Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - week 9/the last fortnight

Evening/morning all!

A very late/early start for me (it's become a weekly 'thing' playing Trivial Pursuit with DH and DS1, which goes on, and on, and on ...)

So as I'm only just going to bed, wanted to start the thread now, so it's ready for all you eager beavers to declare your losses. From what I've read so far, there are some really good results, which is fantastic.

here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to declare all.

We have two weeks to go before we get to the end of this Bootcamp, which will take us right into Christmas week. I know that already people have been sharing their strategies for dealing with Christmas, and I encourage you all to have a really hard think about this. It's so easy to let everything go 'because it's Christmas' - but I'd really counsel you to seriously consider what your plan is going to be. I doubt that anyone is going to stick to low carb throughout the festive period, and that's not a problem - but please think about when/how you're going to go 'off piste'.

There will be another Bootcamp starting in January (probably mid month), but just think what a shame it would be, to be starting that Bootcamp having regained a lot of the weight that you've worked so hard to lose in this Bootcamp!

That method really works Spooks as so many poor food choices are spur of the moment. My coaching clients had to take a photo of everything they eat through the app and it's actually amazing how in that brief pause to take your phone out and take a photo you decide you don't want to eat it after all.

VeryLittleOwl · 11/12/2020 10:52

Grin Grin Grin

Renpho users, does the app calculate your BMI differently to everywhere else? Every online calculator I've found tells me that at 5'5", 10st 10lbs is a 25 BMI (or 10st 10.2lbs according to Libra this morning - see happy screenshot!). Renpho reckons I still have a BMI of 25.3 and need to get down to 10st 8.2lbs to get to 25.

It’d better bloody not VeryLittleOwl, I am 5’5” and a Renpho owner too! I know there’s a useful guide somewhere online that explains how they do their calculations as I looked up how they calculated metabolic age (when I was appalled with what I had come out as). I just googled for it and it came up.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 11/12/2020 11:24

Morning. I've had a very successful few days, down another 3lbs since weigh in on Monday.

But I'm baffled (though chuffed) - what am I doing right???

I virtually stalled since September, it's taken 3 months to lose 5lbs. Then when I finally hit my goal weight and it was my birthday I started to relax. The weight jumped back on alarmingly fast so I started back on lchf properly about 10 days ago. In those 10 days I've lost 9lbs!

I've not been doing anything differently from September and October!

Could 10 days eating more carbs and then stopping again have been a kickstart??

Baffled.

ThinkAbout I think sometimes your body is ready to let go of weight, sometimes it isn't. Also, as with exercise, sometimes changing things up gets you past a plateau. I wouldn't recommend a carb fest as a way of achieving that because (a) it would happen anyway given time: and (b) you run this risk of staying off the wagon.

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 11/12/2020 17:52

VeryLittleOwl Renpho scales seem fine to me - just compared their stats to a couple of sites

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 11/12/2020 17:54

@BurningGubbins I got a bloody awful metabolic age too - what’s with that? I don’t think it’s gone down any despite losing around 3 stone...

www.getthegloss.com/article/fast-800-diet-food-at-christmas-dr-michal-mosley-s-healthy-tips-and-recipes

An interesting article from Dr MM about avoiding overeating at Christmas. It repeats a lot of @stuntnun 's advice

@NotwatchingSpooks I'm trying to follow that advice with spending too (as recommended by Martin Lewis)

I'm in Wales this weekend for my birthday. We stopped in a Cobham services for Leon after it was mentioned up thread. The chicken plant box is

BurningGubbins · 11/12/2020 19:58

Ifeelmuchlessfat I was 7 years older according to the scales in May, and have now managed to bring that down to 2 years, and given that it’s my birthday next month it’s really 1 year...

I am persevering with the yoga and can see some progress. I’m hoping that building my muscles a bit will shave that year off.

Takingontheundead · 11/12/2020 20:19

I've dropped one metabolic year for 3 st 4 lb lost
... still 6 years older than my actual age mind!

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 11/12/2020 20:50

Yes I’m five years off, just checked history and it’s gone down one after a 3 stone loss. I’m also doing yoga but clearly not enough Hmm

Midlifemission · 12/12/2020 10:17

Another Renpho user with a slightly depressing metabolic age - mine is 4 years above my age.

