Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp - time to get rid of all the Valentine's treats!

I rather suspect that a lot of us have been so far off the wagon this weekend that it's disappeared over the far horizon!

having to post on the spreadsheet may sober us all up, in more ways than one!

I hope any cheats were enjoyable. There's nothing worse than deciding to cheat and then not liking it.

But from now, it's time to buckle down and get back into the swing of things. If you did cheat, please don't complain that the scales aren't being kind to you. It's an inevitable consequence.

So let's focus on a really strict week, recognising that this is the end of our first half of Bootcamp.

Good luck to us all Flowers

Well this is now officially my favourite way to eat turnip!

Oooh, enticing swede dauphinois. Thank you, ouchmyfeet. I will commit to trying it this week!

cheeseisthebest · 16/02/2021 22:20

Sorry to hear that venusandmars, hope your DC is ok x

ShagMeRiggins · 16/02/2021 22:25

Ouchmyfeet/ fajita bowls, taco bowls, etc, give me the flavour blast I need.

Really we can substitute a good lettuce for any wrap and just enjoy the wonders of cheese, sour cream, Mexican spiced (or other cuisine and spices), yoghurt, cheese, etc.

It becomes very normal to eat these meals with a spoon or lettuce. And it’s always delicious!

Lyrata · 16/02/2021 22:28

I know @venusandmars! This happens every time I buy them. Amazon do a massive multipack of 15 for £8-9 and I imagine I might snack on one a day for a few weeks. Always I eat them all in a few days and I learn my lesson for a year or two.

I’m sorry your DC is struggling :(

ouchmyfeet · 16/02/2021 22:39

Pie looks awesome BIWI.

Celeriac available at my local Tesco @LittleMy77 . Can't find leeks at the moment though Sad

Jollyholibobs · 16/02/2021 22:46

@ChristMyArse sorry you are having Sita difficult time. Hope you sleep well. Flowers

Jollyholibobs · 16/02/2021 22:48

@VeryLittleOwl your sheep are very pretty. Great photo.

1stMrsF · 16/02/2021 22:54

@ListenLinda well done on that brilliant NSV. I haven't worn my watch for ages because of being home - I will try tomorrow...

@VeryLittleOwl I love that picture - the girls look so sweet!

I also love a sleepy tea to help with sleep this one is my fave

I have found and tested out my challenge recipe tonight. Will post it tomorrow when I've got time for the details. All agreed it was yummy.

Did very little all day until 5pm then managed to do yoga, bake muffins (for DTD2's walk with a school friend tomorrow), make pancakes for the DC tea and then make dinner for grownups (several nights a week we eat with my mum and my sister who live in spitting distance and with whom we've combined households). So it felt like a busy evening!

Have also reached my goal of drinking all the water today. I'm focusing on that this week. KOKO all, we are doing a great job!

Oneborneverydecade · 16/02/2021 22:58

The sheep are gorgeous but I am stunned by that view @VeryLittleOwl I want to book a holiday in the Highlands now... what's the wifi like for teen DS? Wink

CaptainOmelette · 17/02/2021 06:13

Morning all. I keep waking up with a headache, I don’t know if it’s life-stress related, lack-of-sleep related or food related but have had to take painkillers for days now. So, upping electrolytes and looking at magnesium etc supplements as am on this way of eating long term now.
Today’s food:
L - egg mayonnaise & salad
D - garlic and pepper crusted roasted pork chop with broccoli and roast shallot.

Dreamqueen · 17/02/2021 06:36

Where will I finf the recipe for the swede dauphinoise please?

Thank you.

MarmaladeTeepee · 17/02/2021 07:02

@VeryLittleOwl that picture! Made me feel v warm and fuzzy.

@ouchmyfeet I find frozen leeks are good.

