Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - which way will you go?

Morning all

Here's the spreadsheet

So a few mixed results so far. Hopefully there will be some more good ones on the spreadsheet!

I suspect that what a lot of you are coming to realise is that this isn't a way of eating that can allow you to cheat or even to take your eye off the ball.

In this initial phase, while we're aiming to become fat-adapted, it's really important that you keep your carbs as low as you can (within sensible limits - this is not a a zero carb diet - you should be eating enough veg and salad to get good nutrition, which will mean you're eating carbs)

I know that sometimes it's impossible. I'm in a situation where tonight I'm being cooked for, by people who have no idea I'm low carbing, and who haven't asked if there's anything I can/can't eat - so I'll just have to accept it. But whilst it's within your control, you really do need to stay strong.

Now.

This is the start of the infamous week 3 (and next week, week 4) - and it's very, very, VERY common for weight loss to stop - or sometimes even for people to gain slightly, even if they're following the rules.

So. You can decide to stay on Bootcamp if you want to, to help deal with this, or you could move onto Bootcamp Light, which means you can start to add some fruit, some nuts and seeds and some alcohol back into your diet.

The operative word is 'some'! All in moderation - and not at every meal, every day - because this will mean that you won't see the weight loss you want to.

There are three options:

  • stay on Bootcamp
  • move to Bootcamp Light
  • choose a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week, Bootcamp Light at the weekend

Whatever you choose, I hope that you have a good, positive and successful week. Flowers

Why eating fat doesn't make you fat

This is a really good article which explains how fat became the enemy. It also explains why a high carb diet is an issue.

(It goes on to talk about calories, which isn't an issue for us on the ten weeks of Bootcamp).

@kitemarked my dh is like that too. He says: "well I didn't know what to do with it.." ffs even putting some clingfilm over the pot and putting it in the fridge would be a start! It's not as if I'm someone who has colour-coded Tupperware, labelled and dated. Just do something with it.

I lost almost 2 stone last year - prompted by catastrophically high blood pressure. My bp dropped a little as I lost weight, but it is only low carb / high fat that has brought it right down, and kept it down, so I no longer take any medication. When people comment on my weight or my diet, I sometimes just tell them I didn't want my blood pressure to kill me. In the summer a sort of friend (who I hadn't seen for a while) had a barbeque. When I arrived she saw me and yelled across the garden: "Darling! You've lots tons of weight. How the hell did you do it? I hope you're eating properly..." I was mortified as everyone looked at me, wondering just how porky I'd been before Blush

Not quite decided on all today's food:
B - avocado
L - buttery vegetables with pizza pan topping recipe here
D - Probably greek-style turkey burgers, with salad

nowlook · 03/02/2019 09:18

@venusandmars I like the look of that pizza pan topping. Do you just use passata/chopped tomatoes for the sauce element?

venusandmars · 03/02/2019 09:25

Yes, the lowest carb ones I could find. I use less tomato than the recipe, and more cheese, mayo, pepperoni etc.

tootstastic · 03/02/2019 09:33

3 stones off!!!

Equivalent to 19 bags of sugar no longer on my ass 🎉

ShagMeRiggins · 03/02/2019 09:43

Grin toots

Doilooklikeatourist · 03/02/2019 09:44

Weighed in a day early, as we are in an airport hotel tonight with DD off travelling tomorrow ( no , not jealous at all 😎34C in Bangkok apparently )
Stayed the same , but I only have about 8lb to lose , I’m not surprised
Will be back on Bootcamp Strict , when I get back home on Wednesday and doing the best I can until then

Doilooklikeatourist · 03/02/2019 09:44

Well done @toots

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 03/02/2019 09:45

I swear DH is subconsciously trying to sabotage me. Since Christmas he's:

  • developed a desire to make pies, lasagnas, crumbles and Victoria sponges
  • bought a combo toastie/waffle maker
  • gotten into artisan gin.

He is away this week so the temptations (apart from the bastarding waffle makes) are absent. I've meal-planned the crap out of next week and I feel good! Smile I even made and watched DD eat waffles piled with every sugary substance known to man while I had chicken and egg for breakfast.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 03/02/2019 09:46

@tootstastic AWESOME 🎉🎊🎉🎊

MrsFionaCharming · 03/02/2019 09:49

Lost another lb today! Very pleased with my progress so far; another stone and 8lb to lose before May doesn’t seem unrealistic.

