Wow! So much nattering that we've filled up the thread before the end of the week!

Here's the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for tomorrow morning.

And, for the Weight Tracker I'm not quite sure what happens with this link I think that you will be asked to enter your weight for this week and then you will see your individual graph.

I hope you all had a good week last week, and very good luck for week 2.

My PT advocates low carb (or paleo type eating)
I don't do much endurance stuff but I do body pump, pole, horse ride and spinning with no problems
Am eating clean at the minute rather than boot camp as am long term low carb but had a slip so I'm lurking Grin

Taking tea to work which is left over roast chicken, baby spinach, cucumber, assorted other salad bits, Parmesan, anchovies and hm mayo

GatoradeMeBitch · 25/01/2014 15:58

Does anyone have the link to the chicken nuggets recipe that was mentioned recently? I think it was cubes of chicken dipped in egg, parmesan and then baked, but I'd like to know the specifics if anyone has it to hand!

GatoradeMeBitch · 25/01/2014 16:08

Found it! Thank you ChesterDrawers!

"Chester's chicken nuggets

Chicken breasts, chopped into chunks or strips
Beaten egg
Grated Parmesan
Salt, pepper, and any herbs or spices you fancy

Put Parmesan in a bowl and season with pepper and any other herbs or spices you fancy. A bit of cayenne is nice. Dip chicken bits in egg, then toss in Parmesan til it is well coated. Either shallow fry in oil or butter til golden and crispy or oven bake on an oiled baking sheet. Nuggets take between 5-10 mins but a whole breast would be longer. Lovely served with swede or celeriac chips and a tzatziki dip or sour cream."

mirpuppet · 25/01/2014 16:13

TOTM - explains some of the bloat. Hoping for whoosh fairy on Monday.

Not craving my usual big bag of Haribos which is great.

I am thinking of having a drink this evening but will see if I can resist.

Celeraic Dauphinoise in oven -- first time I'm making it. Will have with left over chicken and maybe some spinach.

HumphreyCobbler · 25/01/2014 16:23

oh god I licked the cake spoon

I am finding it all a bit of a challenge at the moment, I think it may be lack of sleep? Def in ketosis (or was before the cake mixture), managing to cook reasonably efficiently given the fact that I have a three month old baby who won't be put down, resisting all the chips etc the other dc are eating, but HAVE fallen face first into a bag of cashew nuts. After three weeks I was expecting to have lost the cravings but they seem to be hanging about.

captainmummy · 25/01/2014 16:35

Nuts are my downfall too, humph.

Piscivorus - i used the slim-pasta last night wih a sauce made fomr leftover sauasage, bacon, mushrooms, splosh of cream. The pasta looked the part, but was quite hard to bite/chew, bit like elastic bands. Strange fishy smell too, i don't think I rinsed it enough. Not sure I'd have it again. For £2.50 for one portion I'd rather do courgette ribbons, or just pasta sauce over brocolli.

BIWI · 25/01/2014 16:37

Humph - are you eating enough? And, sadly, lack of sleep is likely to be a problem for you I'm afraid.

From webmd.com:

"While doctors have long known that many hormones are affected by sleep, Rapoport says it wasn't until recently that appetite entered the picture. What brought it into focus, he says, was research on the hormones leptin and ghrelin. First, doctors say that both can influence our appetite. And studies show that production of both may be influenced by how much or how little we sleep.

In fact, have you ever experienced a sleepless night followed by a day when no matter what you ate you never felt full or satisfied? If so, then you have experienced the workings of leptin and ghrelin.

Causes of Fatigue and Sleepiness and How to Fight Them
How Hormones Affect Your Sleep

Leptin and ghrelin work in a kind of "checks and balances" system to control feelings of hunger and fullness, explains Michael Breus, PhD, a faculty member of the Atlanta School of Sleep Medicine and director of The Sleep Disorders Centers of Southeastern Lung Care in Atlanta. Ghrelin, which is produced in the gastrointestinal tract, stimulates appetite, while leptin, produced in fat cells, sends a signal to the brain when you are full.

So what's the connection to sleep? "When you don't get enough sleep, it drives leptin levels down, which means you don't feel as satisfied after you eat. Lack of sleep also causes ghrelin levels to rise, which means your appetite is stimulated, so you want more food," Breus tells WebMD.

The two combined, he says, can set the stage for overeating, which in turn may lead to weight gain."

