Come and sign up here! Bootcamp is 10 weeks long, the first two weeks being the most strict.

We don't eat any of the following in the first two weeks:

potatoes
pasta/noodles/grains/oats
rice
bread/cakes
biscuits/crackers
sugar/sugary drinks/sweets
flour
fruit
chocolate
alcohol
nuts
artificial sweeteners

But we do eat plenty of:

meat
chicken
fish
seafood
eggs
vegetables
salad
butter
full fat yoghurt
cheese
cream
olive oil/coconut oil

Bootcamp is designed to be easy to follow - no weighing or counting of anything. If you just follow the rules (only 10 of them) then it will work for you.

Ten rules of Bootcamp

  1. Eat three, proper meals a day.

You must eat breakfast. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you’re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn’t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

  2. Avoid processed food, and focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals – meat/fish/eggs. Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

  3. Maximise your fat intake.
Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat – e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

  4. Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food
    – this is where your carbs should come from. But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list. You don’t have to weigh/count carbs – this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you’re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

  5. Minimal dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited).
If you are drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but only in small amounts.

  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day. The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink.

  7. No alcohol

  8. No fruit

  9. No nuts/seeds

  10. No sugar or artificial sweeteners

Has anyone any experience of giving up breastfeeding and dieting? I've been on BC lite for a week and I have lost nothing. Now you may say BC lite, oh well, but I've lost in the past doing this, especially in week 1, and especially compared to the total shite I was eating over Christmas. I've drunk 3 litres of water most days (apart from yesterday) but the scales have remained stubbornly still. I started weaning DS on Sunday (he's 18 months) and my boobs are actually bigger than they've been. Hmm I'm wondering if my body's just in a bit of a state of utter confusion right now. I'm going to KOKO anyway, and start Bootcamp proper on Monday.

StuntNun · 16/01/2016 08:07

TooMuch there are bound to be hormonal fluctuations associated with weaning off the breast. You could have a temporary build up of milk in the breast too which would mask any weight loss. Or it could simply be a stall or an effect of the golden shot theory (where second or later attempts at going low carb are less successful than the first time). When I last stopped bf I dropped 2 lb very quickly after a week or two. I thought at the time that this was the extra weight they say you keep on when you're breastfeeding. Hth.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 16/01/2016 08:16

Thanks StuntNun. I'm going to hope I drop 2lb very quickly in a couple of weeks! I want to lose 2 stone by the end of May (holiday!) so I will just keep plodding on - I can't afford to fall off the wagon and start later! Maybe I should start exercising as well.

BIWI · 16/01/2016 08:58

feekerry Don't be surprised or too upset if you don't lose any/much weight in weeks 3 and 4 - it's very, very common for weight loss to stop at this point in time, especially if you've lost a lot in the first couple of weeks, as you have. Just KOKO and things will soon get going again.

sheepysheep · 16/01/2016 09:17

Tooextra I gave up BF yesterday ... DS is 51 weeks and we were down to night feed only. Unfortunately I have to go back to work on Monday - I have to travel a lot including international so it didn't seem practical to continue and I have very reluctantly stopped. We had a very long night last night - he has not taken it well :-( I've been doing BC lite 90% of the time since Boxing Day and gone from 75.9 to 72.4 but the loss isn't linear - some days it goes up or it stays the same for a week then whoosh, a big loss. I'm not sure if this is par for the course with LC or an interaction with the hormones associated with BF. When I stopped feeding DS1 at 12 months I suddenly lost half a stone without much effort - and I was a stone lighter than I am now to start with - I wonder if BF makes you hold on to some weight as a reserve?

FelicityFunknickle · 16/01/2016 09:25

Cannot wait for Monday. I did start on 4/1 and was doing well.
BUT. Huge fail in the last few days in relation to Wine Blush
Also had a chocolate biscuit and a piece of Christmas cake yesterday. Oh, the shame! I think I saw the new BC start date as an excuse to lapse tbh.
But I haven't completely thrown in the towel. Still avoiding all the brad and pasta and spuds etc.

Spent all of yesterday throwing up, mega wine hangover of doom so might as well start today :)

Mookbark · 16/01/2016 10:13

I'm all set for Monday. HadWinelast night as I knew it'd be the last for a while. Grin

Equiem89 · 16/01/2016 10:44

I'm mentally prepared to start on Monday. I've low carb'd several times in the last couple of years but always slip back into old habits. I'm having an Indian takeaway tonight :D

StuntNun · 16/01/2016 12:52

Here's an example of typical weight loss. The dotted line is my actual weight and the solid line is the rolling average. As you can see from the dotted line, although I lost 4kg over the three months, my weight went up and down over that time. You'll hear us say 'the trend is your friend' meaning so long as the overall trend is downwards then don't be too worried about your weight on any one day. Measuring your waist and hips is really helpful as a lot of people find they lose an inch from their waist and/or hips but the scale shows their weight staying the same.

