.

@ElasticFirecracker I agree that looked fine to me!!

My salad was amazing - katsu chicken from aldi was a pre made cheat though.

Does anyone have an easy / store cupboard fake marinade or sauce I could do myself in the future???

Finally wallowing in another hot hot bath after the boiler died last week. Thank God we've saved on holiday / eating out costs - but what a depressing thing to spend it on!

TheHoover · 19/05/2021 19:09

fusion I swear by garlic salt, smoked paprika and olive oil.

Great NSV zigg zagg. Happy to rise to the challenge however I need a private practice arena as my garden is waaay too overlooked

nowlook · 19/05/2021 19:15

I'll reprise my forward roll from primary school, but that's all you're getting.

Will have St John's Ambulance on standby.

ZiggZagg · 19/05/2021 19:56

I am waiting until I feel how it's affected my body first Grin I'm sure there will be a few aches and pains in the morning!!

MrsKoala · 19/05/2021 20:00

I’ve never ever been able to do a cartwheel. I’ve always been so jealous of people doing them. My upper body strength is terrible, especially considering how muscular and broad my shoulders look. Everyone thinks I must be a lifter. I’m good at rowing and dead lifts tho, but I think that must be legs doing all the work. I suspect 2 muscle groups do the lions share while the rest lounge about eating scampi 😂

⭐️ For @ZiggZagg

FinallyHere · 19/05/2021 20:19

forward roll from primary

@nowlook oh how I loved gymnastics as a child. Then puberty hit and I just couldn't fit my top half into a leotard.

Shall perhaps try a forward roll in private later today.

I'm no sure I missed posting yesterday, the wheels on the low carb bus are still going round and round ok.

Today all.the.water
Lunch Caesar salad with FLGsalad, prawns and bacon bits
Supper I have no idea yet. It's really odd to not be all that hungry even though I could have a meal.

Riverford delivery reinstated for tomorrow for fresh rhubarb. I was so impressed by myself eating it poached and unsugared, just like the vegetable it really is.

I've also ordered some raw flaxseed crackers at 4g per 100g. Might be fun but I really suspect they will weigh heavy so that you don't get many for the 4g

I've been so interested in the talk about maintenance hat tip @StuntNun It's a long way off for me but interesting anyway. I've reached target before but carb creep has got to me both times. Interesting to think maintenance might look like one item a week (rather than several per day as I did).

I'm measuring rather than weighing and have a long way to go anyway but looking even at BMI it looks as if I have 5-10 LG's more than I thought to go Jikes.

Yesterday nope honestly can't remember. Shall start taking a photo of each plate before I start eating just so I remember.

FinallyHere · 19/05/2021 20:21

Oh yesterday was FTG salad V with bacon bits for lunch and with bacon wrapped cocktail sausages with feta for supper

venusandmars · 19/05/2021 20:29

@FusionChefGeoff @ZiggZagg a cartwheel challenge??!!! What kind of mad world have I engaged with? Or does following bootcamp just make these things happen? Favourite joke: man writes to Tampax, says I've been using your product for six months and I still can't run, swim or play tennis...

Anyway I can just about lay on the ground and muster up a snow angel, no way am I doing cartwheels and showing my knickers

venusandmars · 19/05/2021 20:45

Thank you, thank you to everyone who replied with ideas for the 'canned' sailing meal. I spent a good 20 minutes in the supermarket today, in aisles that I don't usually frequent. I poured over tinned veg (still don't quite understand how tinned mushrooms would work Confused ) and tinned curries and pre-cooked rice rice/lentils, rice/beans and I explored the carb contents of them of them all. So I think I'm going to go with....

Corn Beef Hash. 0 carbs in the corned beef, fried onion, tinned new potatoes, Worcestershire sauce, garlic. (that's in pan no.1). In pan no.2 will be tinned ratatouille 4.3g carbs per 100g), with extra green beans, and maybe some chopped chorizo. I can pick around all of that so I'm eating the corned beef and veg and avoiding the majority of the potatoes. And enjoying those potatoes I do have to eat.

And now I'll try and shut up about the bloody sailing holiday.

Except to say that @BIWI it's not really very energetic, it's mostly sitting around shivering It is difficult to reach 10K steps on the combo of the deck of a small boat and an island that is 1 mile long Grin

venusandmars · 19/05/2021 20:51

And I just want to say how much I love being on these threads, finding people who make soup, and don't have cup-a-soup. people who (I imagine) drink coffee that isn't instant.

