Morning all.

[[Here's the Spreadsheet as always

I hope everyone had a good week, and that any Mother's Day treats haven't messed things up too much Grin

So we enter our final two weeks. Still time to shift a couple of those pesky pounds - especially if you keep focused and stay strict. And a reminder, channelling my inner Shag, WATER, WATER, WATER!

Morning!

Feeling good today and looking forward to my mega run tomorrow. @BIWI and @Jollyholibobs do you think I'll be ok to try it without gels? Psychologically I think I'll have to have something to eat before I set off.

So I've got a lovely online yoga session this morning then hoping to get my tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs and first lettuces sown.

DH is out on a mega bike ride (sorry, cough cough super secret hobby) so I'll be doing a slap up fry up as a late lunch - trying to keep mine small so 1 sausage, 1 bacon, 2 eggs with spinach, mushrooms, couple of roasted cherry toms.

Dinner is the most exciting meal in the world at the moment as I have my first SLC bread and am planning on a toastie!!!!!!! With celery and cucumber on the side.

FusionChefGeoff · 20/03/2021 08:53

Ooh forgot to ask for a slow cooker BBQ ribs recipe if anyone's got one?

DH is doing dinner tomorrow and is a very unconfident cook but is very good at following a recipe. So unless I provide him with a BC friendly version I'm worried I'll get a very very sugary sauce....

StuntNun · 20/03/2021 09:06

Fusion I use this barbecue sauce adapted from Mark's Daily Apple (the original called for some ingredients difficult to obtain in the UK such as liquid smoke.) It keeps well in the fridge if it makes more than you need. It's nice on chicken wings as well although I usually mix it half and half with Frank's Hot Sauce for chicken wings to make them spicy.

Week 9 - Low Carb Bootcamp - only 2 weeks to go ...
prettybird · 20/03/2021 09:14

@FusionChefGeoff - it's a long time since I ran those sort of distances but "back then" gels weren't a thing and I survived! Grin

My pb for a half (in my late 20s so a looooong time ago Blush) was 1 hour 40 minutes. I've run 3 marathons (one under 4 hours), and didn't take gels, even though I wasn't consciously low carbing back then. I do remember protein loading and then carb loading in the days before my fastest marathon though (which was also the only one I trained properly for Wink)

Just make sure to keep well hydrated during your run.

I got back up to c6 miles running last year before I hurt my back and stopped again really must get my act back together and found it no problem to do fasted, let alone a suitable time after a HFLC meal.

Ninkanink · 20/03/2021 09:19

I miss running Sad

cheeseisthebest · 20/03/2021 09:26

I miss running too. I must make an appointment with a podiatrist with a view to being able to run again.
Also thank you everyone for puppy and dog advice.
I'm not doing very well at the moment, fallen down a chocolate hole past few days Blush but saying that here to be accountable! Just got period so might explain. Think my low carb bread might arrive today and I've ordered the hot cross buns too.

Ninkanink · 20/03/2021 09:37

I’ll never run again - my plantar fasciitis flares up again immediately and I just can’t let it get as bad as it used to be...

venusandmars · 20/03/2021 09:43

FusionChef you could use smoked paprika in stunt's recipe for smokier flavour...

Brunch - coffee with cream, protein rye bread with cream cheese and smoked salmon, with salad
D - curry that I didn't make yesterday, a sort of massaman style but with turnip instead of potato... fingers crossed that works

Jollyholibobs · 20/03/2021 09:56

@FusionChefGeoff personally I would not want to mess around with gels having got used to low carbing. You may not do your fastest time but it’s a training run and so long as you stay hydrated you should go the distance and build endurance. The whole gels thing seems to be a ‘science’ promoted by companies that sell gels. And @prettybird bird did some great times without gels. I have just bought a hydration vest for my long runs. Love it as I was previously rationing my water from a belt with two diddy bottles on it. I do not know how I managed when I marathon trained a few years ago and wonder if this WOE has made me more conscious of thirst.

@cheeseisthebest I have just pulled myself out of a carby hole. Had a much better day yesterday food wise and will get out for a run today. Let me give you a virtual hand up out of your chocolate hole and some mutual accountability. Have a good day.

B black coffee
L something to use up some opened feta? Feta omelette maybe with spinach.
D salmon in sesame crust with stir fried veg with 5 spice and sesame oil. Maybe some noodles for DH. Raspberries and cream.

