Many apologies for the late start of this thread - early start for work + horrendous traffic problems on my way to this location meant I didn't have time!

Anyway Here's the spreadsheet

I'll go and catch up with the other thread now!

Good luck for this week Flowers

Hesdeadjim Bootcamp is an effective way to reverse diabetes and prediabetes. I don't recommend the 800 calorie approach because it's so drastic. In my opinion it is best suited to people that need to lower their blood glucose extremely quickly because they are already suffering diabetes complications and/or lose weight fast for an operation.

My Fixing Dadd program is aimed at people with diabetes, prediabetes or a family history of diabetes. It's slightly more moderate than Bootcamp and we still see great results, not just in terms of weight loss but I have also had type 2 diabetics come off their insulin and lots of people coming off metformin and blood pressure medication. The Fixing Dad program is free unless you want to pay for coaching. We also have a Low Carbb program but it isn't available free. If anyone is interested in signing up when Bootcamp ends then let me know as I can give you a £10 discount code.

BIWI · 15/03/2017 10:04

It's definitely safe if you follow their guidelines and eat properly, rather than living off 800 calories of junk!

StuntNun · 15/03/2017 10:04

Sorry for the bold fail, that keeps happening on my phone for some reason.

Hesdeadjim · 15/03/2017 10:13

Thanks Stuntnun, I'll bear that in mind.

I'm going to see how things are after the full bootcamp has finished, then have a think about where i go next :)

explodingkittens · 15/03/2017 10:43

Hi all, great to see so many still KOKO! hesdeadjim so sorry to hear you've had bad news, I think you are doing marvellously by the sounds of things Flowers

Am still on the LCHF bandwagon (have wobbled a couple of times where pizza was involved but apart from that have been pretty much on the straight and narrow) and feeling mainly great, but did want to ask a quick question.

I seem to have developed some nasty what-looks-like eczema on my right arm, mostly around the elbow. It is really itchy and sore and looks pretty unsightly. This is something that I have definitely noticed more when strictly LCHF, which is so, so odd because the rest of my skin is so much better! Unless I'm allergic to avocados then I can't see it could be anything other than eczema - can anyone cast any light on why this might happen on LC? And any good creams to help with the itching - I'm using e45 anti itch at the mo which is ok but not great.

ASDismynormality · 15/03/2017 12:21

Reading the Blood Sugar Doet book is what convinced me to go low carb, the diet the book recommends was too strict for me - bootcamp is just right especially as I have got the hang of what I'm doing.

ASDismynormality · 15/03/2017 12:22

explodingkittens - Aveeno is supposed to be a good cream, I hope,it clears up.

MyShinyThing · 15/03/2017 12:56

ExplodingKittens could it be that you're now eating more dairy? I only say that because DS had terrible eczema as a toddler & when we cut back the amount of dairy he was having (on advice of GP) it cleared up completely.

I know a few people that say dairy triggers an eczema flair up.

ragz134 · 15/03/2017 13:09

I did the 800cal blood sugar diet for three weeks, lost a stone then carried on just LCHF not counting calories. I found I got too cold on 800cals and as I'm hypothyroid I was worries it was too low for my metabolism. However it was a great boost to start this WOE.
I have occasional fasts now so a few days a week under 800cals and only have breakfast once a week.

Grah0SoontobeaFatty · 15/03/2017 15:28

ragz when you get cold on 800 calories do you eat any food that contains iodine? iodine is supposed to help with thyroid problems and generating heat via our metabolism.

Read that the iodine we used to get from foods is less and less due to farming practises and reduced iodized salt intake. Cranberries liquidized and added to tea/water is really nice and only requires 2oz a day to get the RDA.

Wondering if you try it can you let us know if you see any difference.