Such a joy to find a community where I can indulge my love of food and cooking; where I'm inspired by other people's recipes, menus, photos; where all the other roundabout topics get discussed and not ignored.

thank you, I love you all
everyone, even those I've not met

MrsKoala · 19/05/2021 21:55

Come on, @venusandmars I’m sure you can do bum squats on the deck while sailing and knocking up tinned gourmet food! I have fond memories of tinned ratatouille in the 80s. My mum did a fried pork and garlic dish which she served with really crispy sautéed potatoes and tinned ratatouille. I’m sure your meal will be equally brilliant.

cheeseisthebest · 19/05/2021 22:03

Flowers venusandmars that's lovely x

prettybird · 19/05/2021 22:07

Thanks venus

....and one day we will meet Smile

prettybird · 19/05/2021 22:13

In good news, ds (20) has managed to get himself vaccinated up in Aberdeen. His MP (who fortunately he follows) retweeted an NHS Grampian tweet saying that vaccines were available for people 18+ at a hub 30 minutes walk away, so ds and his flat mate went along and queued in the rain for an hour and a half.

Ironically, he's ended up getting his vaccine sooner than his old school friends back down here in skanky Glasgow, where everyone over 18 in the local postcodes are being formally invited to be vaccinated and their appointments aren't for a few days Shock

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 19/05/2021 22:19

@ditavonteesed

Gratuitous puppa pic
Have not caught up yet, but just had to squeeeeee. Gorgeous pups tee, thank you for sharing!
OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 19/05/2021 22:21

Er... pic 😂 how the hell autocorrect?

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 19/05/2021 22:38

@BIWI belated Merry Christmas, we’re hoping to do the same 🤶🏻

Definitely making notes, I’m so behind! Probably be tomorrow now, but WILL catch up with you all (need a determined emoji)

In the meantime, KOKO everyone. And water, water, water. And as BIWI told me on a past thread, no, the soda water in the occasional gin does NOT count not guilty BIWI

Honest

FusionChefGeoff · 19/05/2021 22:57

@venusandmars a snow angel sounds like an excellent 'entry level' for the challenge so well done, you're in!!

I also love that menu and am totally stealing it for when we camp this year. No doubt DC will prod and poke and refuse but hey, I've got to try right!!

Good news - my mouth was indeed lonely again tonight but I resisted all but 2 halves of strawberry (all cut up and just sitting in a bowl waiting for DC - 2 hard to resist) which is a big improvement.

So @Biwi or other veterans - if I know it's not hunger and when I'm acknowledging it's pointless snacking - yet I am too weak to ignore altogether - what is best?? Considering I'm nearly at goal weight... Low cal but higher carb eg a few strawberries, low carb but higher fat and cals eg cheese or olives, low carb but processed eg deli meats....

The obvious low carb low cal answer really doesn't appeal as I don't usually fancy nibbling on celery / cucumber / raw green beans

prettybird · 19/05/2021 23:13

What would satisfy you the most? That's what will work the best.

A spoonful of clotted cream with a raspberry or strawberry or two? I like to keep some frozen raspberries, as if they're crumbled, they seem to go further with a spoonful of clotted cream. Guess what is my preference Wink

Bestbees · 20/05/2021 07:13

@venusandmars that meal sounds great. Will try to remember that for camping in the summer.

Loving the cartwell challenge! I am sure I can still do one. I can do a head stand too

Had my book group last night, and ate a fair bit of cheese and celery, but no booze or crisps which is a win!
Plan
L salad with kohlrabi remoulade and gruyere
D beef stir fry with a fried egg
Mim run or yoga weather dependent.

Stokey · 20/05/2021 08:41

Wow cartwheeling sounds amazing, not sure my dodgy shoulder would manage.
What book did you read for book club @Bestbees? I had mine on Tuesday and stuck to olives & cheese. We did Klara & The Sun which I'd recommend.

I have a question. What does NSV stand for - ignorant newbie!

Also the SLC bread - do you make your own or can you buy it? If buying it, can someone recommend me a brand please?

I'm in the doldrums of week 4, I think. Still feeling pre-menstrual but not sure if my period is going to come or not after second vax on Saturday. I've also got a cold and my ears are blocked which I'm hoping doesn't trigger my Menieres. Normally I'd comfort eat but am trying to be good, although did indulge in some Montezuma dark chocolate buttons last night.

B: Greek yoghurt with chia seeds & raspberries
L: salad with tomatoes & burrata
D: prawn stir fry

Bestbees · 20/05/2021 08:49

@Stokey we read hamnet which I loved. I have listened to Klara and also enjoyed that. Well done for avoiding eating through the feeling rough!

nowlook · 20/05/2021 09:20

@Stokey NSV is a non-scale victory (better skin, looser clothes etc).

The SLC bread comes from...SLC! Seriously Low Carb Bread here you go!

nowlook · 20/05/2021 09:22

On the subject of gymnastics challenges which, for the avoidance of doubt, I am not doing last summer, I tried to bounce on my arse on the trampoline and return to a standing position. Nope. Absolutely not in a million years.