Next years goal definitely includes more fitness work so hopefully that will improve

Does anyone have issues with Renpho not providing all the data every
Time they weigh ?

ZiggaZiggArrgggghhhh · 12/12/2020 10:56

Does anyone have a really nice slow cooker recipe, I'm out all day today so just want something ready when I get home? If not, meaty based takeaway it will be Grin

Jdhshekr · 12/12/2020 13:44

I use the Boditrax machine at the gym to weigh myself and get other data and it says that my metabolic age is 15 years under my actual age and I have reduced it by 18 metabolic years since I started LCHF in August. Now wondering if it is lying to me and if the renpho scales would be less kind to me.

itsmeagainagain · 12/12/2020 14:08

Just going through mcDonalds drive thru with the fam..... give me strength!!!!!!

Iamnotacerealkiller · 12/12/2020 15:09

So have lost another lb since monday so now teetering on 170lb after 17lb loss this bootcamp. Im looking a little like a deflated balloon at the moment, thighs in particular are a wibbly (I was nearly 16st after last pregnancy so it been more then 17lb overall) Has anyone got any advice about firming up? would building up muscle help? will the wibbliness go over time/if i lose more fat? im nearly 34.

Oneborneverydecade · 12/12/2020 17:17

@iamnotacerealkiller our starting weights and current weights are almost exactly the same. I think @StuntNun said that extended fasts can help tighten skin but that might be quite drastic? I don't think I have it in me
Did you read the recent post on AIBU about a woman who had lost 6st (?) and felt she looked like a wrinkly bald cat. It was funny

StuntNun · 12/12/2020 17:35

@Iamnotacerealkiller it takes longer for the skin to shrink back into place when you lose weight so it will gradually improve over the next six months. My preferred method for tightening up that soft look after weight loss is Jillian Michaels' 30-Day Shred. It will tone up your arms, legs, tummy and bum. Any similar plan that includes both bodyweight and aerobic exercises will work. If after that you want to develop a really good figure then free weights are the best way. The extended fasting that Oneborn mentioned is more for people that have lost a lot of weight and have loose skin. That type of loose skin is paper thin and all but impossible to get rid of without surgery. Most people will have loose skin with a layer of subcutaneous fat underneath it so it's works well to tone the muscle to support the skin.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 12/12/2020 18:07

Ah thanks both. Difficult to find time for exercise with the babies. Never thought I could feel so busy while achieving so little!

@Oneborneverydecade

How tall are You? I'm 5.7 so my dream goal weight is 147 but realistically anything under 160 is healthy for me.

Oneborneverydecade · 12/12/2020 19:36

I'm 5'10" and like you dream of being 147lb. I did get down to 143lb 11 years ago but I've had 2 children since then. I'd be happy with 154lb.

If you have Amazon TV check out FIIT, it's a huge selection of exercise classes - cardio, strength and balance that you can do whenever suits you. Some are 10 mins long. I'm not sure if any meet the Jillian Michael's criteria though 🤔

prettybird · 12/12/2020 20:09

I do the Shred/Ripped 4 days a week (5th day is Pilates and I take the weekend off). A week on each level and then once I've finished it, start the other DVD.

VeryLittleOwl · 12/12/2020 20:47

Thanks for the Renpho advice, I wonder if I've mistyped my height? I've taken a year off my metabolic age so far, but I'm still three years over my actual age.

Takingontheundead · 12/12/2020 20:55

If i squat with a kettle bell 30 x a day, 4/5days pw, is that 'better than nothing'? Or next to pointless?

I literally don't have time to exercise beyond the dog walk, but my thighs and arms need something.

Hopeislost · 12/12/2020 21:54

Taking It's better than nothing, yes! If you don't have time outside of the dog walk, can you make the dog walk harder? You could wear a weighted vest (or backpack), walk or run faster, or build in some bodyweight exercises (eg squats, lunges, push-ups) into the walk?

StuntNun · 12/12/2020 22:19

Taking a kettlebell is excellent for exercise. Don't just do squats though, do swings and other exercises. Check out Bob Harper's kettlebell workouts on YouTube.