CaptainBraandPants · 15/03/2017 20:35

Just catching up. This thread does remain interesting.
Hope everyone is ok and happy belated birthday's to nekobus and Very

I'm in the midst of a very busy week at work. Plus, I'm not at my normal workplace, so I miss my office and normal surroundings. I'm KOKO though. I did have some 90% chocolate last night as a pick me up and I can see wine in my future. Grin

Had chicken salad for lunch today and fish pie from the freeze, which had frozen better than I thought it might, which we had with kale and green beans. Plus 3 creamy coffees - two on the way to work and one Costa one this afternoon. I think the only plus point about where I am working this week is that it has a costa on site!

SummerSazz · 15/03/2017 21:59

Not sure if anyone can help here but I've lost over a stone since Jan but my Fitbit scales have shown no decrease in body fat % for the last 3 weeks. I have no idea if they are any kind of accurate on this measure but I have been eating well - no carbs other than veg, small amount of milk (and some weekend wine) and exercising.

As I say, the weight is coming off but not the fat which is counter to what I thought the low carb approach did which was to get your body to release fat??

Thankyou! Smile

BIWI · 15/03/2017 22:02

If you're properly low carbing, then your body will be burning fat rather than carbs - by definition.

I don't know anything about Fitbits, but this might call into question their accuracy?

OP posts:
SummerSazz · 15/03/2017 22:25

Biwi - thanks for your reply - I started looking at the Fitbit forums after posting and there does seem to be an issue (which they deny!) so I'll ignore it for now. 40%+ fat and no movement was just a tad worrying!

BIWI · 15/03/2017 22:26

... plus the fact that it's only been the last 3 weeks!

OP posts:
SummerSazz · 15/03/2017 22:32

Part of my pissed off news was that I'd gone from 43.2% in Jan down to 39.2% and then gone up to 40.2% where I've stuck ever since. I'll just KOKO Grin

BursarsFrogs · 16/03/2017 08:11

I had a look at the blood sugar diet, but haven't tried it, as the website tells you not to, if you have an eating disorder. I might revisit the idea though, if I can't shift this weight otherwise, just to qualify for some medical stuff.

I was nil by mouth yesterday morning, and when coming round from sedation, got offered tea and toast. It seemed like the best idea in the world at the time. The rest of the day was a bit of a weird one, I mostly ate cheese, I think.

Courgetti bolognese tonight.

Hesdeadjim · 16/03/2017 09:13

Feeling a bit better today about everything. The shock has gone thankfully and I'm starting to feel a bit more normal!

Creamy coffee for breakfast today then sirloin steak, cauli, broccoli, gravy and horseradish sauce for dinner. I haven't worked out lunch yet, it will either be a protein shake or something I can get from tesco if I get time to nip out.

I've got a difficult day at work ahead (hence the coffee!) but I'm feeling prepared, if not entirely capable Hmm The sooner this week buggers off the better!

Managed my 4 litres of water yesterday, aiming for the same today because it really seems to help with the cravings.

It's my lovely rescue hound Elvis's 2nd birthday tomorrow and he absolutely loves this specific walk we take him on, so straight after work tomorrow I'm donning the walking boots and going out for a really long walk. Planning a swim tonight and I'll be off to the Gym again on Sunday. After I've done the housework on Saturday morning I quite fancy another nice long walk somewhere in the middle of no where to blow off the stress from the week, so all in all it should be a pretty active weekend. If the weather's good on Saturday I want to go and explore somewhere I've never been before so I'll pack a lunch up and take a rucksack like a proper rambler Grin Any ideas for low carb, easy to eat on the go food that isn't boiled eggs or chicken legs?

LazydaysofSummer · 16/03/2017 13:15

Hesdeadjim - If you're heading to Tesco they do a nice, smoked ham and Egg Omelette wrap, looks like a normal wrap, got a bit of salad in it, cut into two, but it's very fine omelette and not bread based. Only 4.3g for both sides. Might be an option to make yourself and chill for your hike too, but I bet it's tricky to get the omelette that fine.