Unfortunately we’re going wedding cake tasting today, so I expect that will set me back a little.

I have had a shocking week, the weather here has meant v early starts and long journeys home, kids playing up all week and that's meant I've hit the dark choc and red wine.. I havent weighed myself since Monday, I was down a tiny bit, about . 5 of a kg..
I've got a training day this week on my day off in London, which means no day to catch up with myself, I'm trying to not stress about it, but my day off keeps me sane generally.. No idea what lunch will be, possibly carb based, have to hope I can just eat sandwich fillings etc. Will take a trusty boiled egg! Also got a late night at work and lots of deadlines, I've prepped loads of meals to just heat in the evenings so hopefully that'll stop me reaching for the carby stuff, although it's the wine and chocolate that calls to me. Going to stick to 5 days proper boot camp, allow myself a couple of glasses on a Saturday.
Also going to step up the running, going to book onto a half to motivate myself. Fingers crossed after a run today and a 5k tomorrow with running club I can undo some damage done.. Guessing best hope is I've not put any on again!

BIWI · 03/02/2019 10:41

@tootstastic Star Flowers fantastic! Really well done. What an inspiration you are.

@UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea

here's a recipe for waffles that you can make with cauliflower!

It's American, so you'll have to work out how to convert the cups, but sounds very interesting! I was reading it yesterday and sad that I haven't got a waffle maker - so you can test it out on my behalf and let me know if it's worth buying one. Smile

@Siameasy I was inspired by your side salad, sounds lovely! Going to try it for lunch this week with home made scotch eggs ☺️

AandL · 03/02/2019 10:55

Good Morning!
So nice to come down to clear counters and dining table after yesterday clean-a-thon!
AND the scales were down too :)

Just had delicious breakfast of low carb mug bread. cream cheese & seranno ham, lovely weekend treat

RECIPE
Melt 1 large tsp of butter in a mug in micro
Add 30g ground almonds (fyi 2.1g carbs/190 cals) , seasoning (I use salt, pepper, oregano) 1 egg and half tsp baking powder.
Cook for 90 secs, tip out and cut in to round slices.

CognitiveDissonance · 03/02/2019 11:01

Morning all, I'm feeling a lot more positive this morning so thanks again for all of your lovely positive comments everyone! Had an amazing dynamic Yoga session yesterday and a great gym session this morning it dawned on me that I've started turning to exercise instead of sugar when I'm feeling upset or stressed out. That is a major turn around for me. I managed to kick my binge eating habit last year too so when I look at the bigger picture, things are moving in a positive direction for me.
Also, my mum (who I live with) is so incredibly supportive. She's not low carb herself (yet!) but when she cooks, she cooks with me in mind and is so positive about what I'm doing, it's helping to keep me on track even in that moment of demotivation. She is convinced that I just need to tweak and make adjustments to what I'm doing and eventually I will start losing. Onwards and upwards!

AandL · 03/02/2019 11:05

That's a great upbeat post to start the day @ CognitiveDissonance

tootstastic · 03/02/2019 11:08

Thanks everyone, I'm only a third of the way there, but I'm feeling like I can definitely carry on and lose the lot.

AandL · 03/02/2019 11:11

@tootstastic
Thanks everyone, I'm only already a third of the way there, but I'm feeling like I can definitely carry on and lose the lot.

tootstastic · 03/02/2019 11:12

@AandL you are very right! Thank you! I'm ALREADY a third of the way there.

BIWI · 03/02/2019 11:20

Great correction @AandL!

Wow @toots!!!

m0therofdragons · 03/02/2019 11:36

I had to weigh myself 3 times this morning to believe it. 3lbs off for the week. That means 7lbs/half a stone in 3 weeks. On track to meet my targets and be a healthy weight by my 37th birthday.

Thank you everyone for keeping me going.

wasabiaddiction · 03/02/2019 13:55

@tootstastic
That is fantastic.

Can you post a bit about your history and how you achieved it.

(I am now 230lb (was 240) and need some positive stories to carry on as I have stalled for last 2 weeks and am getting disheartened).

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 03/02/2019 14:25

Yes please do tooltastic
