And it was easy Smile

It's a family toilet seat with a built in toddler seat. I am very pleased with it and myself for doing it.

Tell me about the things you have done you would never have done if your ex was still on the scene. (Because these threads inspire me Smile)

Glad u posted this! I have put off fitting my new one incase its more complicated than i thought.

chickensaladagain · 27/06/2013 18:31

I wallpapered my chimney breast and I don't care if people don't like it

Very proud

DonutForMyself · 27/06/2013 18:43

Yeah! Go Herrena!

I built a metal bunk bed - lifting the top bunk on single handedly was bloody hard but there was no way I was getting any help with it at that point even if I gave myself a hernia

I also fixed a puncture on DD's bike and went camping with the DCs, putting the tent up by myself before collecting them from school.

It makes you feel really proud of yourself when you would automatically have left those jobs to your ex (or at least expected to do it between you).

AmyFarrahFowlerCooper · 27/06/2013 18:53

I emptied the trap thing on the washing machine. Sounds minor but there's no way I could cope with that usually. Have to now though!

calmingtea · 27/06/2013 19:32

Woo hoo! Go you!

I unblocked a toilet that had a nappy flushed down it!

Took wallpaper off a whole bedroom, sanded, plastered bits and painted it!

Pulled apart a broken double bed and took it all down stairs on my own (big long bits). Emptied a whole full attic (balancing on wobbly ladder).

And now I do everything - my daughter told me on father's day, mummy you are both our mummy and daddy!

HerrenaHarridan · 27/06/2013 19:47

Nope 14 it couldn't be easier. It was done in ten mins including getting it out of packaging and disposing of packaging.
I am pleased to report that mine even came with disposable gloves for removing the old one which I thought was very considerate and will be mentioned in the review.

Bunk beds?!? By yourself?!? Was it a bit like Tetris?

It's an amazing feeling being self reliant well done Smile

I love dds "your mummy and daddy" what a lovely thing to say

SweetHoneyBeeeeee · 27/06/2013 19:49

Well done, that's brilliant! Grin I do a lot of DIY anyway even though I have a lovely dh. I expect him to cook and clean so why the hell would I not take equal responsibly for 'male' tasks. I did all the tiling in our old house floor and walls, kitchen and bathroom. YouTube is your friend

AndWhenYouGetThere · 27/06/2013 19:49

I built a double bed and hung some shelves.

50shadesofvomit · 27/06/2013 20:06

I built a trampoline.

DonutForMyself · 27/06/2013 21:37

Tetris Grin

I had bits balanced on boxes and cushions and half the instructions were missing, so it was definitely a challenge!

Love that they gave you gloves, bless em. I need new loo seats (2 boys, nuff said!) and am inspired now, thanks.

Will play the Eurythmics song "sisters are doing it for themselves" while fitting them Smile

mumandboys123 · 27/06/2013 21:40

oooh...I have a loo seat sitting beside the toilet that I keep meaning to try and fit but have always been too scared to try...you have inspired me! I will report back!

SpaceKoala · 27/06/2013 21:45

Unblocked a blocked u-bend in kitchen, mended numerous bicycle and buggy tires and put ikea furniture together.
Oh, and put a new plug on a filter coffee machine few years ago, with help from google. Was rather scared about switching it on, but worked perfectly. Smile
I am not very technical at all so was very proud of myself :)

HerrenaHarridan · 27/06/2013 22:56

I love the idea that thanks to my shiny new toilet seat and enthusiasm to share across the country other people have been inspired to fit the one rats been taking up space I their bathroom. Please do report back, it would make me very happy.

There is a wing nut on the side you can't see and you just unscrew it by hand (although if it was super tight you could use pliers)
Then lift off old seat.

Line up new seat, slide 3 washers in and screw the wing but a right as you can Smile

I plumbed in a dishwasher! Actually had a DP at that time but he didn't live with me and didn't help so hope that counts!

Fixed many problems with my own computer - actually realised I was more computer literate than XP in the end which was hilarious because he was the one who worked with them.

Put pictures up. Built a shoe rack (the chest of drawers was too difficult and I had to call on a male friend :() and two bookshelves.

sillymillyb · 28/06/2013 05:57

I was on my own when pregnant, and am still incredibly proud of myself for building ds nursery furniture. I cried for 3 days when it was first delivered as I couldn't even lift it up the stairs (7months pregnant) then thought, sod this, and took it up one piece at a time and built it! That was cot, wardrobe, chest of drawers and tall boy thingy :)

muesligirl · 28/06/2013 06:35

I separated from my husband 2 months ago, and so far have picked up and built a little tykes house, assembled some ikea furniture, put up pictures and have started managing my finances.

Have a couple of camping holidays booked with my 2 year old and am taking him on holiday (on a plane) next week.

It feels good!

Lonecatwithkitten · 28/06/2013 08:33

Unblocked external drain (flexes drain rod). That made me feel good.
I already did a fair amount of DIY, but the one hate is mowing the lawn I hate the mower! My dad is coming tomorrow to do it.

qme · 28/06/2013 08:44

few years ago when I split with my ex I was so angry one day....
I had a hand made wooden bunk bed to dismantle
did it with an electric saw
threw every bit though the window
put it into the boot of my estate and took it to the dump
it took in total 4-5 hpurs and the was got wrecked but it was very cathartic :)

DonutForMyself · 28/06/2013 09:09

yay we rock!

keelyboo · 28/06/2013 10:32

i do all sorts and if its really past my ability then its probably a landlord job anyway lol

am now off to look for a toilet seat with inbuilt toddler seat never knew such a thing existed!! x

HerrenaHarridan · 28/06/2013 12:58

Keely search for family toilet seat. I got mine in amazon. I got the black pearl one because I really love it Blush

Wow! You sawed up the bunk beds! YeeHa!

I mow my own grass but it is only a teeny tiny patch tbf you could cut it with scissors Grin

BornToFolk · 28/06/2013 13:14

I painted my dining room. Disclaimer - my mum helped...a lot! Including doing a mercy dash to Wickes for more paint when I realised that I'd bought the wrong colour...Blush

I also organised the replacement of our roof. I'm not very good at that whole dealing with workmen thing and would usually have left it up to DP but I totally sorted it.

LineRunner · 28/06/2013 13:17

There is a wing nut on the side you can't see and you just unscrew it by hand (although if it was super tight you could use pliers)

Mine is rusty and locked tight and I can't unscrew it and it is in a really awkward place by the wall.

Have tried WD40.

Any other ideas? I am desperate to replace the grotty old seat with something funky.

HerrenaHarridan · 28/06/2013 23:16

Line runner: plastic or metal?
A set of pliers should give you the grip and extra leverage but ideally flat nosed pliers not long nosed although they might do it

Silly milly Shock good effort!

I took down some chandelier but more nasty like things from the sitting room and replaced with a bog standard light fitting saving the equivalent of 8light bulb usage a day.Im still proud of that.I watched u tube actually it was no more difficult than wiring a plug as all modern fittings are really clear.
