Well done for sticking with us for four weeks! You are fat-adapted now and getting the full health benefits of this way of eating. Add your weight to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and let's see how everyone has done. Don't forget that it's typical for weight loss to pause at some point in weeks 3-5 but so long as you are following the rules you are still losing fat!

I know a few of you have been missing meals, whether by accident or design, so I'd like to start talking about intermittent fasting this week if anyone is interested? It's completely optional so don't feel that you should fast if you don't want to. I still think it's worth finding out more about intermittent fasting, how it works, when and why you might want to introduce it, and what it feels like to fast... spoiler alert it doesn't involve feeling hungry!

Nerdy stuff I have been looking at and listening to... This talk on fasting by Dr. Jason Fung is fascinating. Quite a lot of stats but the interesting bits are when he talks about what happens with "calories in/calories out" and the Ear Less, Move More messages and then the follow up data from America's biggest loser - this stuff is all quite near the beginning of you can't do the full 40 mins. Really made some pennies drop for me on why I could never lose weight or always regained.
Tim Noakes on the same channel.

Almahart · 07/02/2020 17:07

@TheClitterati I got it from the recipe thread. Add a fried egg for extra ooomph Wink

ShagMeRiggins · 07/02/2020 17:10

MrsSiuthgate thank you for sharing. I’m wondering if a bit of Parmesan on top would make me even happier. Hmmm...

I had celeriac corned beef hash after my swim. Best BC stodge I have found

Gorgeous, Athelstane. Corned beef (yes, processed) is one of my top five breakfasts when hashed. Bought a massive celeriac at farm shop this afternoon to make this for brunchfast tomorrow as I’m working tonight in a jewellery show and won’t have a proper meal before (so I’ll call it IF). Sooooo looking forward to to it.

waspfig · 07/02/2020 18:39

Ooooo I'm pleased to hear about the hash recipe as I did food shop this morning and came home with corned beef and 3, yes 3, celeriacs. Whats the plural of celeriac?! I am a total convert and they cost pennies in Aldi.

I'm still the same again on the scales! No loss since wk 2 which is really annoying. I do feel smaller in my clothes though. Lots of falling down trouser moments, luckily only at home but I did nearly give the postman an eyeful this morning Blush

And best of all, I am always satisfied after a meal and have totally lost the highs and lows of carby eating.

Today's food
B ham (last of the Xmas ham Sad)and avocado
L sausage asparagus and spinach
D homemade lamb donner kebab with lettuce cups (DH having pitta), pickled beetroot, feta and mint yoghurt
2 glasses dry white wine ( my first alcohol of the year!!)

waspfig · 07/02/2020 19:22

Homemade lamb donner kebab are a hit!

BrassicaBabe · 07/02/2020 19:53

I love home made donner!!

Doilooklikeatourist · 07/02/2020 20:05

I’m wondering if I could make a chicken thighs , celariac hash ( as I don’t eat red meat ) will have a go

Made a very nice pork mince with courgettes and mushrooms for dinner I found ( in Tesco ) a jar of Turkish pepper paste ( which does seem very full of red peppers , but a dessert spoon between 3 works well ) and adds a bit of warmth and flavour to the meal

Had a Brie and bacon quiche for lunch ( I left the pastry case ) and am going to have a go at making one as a frittata over the weekend ( whilst stuck at home because of the storm)

Re the chat about menopause, I’m 59 , and didn't have periods for a long time as I had 2 mirena coils which worked like a dream , so didn’t really know when it hit , but Oh My !
The night sweats , waking in a little pool of my own sweat on the sheets , even my hair smelt . I’ve always been a cold body , so having warm feet and hands was really upsetting for me

Luckily it’s over now and I’m back to my old cold self

Throws blanket over knee and chucks another log in the stove

BrassicaBabe · 07/02/2020 20:41

Thanks for the vids Discontented. I'll def check those out. Tim Noakes wrote the book on LC exercise that I've got and struggled to read. (It's basically a text book and my attention span just isn't up to it). He's also featured in the Netflix Magic Pill which is good.

prettybird · 07/02/2020 21:53

Roast chicken tonight in celebration of ds coming down for tomorrow's rugby game (I get to take him as my dad isn't back from SA and dh doesn't like the referee). Ds then complained because "Friday night is Lidl curries night" Hmm

Anyway, the meal was lovely: I had lovely roast chicken (with crispy skin Wink) plus buttery leeks and Brussels microwaved in butter (while dh and ds had the chicken with roast in olive oil Wink potatoes and the leeks), followed by strawberries and cream (me), strawberries, ice cream and Maltesers (ds) and ice cream & Maltetesers (dh) for dessert.

