I want to take DS to a festival but I've never been to one and imagine it would be much better for both of us if we went with other people. None of my friends with children go to festivals so I was wondering if there are any other MNers in the same boat?

We went to Camp Bestival in Dorset last year. my 2 year old LOVED it, she still remembers Mr Tumble.

It was fabulous, for both adults and kids.

Would love to do it again.

poshsinglemum · 01/01/2010 20:33

I'm up for it. Latitude sounds great and apparently Camp Bestival is great too!

I have bene to Glastonbury loads and it's too big for my tiny dd. It's also wild so the kind of place to go without kids.

FrayedKnotRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 01/01/2010 20:39

Hi SB, I'd definitely be up for it )

I've some friends who've already said they might go t Latitude and it's not that far from me, but I would be prepared to travel elsewhere.

I'll have a look at some dates? I was really tempted by Camp Bestival last year.

SuperBunny · 01/01/2010 22:01

Oh, FK, would be fab. I would love to do both Latitude (too far) and Camp Bestival (in summer hols) but having looked at dates and locations, I think the best for us are Wychwood and End of the Road. Has anyone been to them? Or is anyone going?

Actually, that is bollocks, I CAN do Camp Bestival. FK, Twinset... you up for it? Anyone else?

I have been to Wychwood twice and am going again this year. It is the most child friendly festival.

The campsite is lovely (in the middle of cheltenham racecourse),

you can drive onto the site, though you then put your car in the carpark after unloading,

the festival area is not too big and

there is loads laid on for kids, circusy stuff, craft tents, a childrens book festival.

Access to hot running water and flush loos is a big bonus and there are soo many small kids there. my youngest was 5 the first time I went and he just ran feral all weekend making friends and roaming around.

Not many big names but wide and eclectic range of bands and it is easy to talk to the bands if you want to find out more.

I'm not single but DH would rather have hsi teeth pulled so I always just take the kids. Would be nice to meet other MNs

shockers · 01/01/2010 22:24

I looked at Wychwood last year and really fancied it. I'm also not lone but DH is really not into festivals... came to Womad for one day last year and kind of spoiled the mood for me and DCs who love it.
Do they have comedy there too or am I getting confused? ( have been researching festivals because the're great places for my kids!)
I would love to do this

Batteryhuman · 01/01/2010 22:29

Yes they have comedy at Wychwood (not always suitable for children though!). It is very exciting to discover that there are others like me who take the kids on their own. I would so like to be able to discuss the music with someone else (apart from my brother who sometimes turns up!)

shockers · 01/01/2010 22:46

Just checked out the website... am definately up for Whychwood if anyone else is.May 29th-31st... kids under 10 free

SuperBunny · 01/01/2010 22:48

Right, I think I may book tickets for Wychwood then. Although I'd have to leave by about 4 on the Sunday so would miss stuff. But think it'd be good anyway. Thanks for all help! Am glad other people take children to festivals by themselves - I was wondering if I was mad to consider it.

I'll be there with DS1 age18, DS3,age 8, and possibly one or 2 of my brothers. We could email closer to the time Shockers?

shockers · 01/01/2010 22:49

Sorry battery just read back and noticed you'd booked already. I'm going to book too !

SolidGoldpiginablanket · 01/01/2010 22:50

Ooh can I sidle on to the thread? I don't always have much time in the summer what with all the morris stuff but would love to do a festival with DS.
Mind you, morris/folk festivals can be great for kids - two that immediately spring to mind are Towersey (end of summer) and Wallingford Bunkfest (music, dancing, beer and steam trains).

SuperBunny · 01/01/2010 22:50

That was last years dates- 2010 Wychwood is June 4th - 6th

Batteryhuman · 01/01/2010 23:01

If there are a few of us we could just arrange a meeting time and place (the Pims bus?!!) and turn up wearing carnations or something!! And then try to guess who is who.

shockers · 01/01/2010 23:03
