I start my job on monday. I am scared to death and one of the things that would make it better is that someone was there when I got home, to say 'hey, how did it go'

No one will be though. I will get txts and emails but thats not quite the same.

So sick of never having anyone there, just for me.

Hi, sorry, have only just managed to sit down.

I had hoped I could say it was fab, but tbh it was a bit of a let down. They had no one to train me, no uniform, no nothing. One of the nurses spoke to me for about an hour and walked me around the ward and then left me to it Hmm.
I spent most of the day in a stock cupboard trying and failing to locate bits of stock.

Apparently I do have someone with me tomorrow, but then no one else again for the rest of the week.

Am hoping for a better day tomorrow.

Thank you for all thinking of me Smile

Glad it's finally started Smile.

Sorry today wasn't that exciting, but at least you'll have a slow start to get used to it again.

bottyburpthebarbarian · 13/09/2010 20:19

Awh I'm sure it will be better tomorrow.

You'll find your feet and be FAB.

Tippychoocks · 13/09/2010 20:21

It'll be grand. That's why they need you - cos their organisation is crap Smile. You'll soon get the run of it.

LIZS · 13/09/2010 20:26

Don't worry , take it as an opportunity to ease yourself in and ask questions. Lots of jobs aren't fab to begin with.

MrsMorgan · 13/09/2010 20:50

Thank's

My mum said I am expecting too much of myself, but it's not that, I just hate not knowing what I am supposed to be doing, it makes me feel stupid lol.

Just to clarify, I meant their organisational skills, not that the company was crap. Am gibbering Smile

I too hate that feeling of not knowing what to do and then feeling that people will be thinking that you're not doing something properly. They're obviously really busy though and I'm sure it'll get better.

Antalya1 · 13/09/2010 22:24

The first day is over Smile, it will get better when you get more into it. Let us know how it goes. x

mylittleboy · 14/09/2010 15:23

mrs morgan how did it go? i really hope it was ok.

mylittleboy · 14/09/2010 15:26

im such an idiot, just read the above, sorry it was hard. starting somewhere new is always hard isnt it. heres to a better next few days. well done x

MrsMorgan · 14/09/2010 20:58

Thankfully, today was alot better, as I had someone with me pretty much all day, and learnt alot more than yesterday.

For the rest of the week I am on my own, which is very scary as I am still not 100% sure what my duties are. This does annoy me a bit as I am supposed to get 2 weeks training, and be supernumanary (sp?).

Anyhow, I have written down as much stuff as I can remember, and so will go and get on with all of that tomorrow and see what happens.

Oh, I have also been able to book October half term off, which I am really pleased about, as I didn't think i'd be able to.

How was your first day Botty ???

Sounds better :)

tiredemma · 15/09/2010 19:32

Hope its still going well for you.

x

MrsMorgan · 17/09/2010 18:48

Well that's the first week over lol.

All in all it went ok. It is still a bit frustrating that they don't have another housekeeper to train me, because I am sure there is other stuff that I could be doing.

At the moment I cannot understand why it is a 30 hour job, because there is nowhere near enough to do to fill that amount of hours.

I think their old housekeeper is on the ward next week (she is now clinical support worker), so hopefully she will be able to fill me in.

Because no ones been around to show you, there's probably a bit more to it....they may be letting you get used to your surroundings and then...you'll wonder where the hours in the day have gone.

The first weeks the worst, every job that I have ever had, I've always felt a bit like a spare part, but that'll soon change.

Hopefully, as you said, the housekeeper will fill you in on what else needs to be done.

Keep posting and let us know how your days are going, we all miss someone to come home to and chat about our day.

Have a lovely weekend xx

MrsMorgan · 18/09/2010 10:23

Thank's Antalaya Smile

I was so tired last night, I dozed off on the sofa lol.

I do hope there is more to the job than there currently appears to be. The time goes so slowly at the moment, each hour feels like 4.

Mind you, I know someone that did part of their nursing training on this ward, and when I told her i'd got the job, she said she couldn't see how it was 30 hours worth of work either.

I'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

If you've still got the job description and hopefully this should be included within the contract have a re-look at this and make a mental note of what is mentioned on and what you havn't yet done.

As you said the old housekeeper will also throw some light on the duties...but be careful not to talk your self out of a job, I wouldn't say anything to anyone at work about it not being a 30 hour role. If you can, and even if for no other reason, than to make your day go faster try and in-corporate other aspects into the role. It may also be aswell that the old housekeeper didn't do all the tasks that perhaps now you'll be expected to do.

If nothing else if you can stick at until after Christmas, then you've got a good time in the role that you can include in your C.V.

I've attached a link below which shows all for Bupa Care Homes, if you type in housekeeper it shows all the current vacancies, probably not something that you want to look into now, but just in case this one doesnt get any better..

Do let us know how you are getting on xx

MrsMorgan · 18/09/2010 23:04

Oh thank you Antalya1, thats fab.

I just said to my friend, that I plan to get christmas out of the way, and then if it is still as boring as it is now, then look for something else, so you read my mind.

Well today I was actually working with the woman that did the job before me, and so she told me alot more things that I am responsible for doing.

Today was mega busy because all of the stock comes, so at least the time went a bit quicker.

I still feel ill at the thought of going in each morning, but i'm mostly fine once I get there lol.

Slightly worried moneywise atm though, because I rang last week for the form to claim the £250 back to work grant, and yet they only sent it out today so it will be at least a week before I actually get the money into my bank. I am praying that tax credits pay me tomorrow like they said, otherwise I have no money, and bills due to go out by dd.