We also had it at a candle lit table in the dining room so not on our laps Wink - so we were able to have in-depth discussions about the merits of Bernie Saunders versus Mayor Pete in the Democratic nomination process, Monty Python and the People's Front for Judaea, Saracens various misdemeanours and the Scotland rugby coaching set up and the team selection.....

Harveywoo · 07/02/2020 22:07

Auto cucumber is priceless!

Oh @Notwatchingtvtoday Flowers

What a tiring week, sooooo relieved it’s Friday!
B: garlic mushroom mozarella mini omelette L: salmon-cream cheese coleslaw salad
D: coconut milk curried chicken and veg on shredded cabbage, blueberries with cinnamon cream
Not enough water!

venusandmars · 07/02/2020 22:08

Great candlelit dinner conversation prettybird

Re menopause. I've not had a tough time of it, and didn't need HRT, but the heat, the sweating, the flushing.. My God, I swear that at times I've been responsible for a fair proportion of global warming oops there goes another iceberg

HouseTornado · 08/02/2020 06:32

Morning everyone!

I've had a few peri meno symptoms (I'm 47) but since stopping drinking completely they've gone. Or on hold!

Anyway...scales not moved yet this week so expecting to STS on Monday....am on my 3rd IF and planning on making this a daily habit. I feel better than I gave in a long time.

Today's foid:

B: None
L: Rocket and smoked tofu salad with parmesan and olive oil
D: FGLV and cold chicken and mayo

Water!

Mimosa1 · 08/02/2020 07:58

Morning everyone! Scales are looking positive on my end, I hope it holds for Monday! If it does, I shall finally have lost baby weight for dc 2 for the third time and my BMi will have shaded - just - into closer to overweight rather than obese, which I'm really pleased about. Frustratingly it's the place I was before the October bootcamp started but I just couldn't get my act together then.

Next mini goal: getting to under 75kg and the goal after that is losing the baby weight from dc 1 (although those goals don't feel so mini!) I'm feeling really positive so huge thanks @biwi @stuntnun @athelstane and everyone who runs and posts in bootcamp.

I still can't find any celeriac locally, but I've got a load of Brussels in (not frozen). Do those microwave as well with butter? Could anyone tell me for how long?

Thanks!

Notwatchingtvtoday · 08/02/2020 08:02

Thank you all for your kind words.

I’m out all day today on a training course, packed a salad and hope I don’t forget it.

I’ve gone up 1/2 lb but still less than Monday, also in some jeans that I have not been able to get into for ages.
B Greek yogurt
L salad with rolitos and cheese
Snack box of Graze nuts (there is a lot of talk of pastries and biscuits
D M&S curry, I will pick out the meat on cauliflower rice

prettybird · 08/02/2020 08:48

Mimosa - microwaved brussels are my addiction speciality Grin

Prepare lots of them (no need for crosses Wink), put in a small to medium sized bowl (depending on just how many you are doing), put a slab of butter on top of them and put a plate on top (easier than cling film). Microwave for 2 minutes, take out and shoogle

waspfig · 08/02/2020 08:51

Tricky food weekend for me this week.

Off to DM for family lunch today and apparently the plan is either fish and chips (in which case I'll just have fish, no batter, no chips) or pizza and salad. I've packed some cured meats which I can have with salad and avoid the pizza.

Tomorrow we are meeting a big group of friends at a garden centre/soft play. The food is decent but very carb heavy. I'm hoping to find a salad (and avoid the wood fired pizzas, jacket spuds, paninis etc) I think breakfast service will be finished as that would've been easier to navigate.

I feel like it's getting easier and easier to make the right choices.

Happy weekend everyone!

venusandmars · 08/02/2020 09:07

waspfig make sure you have something high fat before you go - eggs with butter, avocado, coffee with cream. Or snack on a few nuts / rollitos / pork scratchings about 30 minutes before lunch. This will leave you less hungry and therefore less likely to be tempted to eat pizza crust or chips.

B - herbal tea and lots of water
L - left over cauliflower curry with fried egg
D - courgetti with smoked sssalmon, cream, leeks, side or roasted broccoli and hazelnuts

BrassicaBabe · 08/02/2020 09:48

STS today. Going to eat the same as I did on Thursday to see if that replicates the 2lb shift I need to STS for this week overall.

