Bootcamping in another time zone

hazchem · 13/01/2014 20:20

I'm bootcamping but live in OZ. I have found I get lost in the main thread because it all happens when I'm sleeping. I though I might do the food recording here in the hope there might be some others who are also not on GMT.
Day 1
Breakfast Egg and coconut flour pancakes
Lunch Grilled halmoui with salad including some tomatoes and mayo and humous
Dinner BBQ Lamb shoulder (in wine) with spinach, mayo, cucumber and tomotoes
Sancks/others stuff: I had about 4 coffees and teas yesterday which I have milk with. And then in the evening a fat bomb and some greek yoghurt :(

Day 2
Breakfast Lamb shoulder (in wine) with spinach, mayo, cucumber and tomotoes

Yes I don't have the early breakfast, but lunch and dinner are at similar times to you - lunch 12 - 12:30, dinner around 6:30. But I go to bed a fair bit later - I'm a real night owl, so am usually up past midnight. If I could read in bed, I'd go earlier, but I can't because DS2 is in with me and the light would disturb him, so I have to wait until I'm ready to sleep. So yes, it's a looong time til bed!

TUT re champagne! Grin

I've just had the hot chocolate listed on the other thread - or rather I'm still trying to drink it, it's a bit rough!

febes · 18/01/2014 00:34

B- Creamy mushrooms and bacon with half an avo
L- Lettuce and pork casserole
D- will be -BBQ borewors with courgettes, tomatoes and peppers

DH is South African and went to the South African shop and bought borewors (sausage) packaging doen't say carb content but most borewors is 90-95% meat so hopefully ok.

DH had some beers last night as he has been off the alcohol since I started bootcamping so was a bit hard but none for me. I am in the zone! I found that last time I was bootcamping- 3years ago- once I set my mind on it it was easy to stick to the rules but its just been hard to get my mind set back on it!!

hazchem · 18/01/2014 00:44

febes I've found aussie sausages have a far lower carb content then English ones so probably the same with the borewors :)

Thumbwhich that is a long time between dinner and sleep. I've also had a hot chocolate this morning but quite a different recipe.

approx 10 grams of cocoa (unprocessed) mixed with one cup of boiling water then one cup of cold water
lots of cinnamon
sprinkle of cayenne
a drop of vanilla
all pour over ice. As far as I can calculate it's one gram of carbs.
I've been reading/watching about the shamanic properties of raw cocao so had to try. I did feel a little light headed but wonder if that is the cayenne ect. It was pretty tasty so happy to experiment with it even if I never reach a transcendental state Grin

OP posts:
Thumbwitch · 18/01/2014 06:42

Yeah, I have organic raw cacao too. Easier to get here than in the UK, tbh.
I can't have cayenne, it ruins my guts - but I might add some vanilla to the recipe I tried this morning, it will probably help!

I had a mini protein bar this morning - 2g carbs - it wasn't nice but it had been given to me free by the Go Vita health food shop so I thought I'd give it a try. Don't think I'll be bothering again!

Lunch was cheese and mushroom omelette, 2 eggs, loads of butter and a dollop of double cream.

Dinner should be lamb chops, but DH might be an arse and go for Chinese instead because he's watching the tennis Hmm

hazchem · 18/01/2014 07:20

I've not had a protein bar that I like yet. I don't know why I keep trying them :)

L) Salad with mayo, roastbeef and cheese
S) Cheese
D) Coconut pancake with a bit of cream, mayo, a chicken wing and loads of celery.

It's all a bit weird the heat is breaking but is being replaced by what looks like crazy storms. So I spent pre dinner time trying to tidy the garden.

OP posts:
Thumbwitch · 18/01/2014 13:14

And guess what - we had Chinese for dinner Hmm
Stirfried duck in plum sauce (not so good)
Beef with vegetables
BUT no rice nor rice crackers for me (good)

And again the hunger pangs hit, a bit later this time, around 10:30; I held out as long as I could (11:30) but then gave in and had more haloumi and homemade tzatziki (well it needs eating now!) Wink

No storms here, but it's been windier and definitely cooler tonight, although it was still stinking hot during the day.

hazchem · 18/01/2014 22:17

Oh Chinese is tricky it's almost all quite sweet isn't it. Good work for resisting the rice !

We didn't manage to get the storms in the end. Although about ks away there was hail. Slightly cooler here today but not much. Think we are looking at 30 odd.

Is now a good time to say I'm totally dreading weigh in tomorrow. I haven't done any weighing yet so really don't know. I've noticed how ever that my boob are bigger which could be good news (as in 2WW) or could be a sign of impending AF. Either way I don't feel it will be helpful to me on the scales :)

B) Eggs and spinach in butter with chilli, 2 coffees with cream and iced chocolate.

Now to study.

OP posts:
febes · 19/01/2014 07:51

B- Bacon, Mushrooms and 1/4 avo
L- leftover bbq meat and crustless quiche
D- steak, creamy mushrooms, runner beans, courgettes

33 degrees here which is HOT for us. Finding 3-4 litres very easy to drink.

