Ex threatening court

Hi all just after some advice as I want to be as prepared as possible.
My ex and I are currently having disagreements over how often/when he sees dd. He is now saying he will take me to court. So as not to drip feed I'm offering him more time than he currently spends I'm not trying to stop him seeing her.

Anyway I've never been to court and don't know of anyone who has. Just wondering what happens? Do I get some sort of letter telling me he's started proceedings?
Do I need to do anything beforehand to prepare? Aside from get some legal advice.

The whole situation is slightly unexpected as up until recently we were getting along fine.
I'd be happy to sit down with him and talk through it but unfortunately everything that comes out of my mouth is a joke to him and we can't discuss things properly Confused
Any advice appreciated.

I agree, you cannot get them to behave better, but you need to try to listen and work to keep things civil and communication lines open, for the sake of the children.

It doesn’t always work (it didn’t in my case) but you need to try anyway.

Every Friday sounds like too much for him to be prepared to commit to. Can you suggest every other Friday overnight? Along with your usual agreement.

I have been trying honestly I love her more than I dislike him. But it's been 4 years of this, him doing the minimum.

I've stopped reaching out to him to ask him when he's having her. If he doesn't text me dates/times then I'll make plans.
I'm doing the same with Christmas this year. Every year I run her around to his family so they can see her but not this year.

I'm just fed up of being treated like a mug who will just do whatever he wants. I'm there when she's ill or upset. When she needs dropping to activities I do it. He doesn't even take her out of his house. He has no idea what she likes/dislikes. Doesn't even know her birthday without being reminded by his family. How is her life made better by him being in it? She doesn't ask for him. Doesn't even notice if she doesn't see him.

I would say he’s calling your bluff/winding you up in reality very few people actually go through with this, if he has the time and money to consult a solicitor they’ll set him straight and I doubt he’ll proceed

@Cait73 I hope so. Confused
