Bad vibes in certain places in london

Does anyone else just get a horrid feeling in certain places in london?

The only one that particularly freaks me out is Russel Square tube station. I feel so much sadness and get quite on edge down on the platforms and I don't know why! Does anyone else feel this way about anywhere in London?

I would absolutely love to live there.

Speaking of Moorgate and similar tube stations, does anyone else freak out at the spiral staircases? I really dislike using them.. You’ve no idea who is above or below you at any point.

Only because I'm angry that the escalators aren't working.

Civilservant · 05/05/2024 09:34

Yes @NewHouseNewMe and I think that’s rational for objective reasons, eg they’re clearly less safe than other stairs!

@RobBeckettsGiantTeeth Even if someone offered to buy me a house in any of those places; Welling, Blackfen, Belvedere, Erith (forgot that hell on earth shithole) I’d say no thanks. Dreadful monotonous voids. They make me want to scream with discomfort x

Yes, this exactly!

NewHouseNewMe · 05/05/2024 09:39

You’re both more rationale than me @Civilservant and @IsadoraQuagmire - I’m convinced an axe murdered awaits!

ZZGirl · 05/05/2024 09:39

I didn't feel particularly safe at Angel recently. Was okay when I arrived at 5pm but leaving at 10pm, no

Euston is bleak.

The Bakerloo line platforms at Waterloo permanently smell of vomit. Not so much bad vibes as bad air.

Agree with Euston!

As for Bakerloo line at Waterloo. Not just vomit but shit as well.

The little corridor that gives you the choice of going straight on for Southbound & down the stairs to the right for Northbound - that is always a bit niffy.
However at least once a week, it stinks of shit - like a sewage pipe has burst. Revolting.
You hear tourists commenting about it!

Me too - that’s my lottery win house 😊

KittyCollar · 05/05/2024 09:59

@RobBeckettsGiantTeeth I just don’t know how anyone can buy a house in any of those places and be happy with it. I’d feel on edge. And coincidentally I live where Rob Beckett comes from!!!

Predictablenamechange1 · 05/05/2024 10:00

Canary Wharf. Just soulless.

zaxxon · 05/05/2024 10:02

That house!! 😍 I'd take it even if the axe murderer cost extra.

Ha ha!
Me too! It’s only a quick trot down the hill to Archway which doesn’t have dodgy vibes inside (outside is perhaps debatable) and Highgate which has the longest escalators. I know that trains don’t stop when the escalators aren’t working as it’s a heart attack waiting to happen walking up those stairs.

Shepherds Bush and bits of Hammersmith always give me a feeling of despair. Areas that changed for the worse in recent years. Not spooky but grim and depressive.

Abeona · 05/05/2024 10:55

If anyone would like to buy me the Highgate Cemetery house I'd love it, but I can't help noticing how narrow the entrance to the garage is and thinking what a bloody nightmare it would be reversing in and out. And the trudge up Swains Lane every time you wanted to walk anywhere might get a bit wearing: the pavement's narrow IIRC. And how do you get deliveries if there's nowhere for the Waitrose van to park? Plus, having to carry all your shopping up three flights of stairs to the kitchen? I wish I didn't have such a practical head on me because it would be. amazing living there, and the neighbours would be quiet.

You arrange for your lobster to be dropped off by drone, of course ... and your cashmere armchair by helicopter

WhatapityWapiti · 05/05/2024 11:12

I love that the Highgate house has a picture of itself on its wall!

Canary Wharf. Just soulless.

Have you been recently? The place is buzzing on the weekends with so many bars, eatery and things to do. It’s a lovely area.

EmmaEmerald · 05/05/2024 11:48

Is it just me who thinks the Highgate house is a bad fit for its surroundings?
There is a house that looks like some kind of space rocket on one of the side streets around Highgate Cemetery and it just looks awful.

This one isn't so bad obviously, but much as it's a nice house it seems really incongruent with the area.

I'm such a gauche pleb. Of course you do. How embarrassing that I didn't know.

BathshebaEverdene1 · 05/05/2024 12:12

" buzzing" : bars" " eateries" sorry all that just puts me off 100 per cent

Tenthousandstepsmyarse · 05/05/2024 12:45

Canary Wharf is gorgeous! Not soulless at all. There’s a shit load of history, sailing, beautiful architecture with special touches (like Celtic knot details on massive skyscrapers)

Gardens and parks.

I love just sitting there and taking it all in! The history of that whole area is breathtaking and shocking.

KittyCollar · 05/05/2024 13:33

My grandad worked on the docks and my maternal family lived over on The Isle of Dogs before the war. I feel such an affinity for the place and its history and think how much my mum would have loved how it’s all been regenerated. It’s amazing x

LOL - that is EXACTLY what I thought and how the road narrowing bollard plus kerb/road furniture is so close to the entrance.

Great minds.

At first I thought it didn't even have a garage which for £6m would be a big no from me. It amazes me how many people spend£MMM on housese in London with no off road parking.
