In the first week or so of Bootcamp, the chat thread tends to move very quickly, so if you have any specific questions, post them here - and then there's more chance that they will get spotted!

But what do I know? Grin

regenerationfez · 18/10/2015 22:34

So just for the future, are all lentils pout? No Dhal, no kidney beans in chilli, even in BC lite?

fluffywol · 19/10/2015 11:45

I've been LC for 9 weeks now and I still have the problem of not being able to stomach a savoury breakfast. Even eggs make me heave in the mornings, and I'm at that 'can barely face another egg' phase in any case. Does anyone have any ideas of something non-savoury (but not sweet, obvs) I can try please? I do have Greek yoghurt from time to time but it's not really keeping me satisfied for long, unless I eat a whole 500g tub, which so not a good idea Smile

BIWI · 19/10/2015 13:15

No pulses at all on Bootcamp!

regenerationfez · 19/10/2015 14:12

Darn! I do love a pulse! Fluffy Im getting a bit bored of eggs for breakfast and the greek yoghurt doesnt really fill me up either, so Im awaiting a reply too! Im fine on lunch and dinner, but Im on egg muffins with either bacon or mushrooms that i made and froze, eggs and bacon/ smoked salmon/ sausages or greek yoghurt plain, but Im hungry after that. Mind you, its no different to toast/ toast/ cereal/ toast, suppose...

pootlebug · 19/10/2015 14:52

I appreciate that berries are only allowed from bootcamp light (long-term intermittent low-carber breaking the rules!) - I have a breakfast of a smoothie made from a raw egg, 100g coconut milk, and 100g frozen berries. Only around 7g of carbs and keeps you going because all of the fat and protein.

Look for a coconut milk with no added crap - just coconut and water. I use this which is 80p per tin if I buy in bulk from the local chinese supermarket.

If you chill the coconut milk, then it is hallway between smoothie and ice cream.

pootlebug · 19/10/2015 14:54

I know the raw egg sounds disgusting, but you can't see it when it is mixed in, and it improves the texture and flavour without tasting at all egg-ish.

fluffywol · 19/10/2015 18:03

Thanks Pootle I'll consider that idea. As I've been LC for a couple of months I might move onto BC light and add dessicated coconut or chia seeds to a portion of Greek yoghurt and keave overnight, which will add more filling fibre to it.

PrincessLuna · 20/10/2015 12:56

I am getting tingly / numb / shaky legs particularly first thing in the morning - a bit like pins and needles. It's making exercise difficult. I feel like my legs have no power.

Any ideas why this might be?

pootlebug · 20/10/2015 13:16

PrincessLuna - you might be lacking salt. You need extra salt on a low carb diet, and not having it will make you shaky. Salt all food, and you can add a cup of chicken stock or similar too to make sure you get all the salt you need.

Don't forget you're not having stuff like bread which has loads of salt added to it.

Huntthepigsear · 20/10/2015 13:30

I think it might be lack of magnesium, too.
I have been having some difficulty sleeping and again, magnesium seems to be a possible cause for that, so I've ordered some Mg tablets from amazon. Apparently, they make you poop too, so an added bonus Grin sorry, TMI moment

Mumof5and3 · 20/10/2015 22:26

So is that a no to a splash of skimmed milk in tea then?

Mumof5and3 · 20/10/2015 22:46

So no dash of skimmed milk in an occasional cup of tea then?

Huntthepigsear · 20/10/2015 22:49

Mum are you really desperate for a cup of tea, then? Grin
I don't drink proper tea, so can't help, sorry.

regenerationfez · 20/10/2015 22:52

I would say skimmed milk has carbs and no fat, so a double no. At home, I have almond milk, which tastes fine in tea. My problem is when I'm out, I should just not have milk in tea or coffee.

Mumof5and3 · 20/10/2015 22:59

Pretty desperate yes. - I'll give the almond milk a try though, thanks.

regenerationfez · 21/10/2015 12:31

Buy fresh. The long life stuff I find too nutty tasting for tea, but the fresh Approach is fineSmile

regenerationfez · 21/10/2015 12:32

Not approach! Alpro!!!

Mumof5and3 · 21/10/2015 14:39

I've tried it. I was very wary as I'm so fussy about my tea, but I found it very good, not much difference really, so am very happy now. Thanks for the advice.

regenerationfez · 21/10/2015 15:28

!GreatSmile Now I need someone to find me a bread substitute

BIWI · 22/10/2015 09:33

If you're going to use ordinary milk (which you should do in strict moderation), then make sure it's full fat, not skimmed.

regeneration the longer you try to find 'alternatives' to anything high carb, the harder this WOE is going to be for you. Don't try and have a bread alternative, just look for different things to eat. If all you're doing is thinking about alternatives, inevitably you'll be disappointed and will become swiftly disenchanted about low carbing. Because nothing is like bread; nothing is really like potatoes, etc.

OP posts:
regenerationfez · 22/10/2015 13:40

OK I'll give up on the bread search and accept not having it! I'll look at my not bloated tummy instead whenever I fancy a hunk of white bread with a wedge of butter on it Grin

Huntthepigsear · 22/10/2015 13:49

regeneration I have not really had bread for a long time prior to LCing (several years) as I realised that it interfered with my weight loss. It is like crack cocaine for me, if I have a slice then I'm addicted once more. Therefore, I try really, really hard not to have it. LCing is helping as I am not hungry, therefore, not craved it as yet. fingers crossed that will last.

regenerationfez · 22/10/2015 17:22

Yes its the same for me. I bought some pâté, which was lc but then couldnt think of anything to have it on, so didn't eat it. Maybe I'll try it on some celery or something just for something crunchy.

fluffywol · 22/10/2015 18:16

I must be the only one who can't bear almond milk, I found it absolutely revolting, especially the Alpro stuff, which had a weird, plastic-y flavour crossed with raw sewage Confused Maybe I got a bad one? I've settled on Koko drink; the 'original' UHT stuff is 1.9g of carbs per 100g, which, since I don't use much of it, seems a good compromise.