L: HM coleslaw with no additive pork scratchings
D: chicken thighs and buttered cabbage

I'm getting pretty good on the water front. But tend to find that dips at the weekends.

Glittercandle · 08/02/2020 10:10

Went to a friends last night and didn’t have any of the pizza or wine in offer - feel like I’ve been rewarded as the scales have finally moved after a couple of weeks of minimal change.

CheddarGorgeous · 08/02/2020 10:20

I've also had a mid week weigh and have lost a pound. Really chuffed. Jeans are definitely more comfortable. Hoping for at least the same weight on the scales on Monday.

Happy weekend everyone Smile

waspfig · 08/02/2020 10:41

@venusandmars yes a big breakfast tomorrow is a good plan. Hopefully I can stay busy running around after the kids/catching up with friends and forget about eating much altogether.

I struggle with water at weekends too @BrassicaBabe even when I have my water bottle with me. I'm trying a new trick today, every time I pick up my phone I'm going to try and drink at the same time. Hiking that will boost the intake.

Teapotdespot · 08/02/2020 13:01

I haven’t checked in for a while because work has been absolutely insane for the last 2 weeks. I’ve been in back to back all day meetings in so many different parts of the country it got to the point where I genuinely had no idea if I was in London, Manchester, Newcastle, Cardiff or Edinburgh Blush I’ve seen nothing but the inside of boardrooms and carb fest meeting catering for a fortnight and it’s been HELL.

However.. Grin

I’ve STUCK TO IT! GrinGrinGrin

My weight stalled over the last couple of weeks and looked like a gain at one point and I got really really upset about it, but because I’d read @StuntNun and @BIWI mention about week 3/4 being notorious for stalling on the scales, I stuck at it and all of a sudden, the scales are moving again Grin

Here’s a sample of the batshit things I’ve had to do over the last 2 weeks in order to continue bootcamp eating:

Eat the middle of sausage rolls and leave the pastry

Eat the cheese or egg filling out of fancy sandwiches with a plastic fork I TOOK WITH ME. Blush

Take the fruit off a fruit skewer and only eat the melon, leaving the pineapple and grapes

Take the coated skin off KFC chicken and eat just the chicken and order salad as the side (batshit in itself)

Put butter in my coffee at a travel lodge breakfast in lieu of cream (wasn’t due to eat again for 12 hours) incurring extremely funny looks from the staff.

Have a pot of olives in my car drinks holder for road snacks

Ordered a coffee with cream at McDonald’s... they gave me a black coffee with whipped cream on top Grin

Actually cried last night when I got home and DH has cooked me proper belly pork Blush

Things I have learned:
Individually wrapped cheese snacks are on sale at most petrol stations.

You can order almost anything in restaurants with salad instead of chips, and There’s always a colleague who will have your chips for you if you don’t want them

It’s hard to eat in a Wetherspoons quickly on this WOE. This is not a bad thing.

I no longer feel hungry in the same way I used to, so I have to remember to eat which is a weird experience.

I seem to have broken my weight stall and the scales are moving again, taking me to a 15lb loss so far which, for someone with PCOS, is absolutely insane. I’ve never lost more than 1lb a week Grin

Wow, teapot, you are phenomenal!

That is some hardcore commitment.

We are going to be without a kitchen soon for a couple of weeks, and was panicking about staying on track - but if you can, I can!

Rayna37 · 08/02/2020 13:47

Really impressive Teapot! I'm going to a 50th party tonight and can only hope to channel your strength. Driving so no booze will help though.

Just sat getting my hair done while the grandparents negotiate the shops with DS and the buggy GrinIt's DH's exW's Birthday so naturally I want to look "smokin' hot" as Riggins would put it

Anyone struggling with WATER WATER WATER on a weekend (or generally) I really recommend the Waterlogged app, it's really helped me raise my game.

Had an amazing muddy parkrun this morning in my new trail shoes: 5th woman, first in my age group and best part of a minute quicker than last time I ran that course just after Christmas.

Bar of Lindt 90% in my handbag and the coffee here is good. I'm winning at Saturday aren't I!

BIWI · 08/02/2020 13:48

That's fantastic @Teapotdespot! Great results, but also phenomenal willpower and ingenuity Grin
