I want to take DS to a festival but I've never been to one and imagine it would be much better for both of us if we went with other people. None of my friends with children go to festivals so I was wondering if there are any other MNers in the same boat?

I can do Whychwood although I cant buy my ticket until next month as I have just paid out £630 for OU fees.

I would like to do camp bestival as well.

GrumpyWhenWoken · 02/01/2010 00:24

I'd be up for Wychwood too, I live round the corner actually and have been a few times.

We booked for the Bloom festival last year and it was cancelled and we lost our money, so at least Wychwood is more stable.

Wastwinsetandpearls · 02/01/2010 00:32

Will they still have tickets next month?

GrumpyWhenWoken · 02/01/2010 00:42

try here for tickets

BertieBotts · 02/01/2010 00:50

Ooh it sounds great, unfortunately by the time I would have saved up enough money to buy the ticket I bet they will be sold out! You will have to let us know how it goes, and maybe I will join you next year assuming all goes well

nappyaddict · 02/01/2010 02:30

Ooooh I fancy this and Cheltenham not too far. However I have never ever put a tent up in my life!!

Wastwinsetandpearls · 02/01/2010 02:33

I am sure people will help you. I may need help as although I am a seasoned camper I have never put up our tent as dp always does it.

I have a feeling that you may make me feel old though

shockers · 02/01/2010 10:14

According to another thread, I am elderly so you won't be the only oldie

you don't have to be young. I'm 45 and have never felt out of place. It is not a teengers festival!

They are unlikely to sell out as they don't have much in the way of big name bands.

Because of the above the campsite is a very civilised place (especially the family area) and I am sure help will be given to all us Mums putting up tents (I will have a teenage boy for hire if anyone needs one!

Riven, this thread has been crashed by MNs like me who are not lone parnets but may as well be when it comes to music and festivals!

My DS3 is going to be so excited when I tell him I am going to meet up with a bunch of other families with kids!

BertieBotts · 02/01/2010 11:29

Do you know what, I have just looked at the train ticket prices and it might actually be doable, just about. I will start putting some money away and see if it's feasible.

nappyaddict · 02/01/2010 11:34

BertieBotts Where abouts are you? I would need to come by train too but not sure I will be able to manage everything.

I would love to go to Glastonbury but think I will wait til DS is 4. I would have taken him as a non-walker but the idea of Glastonbury with a walking 1, 2 or 3 year old fills with dread to be honest!

BertieBotts · 02/01/2010 12:18

I would come from Leamington Spa - there is one change at Birmingham.

Would you say it's a really bad idea with a toddler then? DS will be about 20 months in June. I was thinking for the train journey I would bring both a pushchair and a sling so that I have a trolley and a backpack and can switch around. It's just musing though really - I might have to leave it until next year anyway as there isn't long enough to save up for it comfortably, it will be a squeeze on the finances. And this is assuming I can borrow a tent from someone as well!

ra29needsabettername · 02/01/2010 12:22

any older dcs going? ds will be 13 but i would love it!

shockers · 02/01/2010 14:10

Ds will be 10 but I imagine would love the chance to 'hang out' with an older boy (if the older boy didn't find him too annoying!

Wastwinsetandpearls · 02/01/2010 15:01

My dd is 8 but in her head is a teenager, she would love older ones to hang out with

SuperBunny · 02/01/2010 15:57

Ooo fab, lots of us! My DS is 4 (but appears to be a stroppy 14 yr old in a 4 yr olds body).

I can help with tent putting up - i do ours by myself but would be grateful if I could borrow the teenager

Wastwinsetandpearls · 02/01/2010 16:06

I am going to need to get a festival tent as our 8 person tent is too big and too much for me to put up, may start a thread for ideas.

DD is very excited

Batteryhuman · 02/01/2010 17:15

My DS1 is 18 (he has special needs but is good at putting up tents and great in the festival area as he tends to stay in one place and so DS3 always knows where to come back to), DS2 can't come because of his AS levels and DS3 is 8 but equally loves leading younger ones into mischief and hanging out with older ones. I can see a gang developing!

I have a smallish dome tent comfortable for 3 of us sleeping (officially a 4 man) and with a decent porch area for shoes and the cold box and stuff). It is easy to carry and put up and perfect for festivals. I wouldn't bring our big family tent, far too much work. I just bring a little gas burner, kettle, coffee and hotchocy and instant pancake mix for breakfast.

GothDetective · 02/01/2010 17:58

Wychwood sounds good.

Would anyone else be going in a camper van or am I going to be a Billy no mates in the van field?

GothDetective · 02/01/2010 18:30

Can someone explain prices for Wychwood to me;

I need an adult ticket and a (free) kid ticket.

I need a campervan pass which is £40.

If I'm buying the campervan pass do I need to adult camping pass at £20 as well?

MelonCauli · 02/01/2010 19:16

We are booked for Wychwood too! It'll be great to see so many of you there. I'll be in the caravan field. I like my luxury. DC will be 9 (DS) and 7 (DD) by then.

Goth, I think you need an adult camping pass as well.

GothDetective · 02/01/2010 19:38

Thanks Melon.

GothDetective · 02/01/2010 19:51

Melon - are you parking in the live in vehicle bit or the tent bit if in a caravan?

I'll be in a blue high top VW camper van. It says Binka's Bus on the back window.

(I'm stripeyknickersspotty socks btw, felt like a name change).