Thanks for the infomation BIWI - that is certainly tallying with my current experience! It helps to know that this is what is happening. I am pretty sure I am eating enough. Today so far I have eaten
b - thick slice of bacon with cabbage and swede bubble and squeak
l - 3 lc sausages with dressed salad
snacks - far too many nuts and parma ham
and tonight will be lamb chops with celariac and aubergine

daisychicken · 25/01/2014 17:03

When I don't sleep (have Fibro so insomnia quite 'normal' for me & I take drugs to help me sleep), I find I do eat more.. I eat to keep myself awake and that is when I found myself reaching for carbs esp biscuits or chocolate....

I do eat too many nuts now when tired as that's my easy "I can't deal with it & I need to keep awake food" perhaps while you have a v young baby, you just aim to be as low carb as poss and not worry too much about too many nuts Humph?

HumphreyCobbler · 25/01/2014 17:08

That is what DH suggests daisychicken. I am just stupidly anxious to get my body back after having the baby. I think I may have slight issues, as I got thin and stayed this for the first time ever after discovering bootcamp and then it all went pear shaped (literally!) after pregnancy.

I think I should lighten up..

ChesterDrawers · 25/01/2014 17:14

Ooh, forgot to mention I got a big bag of golden milled linseed in Aldi today which I am hoping is the same as the flaxseed I'd heard mentioned. It was £1.99 for 250g so not sure how this squares up to Holland and Barrett and the like but I will give it a go.

It was in a yellow bag by the porridge etc - never seen it before.

daisychicken · 25/01/2014 17:21

I totally get what you are saying Humph I found putting weight on in my second pregnancy really hard as I'd worked so hard to loose it after the first pregnancy! I wouldn't worry too much since babyHumph is still so tiny, you will loose the weight, it'll just be a tad slower than if you bootcamped/kept the carbs quite as low - remember this is a long term woe rather than a short term situation.

Suzymoo9 · 25/01/2014 17:21

daisychicken will try that this week.

Have just had kale crisps for the first time - I can't believe how nice they were! especially the texture - I've really missed that crunchy texture which you get from crisps/crackers. Recommended! salty and snackish

HumphreyCobbler · 25/01/2014 17:25

thanks daisychicken - it is so frustrating! I am hugely and indiscriminately hungry when pg, it is def hormonal. Since first having children I have been struggling with the weight I put on. I also think I may struggle to lose weight when breastfeeding, certainly I have the most massive boobs EVER when doing so. I think I may only feed up until six months with this baby, with the other two I kept on going for years.

GatoradeMeBitch · 25/01/2014 17:37

I think I'm on course for a three pound loss this week. I hope so anyway, it fluctuates a bit (I'm obsessed with the scales!) but I think I'm at about 2 pounds lost now, so hopefully it will be three by Monday morning.

The Chester's Chicken was lovely! I had it with asparagus and broccoli and I felt like I was eating 'real' chicken nuggets, albeit with a strong cheese taste!

Southsearocks · 25/01/2014 17:40

Ooh, not been back for a while. Some great ideas on here!

I fell right off the wagon last night but have paid the price. Out for dinner I had lots of red wine which tempted me to have croutons, then a bread roll, then the biscuits with my cheese, then later on a Haagen Dazs mini tub. I got palpitations and felt sick! Today I have been back to boot camp but the dreaded carb flu is back Sad. It has actually put me off eating anything sugary and looking back I didn't really enjoy any of it so maybe job done.

LittleMissDisorganized · 25/01/2014 17:45

I mentioned the eat water products last week - yeeurgh! Really not enjoyable at all, would rather have none, or as I then discovered, courgette papardelle (or could make into spaghetti).

I've had the first eating-out experience at lunch time with some friends who don't quite get it... we had tapas, and I stuck to meat, and a couple of "cauliflower fritters" which had a very thin layer of batter on... so more carbs than I would have liked. I'm now hungry like I used to be - so presumably it did produce insulin and I have messed up. Til today, I stuck to the rules. Not the end of the world though, right?

I was thinking of making almond pastry and a sort of very dark chocolate torte but need to keep carbs to the absolute minimum tonight really don't I? And the chicken I was going to roast is still in the freezer. Completely forgot I'd put it in there. Oh well, there's always tomorrow... fortunately I can do a variation on sausages, have courgette, cauliflower, broccoli - back on the straight and narrow it is...