I have lost weight but not sure how much exactly as depending where on my scales you stand you get a different reading. I tried 5 times and got 5 different readings!!! I will record tomorrow mornings first weight and get a new set of scales this week.
They have never been the same since we tried to weigh our piglets (live on 12 acres) Grin

hazchem · 19/01/2014 07:57

I'm loving the image of piglets on scales :)

33 is hot :)

OP posts:
febes · 19/01/2014 08:01

DH had to catch one and then stand on the scales to check if they were ready to slaughter. We were novices as it was our first piglets we raised from birth!! They ended up being about 50kgs but we didn't find out for our scales as they were too wriggly. The butcher told us after the fact!
No lovely glass, tap sensitive scales have never recovered Grin

hazchem · 19/01/2014 19:22

Time to treat yourselves to knew ones.

Do you eat your own bacon? Is that horrible to ask? Are you organic/free range time farmers?

Weighed in today. Am a little underwhelmed as have lost .8 Kilos. But Then I did drink champagne. I'd like to say I'll be proper bootcamp this week but it's my mums birthday and she and a friend are up mid week for a few wine filled days.

B) eggs in butter 1/2 avocado and curley kale with 2 coffee/ cream.

Don;t think I like kale. I made it with lemon juice last night and then fried some this morning and all I can taste is lemon.

OP posts:
febes · 19/01/2014 19:40

Scales show I am 3kgs down today. Not sure I believe them but I do feel I have lost. I measured and have lost a cm off most areas.
Will continue to use clothes as major sign of weight loss. I have some trousers of truth that I want to be able to get on comfortably.

Yes we eat our own bacon and pork and beef and lamb and roosters occasionally! We currently have 5 beef cattle,a ram and 5 ewes and 7 lambs, 25 hens and 2 roosters. We kill one or two heifers a year. We used to breed pigs but they take too much work. Now we buy weaners and raise them each year. Just 2 or 3 at a time.

DH also has an awesome vege patch and glasshouse so we are pretty self sufficient. We also have 2 beehives Grin

Thumbwitch · 20/01/2014 03:07

Wow, febes, that sounds fantastic!

Bloody muggy here today, not pleasant. I failed to have breakfast, except for one Tasmanian cherry (if you've ever had them, you'll know why I'm cheating for them)
But we went to some hideous soft play centre for the morning, and I didn't think I was going to be able to have lunch there (usually carb central!) but they were offering smoked salmon and cream cheese with lettuce on bagels! So I got the smoked salmon, cream cheese and lettuce with no bagel, for $6 and didn't have to suffer or starve while everyone else ate chips! Grin[win]

I seem to be down 6lb so far (just under 3kg) since last Monday eve, so quite pleased about that. :)

hazchem · 20/01/2014 04:14

Nice work you losers :)

Febes that sounds like the type of place I'd like to have but in reality I'm not much of a gardener or builder or a fixer or a...
Thumbwitch sounds like you did good at the playcentre

hello zestypears

What sort of SE food is there around you. I know some areas are really really into sugar, so I can imagine it would be tough.

I know I feel much better without "the carbs"

[pokes head in] Hi!

We've been doing a low-carb/Paleo sort of diet for a while. Also trying to reduce phytic acid intake. It's a little tough for me as I'm pretty near vegetarian and not sure I'm willing to give that up. Although we've started looking around for options re: humanely raised grassfed beef, etc., and if we find some good sources that might make it a little easier for me to introduce some meat into my diet. DH eats meat.

We do a lot of eggs, a lot of cooking with soaked beans and soaked legumes, no wheat, no pasta, etc. Lots of cheese and butter, lots of kale and spinach, etc.

Hard to find full-fat Greek yogurt here too (US).

hazchem here's how we do kale: heat oil (I use coconut oil) in pan with garlic slivers. Add kale and toss till wilted. Throw in a little sea salt. I don't think I'd like it with lemon either.

Hmmmm I have trouble comparing it to anything. But yes, I would say so. Or if you've had chard, it's a bit like that too. They all have that strong, slightly bitter flavor common to dark greens.

I really like it the way I mentioned above -- the little bit of salt and oil and garlic compliment the flavor well. If you want to try it, just wash it well, cut stems off, heat the oil and garlic slices in a big wok or pan, and then throw the kale in and put a lid over it. Turn it over every few minutes till it has wilted and salt a bit. It can be a little hard to tell if it's done, the first time, but if you try a bit beforehand and then just keep tasting a little pinch of leaf, you'll be able to tell.

KeatsiePie · 20/01/2014 06:19

zesty also just looked up Briffa -- any links you'd recommend in particular?

hazchem · 20/01/2014 06:22

Zesty Yuck. I think the only thing I really miss is good homemade bread. We make really good really yummy home made bread and I find that tricky. The solution for me is not to make it. Shop brought white bread I can do without:)

Oh that sounds much tastier then mine KeatsiePie I must admit I wasn't following a recipe just trying to remember something I had seen on telly about a month ago.
I wonder if the reason there are so many US blogs about how to make yoghurt are because you can't get full fat.

OP posts:
KeatsiePie · 20/01/2014 06:33

Ohh yeah I miss good bread. I have heard that rye bread made off a sourdough starter is much better than others in terms of phytic acid and gluten. Obviously still carbs though. I haven't tried to make it b/c it seems better to just avoid, but I daydream about it once in a while.

You may be right about those yogurt blogs! There really are a ton of them here. I tried it and it came out fine (crockpot method) but I had a terrible time finding the Greek yogurt to start it with. Should really do it again, it was very easy.

Oh, fantastic, thanks! Will look for the book and the web chats. How cool that he's so nice, that must have been lovely.

Good luck w/the yogurt and kale!
