Hi,
Not sure if I've put this in the right place but I can't find anywhere specific to my problem.

I have a nearly 4 year old who is constantly growing (which they do, too much lol) and she is in need of new clothes and shoes.

My ESA was stopped last week due to failing my medical (I have first stage MS and fibro) and I'm really struggling to find ways to buy her these things. I've been down every avenue I can think of to get help, tried signing on to JSA while I wait for my appeal, I'm too sick for JSA so I can't get it, I've applied for a small grant from my local council and was turned down. I sold my ring that my Nana gave me to get food, gas and electric for the week so I've nothing to sell anymore.
I'm at the charity shop every day to see if they have anything in but its always the baby sized clothes and she's in age 4-5. She also has wide feet so the shoes that I see don't fit her.

My question is, are there any charities or similar that either donate clothes or do grants to buy kids clothes? I feel embarrassed asking but her clothes and shoes are getting too small, it's like she's had a ginormous growth spurt overnight. I feel ashamed walking into school with her in case people are thinking that i can't look after her. I can't afford to buy food, electric, gas AND new clothes. It's really one or the other right now and I'm already struggling with just the food and amenities.

Everything has got me down so much that I'm having to go back to the doctors next week to go back on anti depressant and anxiety medication. I've been off it for 2 years, but I was feeling so suicidal 2 days ago about everything that it's probably for the best. I never thought my moods would go this low again. I just feel like a shit mother who doesn't deserve this beautiful child. I really do want to work but I'm in so much pain daily that it's impossible right now until my pain management is sorted.

Sorry for whinging and thank you x

I know money is tight but ebay sell bundles of children's clothing quite often. Also there are charity shops although I do appreciate the money may not be there for even that right now.

Mothervulva · 02/06/2017 07:36

My local sell or swap Facebook group sometimes has people asking for clothes, it always gets a generous response.

picklemepopcorn · 02/06/2017 07:52

There is only one clothes bank in the country, as far as I am aware, it is in Nottingham. It is badly needed.

Barefoot789 · 02/06/2017 07:57

We have a local pass it on facebook group where people pass on used items for free. It's also ok to request items.
Have a look for anything similar near you.

CockneyRhymer · 02/06/2017 08:19

If you Pm me your address I can send you some bits. My Bro just dropped a load of hand me downs off here and we won't use them all.

Wait4nothing · 02/06/2017 08:27

Also ask to speak to someone at school

  • our school would certainly help in this situation (not out of school budgets but practically by having a larger area to search from)
MissKST · 03/06/2017 15:21

I can sort you some clothes, what shoe size is your DD, I have lots of outgrown shoes too. Let me know if you would like them Smile

CaulkheadUpNorf · 03/06/2017 15:25

Speak to your school safeguarding lead. They will give you details of local charities that will support.

DancingLedge · 03/06/2017 15:35

Some Children's Centres have second hand clothing, sold on a 'what you can afford to pay' basis.

CinderellasBroom · 03/06/2017 15:40

I've got sandals suitable for wide feet that I was going to give away (my 6yo just grew out of them) - let me know what size you need and if they're right I'll post them to you.

Orangepear · 04/06/2017 14:46

The children's centre near me has a clothes swap, it's really good. You take in outgrown things and choose something bigger. When you first join you can choose a certain amount of things without taking in something to swap. Maybe there is a similar one near you? Ebay is definitely worth a look as if you find something local you could collect and avoid postage costs.

BeyondDespair · 10/06/2017 09:09

Send me a message with your address and I'll send you some stuff. Xx

Urglewurgle · 10/06/2017 09:35

Oh OP, I'm sorry you're struggling.

Just a thought but who do you rent from? If it's a housing association give them a call and see if they have a benefits advisor you can talk to to ensure you're getting everything you're entitled to.

bluediamonds · 11/06/2017 06:55

Hi op,
I've been where you are, it's grim.
Ask at your local church re food bank as they often run them and there's usually no limit to how many times you use them. Also some churches have free things fir kids to do, like play group or community bbqs or prayer and pizza nights. I used to go along a lot (& still do!) to those events because it got me and the kids out the house, it was free, there was free food and most importantly I got to meet some fab people.

Good luck, I'll be thinking of you. Xx

mailfuckoff · 11/06/2017 06:59

Can you contact your local church? At ours if we had contact like that all the mum's would have a dig round and bags of stuff would be given to you.

coralush · 11/06/2017 07:17

Please DM me you address. I have some clothes my DD had grown out of. Xxx

Notreallyarsed · 11/06/2017 07:32

OP if you PM me your address I have a few bits I could send. All relatively new, nothing fancy (ASDA) but it would do you a turn.

JimbosJetSet · 12/06/2017 07:03

I have some things you might be able to make use of for your DD, pm me and let me know what sort of clothes/shoes you are after x

SlightlyTired · 12/06/2017 07:07

Hi OP, I might have a few bits and bobs - my youngest is 6 but I've not cleared out her wardrobe for a little while. Happy to send what I have if you PM me.

SlightlyTired · 12/06/2017 10:25

Seriously, OP, worried about you and want to help if you're comfortable PMing your address.

paddlenorapaddle · 12/06/2017 10:38

The local NCT clothing bank will help you