We're v unsophisticated up here and I can't find a celeriac anywhere. Lidl, Aldi and Tescos don't stock them due to lack of demand and Asda only occasionally have them, so I still haven't had dirty fries. I'm definitely adding swede dauphinoise to my list though as there's plenty of those knocking around.

ouchmyfeet · 17/02/2021 07:08

Thanks @MarmaladeTeepee can't get frozen ones either! Hopefully next week.

@Dreamqueen I posted the recipe for the dauphinoise upthread but I'll add it to the recipe thread too

Can I ask if anyone is struggling with odour? I'm still trying to get my electrolyte balance right as I'm constantly dry mouthed despite drinking 4.5-5 litres per day. So my mouth doesn't feel great, but I can't personally smell anything bad. My 8 year old on the other hand keeps asking my why I smell like cabbages ConfusedSad. Really hoping this is a side effect that will fade in time, and a bit concerned that I can't smell it myself! It's making me paranoid.

StuntNun · 17/02/2021 07:16

Ouchmyfeet some people have a temporary change in body odour that's probably caused by being in ketosis. So you could increase your carb intake to throw you out of ketosis or you can just wait it out. As you become fat-adapted your body will use the ketones more efficiently rather than removing them in your breath, sweat and urine.

ouchmyfeet · 17/02/2021 07:21

Thanks StuntNun, really hope it's temporary. I don't really want to increase carbs as I'm enjoying my food and it's working for me.

At least I have someone who will tell me honestly when I smell!

ListenLinda · 17/02/2021 07:48

@ouchmyfeet yes! I wondered if it was just me! Since starting i’ve been struggling with it, despite washing with very thoroughly every day, i’d have to multiple times. DH even commented once Blush it seems to of calmed down last week or so despite not doing anything different.

ListenLinda · 17/02/2021 07:49

Soap & hot water* must start proof reading properly Blush

Depends where you are - some of the larger villages do have fibre. I don't and get about 4MB, some houses in my village get less than 1MB. 4G is pretty good if you're on EE (we're going to have a go at 4GEE broadband when our contract runs out, should quadruple our speed!), otherwise mobile signal is very patchy.

Nicola Sturgeon is not making encouraging noises about Scottish summer holidays at the moment, so if you do book something make sure the terms and conditions allow for a full refund if the government doesn't let you travel. But summer is booking up fast, I think I've got about two weeks left over my two cottages and that's only because the agency's pricing algorithm has gone a bit bonkers and made them a ridiculous price.

Jollyholibobs · 17/02/2021 07:52

Bad day yesterday. Struggling with cystitis (regular problem post menopause) and took myself back to bed despite having masses of work to do. Ended up feeling sorry for myself and overeating big time including carby stuff I would never normally look at. I must just put it behind me and get back to normal today. Hoping the cystitis has subsided a bit too. Have a lot of work to catch up.

I think I remember that Owl has holiday accommodation too. I imagine there's a special increased rate for bootcampers Grin
nowlook · 17/02/2021 07:56

X-post @VeryLittleOwl
Great news though on being nearly booked up!

Dreamqueen · 17/02/2021 07:59

Thank you Ouch. I'm going to make it tonight with lamb chops and kale.

Felt a bit blah! yesterday. In previous times I would have turned to carbs and alcohol for comfort but I had some greek youghurt & went to bed early instead.

ZiggZagg · 17/02/2021 08:50

Morning all, DH would love to live in a Scottish cottage surrounded by sheep! Whilst I wouldn't mind it as a holiday, I am a fully fledged city girl! Hopefully will be able to book something over the summer as I have family near Edinburgh and it would be nice to spend some time with them!

Anyway, I seem to have dropped the last 2lb overnight of my 5lb gain so am back where I was last week! KOKO AND ALL THE WATER!!

DH asked me last night why I smell like school dinners!
ouchmyfeet · 17/02/2021 09:08

@pelosi @ListenLinda

Glad it's not just me Wink

Do you think it's bad breath or is it more general body odour? I'm really concerned that I can't smell it myself!