@LongtimelurkerL I cook for me and DH and he does not necessarily want low carb every meal. When I do rice for him I cook a few portions. Cool it quickly by spreading it out then freeze individual portions which I can reheat in the microwave to add to his meals. You do need to be careful to cool quickly and reheat well as there can be food hygiene issues with rice but it makes an easy add on for his meal which might work for your DD. Generally he has what I have plus pasta or rice and less veg or if he’s hungry as much veg.

Jollyholibobs · 20/03/2021 10:00

@Ninkanink I can sympathise with the PF so frustrating. Thankfully mine has stopped recurring after a long rest period.

Ninkanink · 20/03/2021 10:02

I’ve rested for about five years now... 😆 but I had chronic severe PF for at least 6 years prior, so unfortunately it’s completely entrenched.

StuntNun · 20/03/2021 10:15

Jollyholibobs this saladd* is a good use for feta.

Plantar fasciitis is awful Ninkanink. I had it consecutively in one foot after another so it was years of hardly being able to walk anywhere. It seems to have cleared up now but I'm very cautious about footwear to try and stop it coming back.

Jollyholibobs · 20/03/2021 10:21

@StuntNun thanks looks delicious and I have all the ingredients already.

prettybird · 20/03/2021 10:26

I have a tendency to get Achilles tendinitis in my right foot (which I've also sprained multiple times Sad) so am now very good about stretching it (and other muscles now that I'm older Wink) after a run Grin unlike when I was a bright eyed and busy tailed youngster Blush

A physio I saw once about it said that there was scarring on it, so I also massage it sometimes, when I remember

LongtimelurkerL · 20/03/2021 10:30

Thanks @Jollyholibobs that’s helpful!

Just weighed and am amazed!! Started last Saturday at 174 and just weighed at 169.6 I can’t remember the last time I was below 170

I hate running - can’t believe so many people enjoy itHmm more of a swimmer but haven’t been able to do that for ages obviously

Oneborneverydecade · 20/03/2021 10:31

I had PF to in both feet over the course of two summers. I put it down to Saltwater sandals which have no foot bed. Sounds like I'm lucky it wasn't worse.

Week 3 of C25K completed and now I can run for 3 mins I feel entitled to join in the chat @Jollyholibobs and @FusionChefGeoff Grin Though honestly having watched my DH run a couple of marathons I have no ambition beyond 5k. I think you guys are fantastic

ouchmyfeet · 20/03/2021 11:31

Just had my first successful attempt at low carb baking (after 2 unsuccessful ones).

Low carb coffee cupcakes adapted from this recipe:

www.carbmanager.com/recipe/ug:ef2c801b-10f2-5309-32a4-4987fdfc60d4/keto-coffee-and-walnut-cake/

I'll post what I did on the recipe thread later.

I only made 6 cupcakes. I've eaten one, saved one for later and put the rest in the freezer. Coffee cake is one of my absolute favourites and this is a satisfactory substitute.

ouchmyfeet · 20/03/2021 11:32

Well done to all the runners, I could never run, even when I was a teenager. Can't say I understand the appeal of it but it's very impressive nonetheless!

FusionChefGeoff · 20/03/2021 11:54

Thanks @Jollyholibobs and @prettybird exactly it is only a training run so time isn't important. Will check includes a couple of spots where I can refill water if needed. Thank you!

@StuntNun that's perfect thank you so much. Have you done that one in a slow cooker before? Wondering if I need to make any adaptations or just get DH to make and chuck in?

prettybird · 20/03/2021 11:58

I used to run loops on my longer training runs so that I could stop back in the house and drink a big glass of water, as I hated running with a water bottle (and I thought that the wee hand ones were too small to be any use). So a race where there were water stations was a positive luxury Grin

RagzReturnsRebooted · 20/03/2021 12:01

Attempting the Spanakopita, I don't think 8 drained the spinach enough as its crispy on top and a soggy mess on the bottom... I looked perfect until I tried to pick it up! Have flipped it over but it came apart, bodged it back together and stuck it back in for 5 mins. It will probably be edible but certainly not pretty!

RagzReturnsRebooted · 20/03/2021 12:01

I not 8 Hmm

cheeseisthebest · 20/03/2021 12:34

So long since I ran I cant remember what I used to do about water. Furthest I've ever did was a 10k in 76 minutes, not very fast but I was so proud of myself.
Would love to try again.

Mimosa1 · 20/03/2021 12:43

Very impressed with all the runners!

I'm wearing jeans for the first time in a year today and yikes, I'd forgotten how uncomfortable they are!

B - SLC roll w butter
L - fried egg on a bed of cheesy leeks
D - planning to have a Cook chicken Panang curry with courgettes

Cook has been an absolute godsend these past few weeks!