18 January - the next low carb Bootcamp!
Gcalgske · 16/01/2016 15:12

Your graph speaks to my inner geek stunt. I love it. X

Jerm123 · 16/01/2016 16:26

Hi, does anyone know how xylitol affects this diet? I have a very sweet tooth and am addicted to a cup of coffee in the morning. I have been using a xylitol sweetener this week (my trial before the start) and also used it in tea. I have lost 7lbs since Monday, so despite the fact it will be mostly water, I think the diet is working. I'm dubious of my ability to keep to any diet which does not allow sweetened hot drinks. It is not artificial, nor true sugar and has a GI of 7....

BIWI · 16/01/2016 17:01

One of the key things about Bootcamp is to break the hold over us that sweet things have. You would be far better trying to avoid it altogether.

OP posts:
Gcalgske · 16/01/2016 17:02

Sweetners are really not BC especially in the first two weeks, after that in very small amounts occasionally in BC lite. I've found BC good at breaking my dependence on sweet things so it might be a good chance to try and see if you can kick the habit? Some of the fruit teas etc are very sweet tasting to me unsweetened once I'm in ketosis, you might find one that works for you?. It depends on your own body though, I know some people who even xylitol will raise blood sugar and kick them out of ketosis and I am not a fan of the cooling mouthfeel. I prefer erithritol and stevia as a blend when I do use it.

feekerry · 16/01/2016 17:35

Not quite the same but I used to have 2 sugars in every tea until 2 years ago when I cut to half then nil. Honestly never looked back. Couldn't drink tea/coffee with sugar or sweetner now. I would gag. Funny how tastes change over the years!!

hefzi · 16/01/2016 17:44

StuntNun I am a lot, lot, lot heavier than you, so I appreciate that this might be outside your personal knowledge, but would you recommend counting inches and also pounds? Also, should I be weighing myself daily/weekly/fortnightly/at the end of bootcamp?

I'm a bit concerned as I'm not very mobile at the moment, and won't be for a few more months, as a result of an accident, and I found it really soul-destroying last year when I spent three and a half months on a 1000 calorie a day diet, which I kept to rigidly (except for the last fortnight, as I'd lost the will to live by then!) and lost precisely 1lb: I'm hoping that shaking up how I do things will get things moving until such time as I can get moving, but I do admit I am worried by all the recipes I've been reading that involve lots of yummy things like full fat cheese and cream!

I am finding it difficult to process that all the things I've been steered towards for years are the things I need to avoid: I admit I shuddered when I saw someone recommending butter on cheese with Marmite for a snack - I can't even bear butter in sandwiches/on potatoes/on scones etc if I am having cheese as well Grin (in fairness, I was that way as a child too - it's not the low-fat brigade that did that to me!)

And I noticed in the supermarket, when it comes to dairy, there is comparatively little choice when it comes to fat content - I was doing the shopping yesterday, and compared to the shelves of 0% yoghurt, cottage cheese, fromage frais etc, there was a single option in each "type". Mind you, I am so excited I can go down that aisle again (I've been avoiding it for a few years trying to limit my sugar addiction) I didn't moan about it too much Grin

BIWI · 16/01/2016 17:52

Hefzi it's really important that you understand the science behind low carbing - and why this should be a high fat way of eating! when I start the new thread on Monday have a look at the tabs on the spreadsheet for the different resources and watch some of the videos or read some of the articles blogs.

OP posts:
AuntieMaggie · 16/01/2016 18:22

Can someone please add me? I can't copy the list on my phone it's too long! Thanks Smile

I'm 2 kgs down after sort of BC lite for a week and a half but need to do it properly and lose some serious weight. Biggest challenges for me are tasting DS'S food to check it's ok (esp rice/pasta) and eating when out and about with DS as I don't want to end up carrying loads of food! I've also got more of a sweet craving compared to previous low carbing and am craving chocolate which I never crave normally!

Jerm123 · 16/01/2016 18:33

Thanks for the replies. I have cut down on sugar drastically - but am concerned re breaking ketosis. I had 2 teaspoons (xylitol) a day, last week and hope I can cut it out. I'm trying to find out what which is the least bad. If I don't have a back-up plan, I might give up needlessly! I have the willpower of a gnat.
I suppose I'm lucky that the weight is disappearing......some people crave a glass of wine, or cake. With me, it is a sweet cup of coffee before the commute and tea at 3pm (when everyone else in my team has chocolate)
I will do my best.

patientzero · 16/01/2016 18:47

Could somebody add me please? I'm on my phone and it will only let me c&p half of list for some reason