I've just started "The Art and Science..." - it's also a great read though maybe not as accessible as the Dr Briffa book. This sceptic is becoming quite the advocate!!

trashcanjunkie · 25/01/2014 17:51

I cannot fucking believe it! I have put on weight.AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH. I genuinely don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I have been utterly fanatical.

bollocks cunt fuck arse

I think I might do a fat fast for three days.

Feel properly gutted

trashcanjunkie · 25/01/2014 18:20

bleaurgh. fat fast looks gross. am going for a bath and a weep. humph

SteeleyeStan · 25/01/2014 18:25

Hello all.

Uuuurgh. Of course the day we were going spend out and about and shopping was the day TOTM finally showed up. I'm crampy and grumpy, but at least now it's gonna be gone in the next day or two. Bloody hormones.

It's not been a nice day. Horrible traffic, loads of people, terrible weather, too many shops, too much money spent. On a plus side we found a lot of furniture and other stuff we'll be getting for our new house, and I've got three bucketfuls of Lidl's nice yoghurt in my fridge, and various other nice stuff.

Foods today:
B: Total with coconut oil stirred in (thanks for that idea whoever it was!)
L: Ikea's gravadlax platter and mineral water.
S: Avocado and cheese and coffee with coconut oil.
D: Some cured German sausage and no-sugar coleslaw and veggies of some kind.

Crabby Your transgressions don't sound too bad at all really. I hope you had a good time at the wedding. Stew looks very nice.
I can't actually remember all the bloods they took. It's a gynaecological consultant who I've been seeing about my PCOS and infertility, and a lot of the bloods were to go with a referral for more IVF in a new hospital (the previous attempts were interrupted cycles several years ago). I'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

Athel same decision here. It's easier not to stray to wines and other stuff when you've not left that option sort of open, I find. :)

Sarah Investigate BPC by all means. I'm not a huge fan but it hits the spot sometimes, especially with a bit of cinnamon or vanilla. I've never thought to make mine decaf though... I have decaf in the house and it tastes exactly the same, but I despise it for some reason. Stupid fake coffee...

Pleased Thanks for the hint re. Horizon - sounds interesting!

Southsea It's pretty nasty and eye-opening to realise how bad sugar makes you feel when you haven't had it for a while... (But oooh I wish you hadn't mentioned Haagen Dazs) Hope the carb flu buggers off soon again.

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 25/01/2014 19:22

Can I just second whoever it was who said that Delouis mayonnaise is almost impossible to open?!?! Grin

Tastes bloody good though. Smile

Notsoskinnyminny · 25/01/2014 19:23

Evening losers! I finally tried greek yoghurt and extra thick double cream with cinnamon and its yummy and best of all thick dc has got 1g less carbs than normal dc/100g.

Took the kids to ex-MIL's for her birthday and she'd baked loads so I came home with a delicious feta cheese and leek quiche, I just won't eat the pastry. DH is miffed because her steak pies are even better but I knew I'd eat the pastry so lied and said DS doesn't like it when she puts veg in and didn't bring one home.

Beef curry off the recipe thread in the slow cooker so just going to whizz up some cauli rice and drink some more water, haven't had enough today.

SnowieBear · 25/01/2014 21:15

Evening all!

I'm about to fall into a couple of glasses of something sparkling and cold, sorry.... I've kept it up with the food and the water, but DH had an accident yesterday and I'm stressed out of my mind. Cannog give details without potentially outing myself, suffice to say he's confined to the sofa with DS and I waiting on him. Looks like this is going to be the status quo for a while. I've been angry, upset, wired and now, frankly, exhausted.

We all had Chester's Chicken for lunch, it was yum! DH passed on dinner. I got something done for DS and I had four romaine leaves with cheese and onion spread (Aldi's,very low carb count).

Could do without having to take DS to a rugby match tomorrow, filling a tax return and seeing to homework whilst worrying how DH will manage without us in the house over the weeek.

Bother! Angry

EvaTheOptimist · 25/01/2014 21:30

Piscivorous on green beans I'm just going on the fact that I don't think they're on the list of "allowed" veg. Someone more knowledgeable than me will have to tell us their carb count.

LittleMiss I think the small amount of batter is not a big deal in the circumstances but I think you are right, probably best not followed with a low-carb dessert experiment!

Trashcan so sorry its disappointing, do you want to list a typical menu in time-honoured fashion in case of insights? Are you drinking enough water?

Snowie poor you and DH!

Off to read Crabby's fish stew recipe now as we have some fish in the fridge, could be just the thing. And the other recent links too.