Hesdeadjim · 16/03/2017 14:34

I've bought myself a dehydrator to make dog treats with today (my dogs are raw fed and raw feeding treats are extortionate!) so I'm planning to make myself some low carb crackers to have with pate and cheese. I ADORE smoked mackrel pate and I've found I'm missing it a lot, but don't want to waste the stuff I have by eating it on celery etc.

The recipe below is basically cauliflower, cheese and eggs then you add whatever flavours you want to it. I plan to try a rosemary one first (I've got a ton of rosemary running wild in the garden) and then branch out into other things. I'm going to try dehydrating some tomatoes, turning them into a powder and flavouring them with that too :)

The recipe is here:
charlieeats.com/2013/11/03/cauliflower-crackers/

If a batch makes 40 crackers, then 1 cracker is 1g carb, 36cals, 2.6g fat and 2.3g protein. Not bad! 5 of those with mackrel pate would be an awesome lunch treat at weekends :)

It also means I can eat apple again, because instead of having to eat the whole apple or waste it because it's too carby, I can slice it thinly and dehydrate it, then eat 1 slice with a slice of cheese rather than having the whole apple Grin Same with any fruit really. Dehydrated berries would be yummy on FF yogurt....

Exciting :)

Hello everyone.
Just checking in. I am failing at bc but still reading and trying to get my head into the right place.

Belated birthday wishes to those who have had one, and I'm sorry to hear you had shocking news Hesdead Thanks

I have previously done Stuntnun's low carb programme and found it very useful.

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 17/03/2017 08:16

StuntNun

Thanks for your reply on the 14th. I am now packing little snacks I can graze on during the day such as cheese and meat. This is really helping to get me through to my next meal without feeling too hungry. And thanks to you, i also brought some pork crackling which is delicious and you don't need much to fill you up. Where do you buy the salt and vinegar ones from though?

Re the nuts. I have been having 25 grams of Brazil nuts which according to the packet are 0.7g of carbs for the portion. If this too high? If so, I will stop eating them.

Thanks

BIWI · 17/03/2017 09:00

Today - by now, really, you shouldn't need to snack between meals though! The thing is, every time you eat, you're raising your blood sugar levels/provoking an insulin release to deal with that.

If you're still hungry between meals, try upping your fat and also making sure you drink more water.

LazydaysofSummer · 17/03/2017 10:18

Given my weight loss has stalled I've tried to be super good this week, I've cut out most dairy in case I was eating to much cheese and avoided all alcohol, but the weight just isn't shifting. I'm going to KOKO as I'm not putting any weight back on at least, but just wondered if I'm doing something wrong, I suspect I'm possibly not having enough fat, but with years of fat being bad ingrained on the brain it's tricky to adjust. I've kept a food diary this week so know exactly what I've eaten/drunk.

A typical day
B - 1 scrambled egg with a slither of butter
L - Ham salad with mayo - 50g ham (2g), mixed salad that had some carrot and red cabbage (2.5g), 1 small tomato (2g), 2 sticks celery (0.5g), 6 slices cucmber (0.5g),1 spring onion (1g), 2 tablespoons mayo (0.5g) so I've been thinking about 10g for lunch. (I swap ham for Tuna every other day, but then have more mayo so probably works out similar)
D - Last night was slow cooked lamb (0g), with cauliflower cous cous (3g) and mixed veg from a tin (4g)
I have four cups of tea a day, with a teaspoon of milk in each (1g) and three cups of herbal tea
Drink three litres of water daily at least.
No snacks, as I just done feel hungry with this WOE.
I was hoping I'd lose some weight this week, sticking to under 20g a day but at the moment it's just not moving, any ideas what I can do to get it shifting ? I haven't been exercising much, get 10K steps but that's about it. I'm going to have to hit the gym or hope the weather picks up then I can go for a run, aren't I?

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 17/03/2017 10:18

Hi BIWI

I Was hoping by now I wouldn't be so hungry between meals. I have been doing this for 2.5 weeks now so I figured I must be doing something wrong.

Perhaps it's not enough fat. Not really sure how to increase it though. I definitely drink my 3.5ltrs a day and usually more than that.
