Plenty of Fish - why all the young guys as 'matches'?

I've just registered, thanks to encouragement from MNetters. All I want is a few nice nights out.

I haven't done a photo yet though, as I'm sat here in front of the webcam with a cold and zits.

The thing that fucks me off is that I'm 48, nearly 49. I look it. Why are most of the suggested matches 41, 42, 43? They really wouldn't want me. It would be embarrassing to meet them.

I've changed my profile to add a couple of years.

Can you not select the age group you're interested in? Not done that website, but the ones I did do (match.com and soulmates) you could choose the age group you wanted.

I bet you're the first person ever to lie about their age by making themselves older!

(or maybe you should be more open minded - maybe they might be into older women Wink)

Good luck :)

LineRunner · 28/01/2012 21:22

I can't find the age-select thingy.

My last relationship was a toy boy. Not going there again - I want to play at grown ups for a change!

Don't be too hasty. Most of the blokes on POF age in dog years.

LineRunner · 28/01/2012 21:46

Found it!

Doers every man aged 49 in the UK not looking for an intimate encounter really work in a warehouse? Grin

Do most men over 45 now have no hair?

OP posts:
Flotsamflo · 30/01/2012 16:07

Do most men in there 40's think that its such a 'turn on' for us women to see them :
a - photographed in their bikers gear
b - in said bikers gear next to bike
c - photograph with ex W/P with her cut out but with her hand still showing on his shoulder
d - Guy holding a fish/pint of beer

I know there is more to add to this list ladies.........

LineRunner · 30/01/2012 17:39

Flotsamflo I think I need you as my personal agent.

I've now had a reply from a guy who I used to know years ago, but has since been at Her Majesty's Pleasure.

e - always an image of a sperm or Justin Bieber with the hilarious caption, 'Me when I was younger.'
f - the joyous requests in the texty bit for 'No lumps' and 'Don't bother lying about your looks.'

g- guy wearing a tuxedo - THEE pic from his previous wedding when he still had hair lol

OMG LineRunner what was he in for ??

PinkCarBlueCar · 30/01/2012 21:39

You've forgotten:
h - reflection in bathroom mirror. Taken whilst wife / partner / girlfriend is in the other room.

Do I get to list the equivalent female photos? I've seen some corkers...

chubbasmum · 30/01/2012 21:53

ha!ha!ha! thats a popular one

i- the topless one with stomach sucked in and a constipated look on his face

PinkCarBlueCar · 30/01/2012 22:07

j - ten years ago / better looking brother / better looking random stranger.

Why would you? But I'm reliably told it happens...

purpleroses · 30/01/2012 23:35

k, taken at arms length with a good view up his nostrils....

LineRunner · 30/01/2012 23:42

How do I get to see the female profiles?? I gather from some of the chaps' comments that they're not always entirely accurate...

chubbasmum, I believe it was a financial irregularity of some sort. He wants to take me out for a drink. It's a bit like being rediscovered by Derek Branning.

purpleroses · 30/01/2012 23:50

linerunner - you have to log out and then tell it you're a man looking for a woman!

Grin at Derek Branning

MitchieInge · 30/01/2012 23:55

have you thought about paying a specialist introduction agency? There is quality schlong out there but not sure you will find them on PoF - have you got any hobbies or interests? I bet there is an agency specialising in them, or a regional one or something like eHarmony?

I joined one at the weekend and was very pleasantly surprised, although not sure this sort of structured approach is for me I think I've made a new friend or two already. And through the psychometric testing thing I match with a famous tennis coach (but he has a shiny head so will ignorez-vous him)

MitchieInge · 31/01/2012 00:10

sorry my misandry strikes again

must stop objectifying them, for one thing it just encourages them

PinkCarBlueCar · 31/01/2012 00:13

hahahaha! Very true....

LineRunner · 31/01/2012 00:25

It's all soooo depressing.

Funny, though, in a way. Mitchie, I haven't heard the phrase Quality Shlong since dear Shmuelik took me to meet his mother in Arad and his sister decided we were destined to be together.

chubbasmum · 31/01/2012 19:28

ha!ha!ha! i might have a little laugh about POF but its not all bad i was with a paying dating agency and i just got loads of paying tossers went back to POF in Aug 11 met a really nice guy i still cant believe my luck

thepeoplesprincess · 31/01/2012 21:17

Quality schlong (!)

LineRunner · 01/02/2012 01:23

So anyway, I have had only one nice email and the rest are from degenerates and losers.

The man who sent to nice email is not my type, I don't think.

OP posts:
MitchieInge · 01/02/2012 12:43

do you know what you're looking for?

I was pleased to sort of click with a few and line up some dates, then I worry that I won't know what to do with them over time. It's a bit destabilising.

LineRunner · 01/02/2012 12:56

That's a bloody good question, Mitchie.

I know that I don't want to land up with a bloke who sees my role as helping him to get over his last relationship. And a lot of the men who have contacted me (a few nice ones since I was last on this thread) all seem to very recently separated or divorced.

I really would like dates. I've made that clear. Most of these men are looking for relationships, though. The ones who aren't, can barely string a written sentence together!
