Where to eat?

We live in the north of England and are venturing down to London for an evening to watch Wicked in November. Show is at 7:30pm at the Apollo Theatre.

Other than the Shard, where would you eat for dinner?
Up to £100pp is our budget, must be allergy friendly (or at least able to cater to an allergy).

No Indian or Chinese food.

I'd love a tasting menu but not sure these are feasible for catering to allergies as they tend to be harder to accept change requests (understandably).

Hit me with your suggestions of good food within a reasonable distance from the Apollo please!

I'd go to Boisdale (also not far from Victoria station) but their website isn't terribly reassuring about allergies - you could try ringing them to see if it would be adequate?

Or if you don't mind going to the other side of Sloane Square, there's a Gordon Ramsey on Royal Hospital Road

Thank you. My London geography is awful having only been once before but as long as I have a tube map and can get there and back in time I shouldn't be a problem! Will check out your suggestions, much appreciated!

Boisdale is walking distance from Victoria, so no need for public transport.

Gordon Ramsey is on the 170 bus route (it's near the Chelsea Physic Garden, and the bus goes directly to Victoria station)

There's also The Goring hotel within easy walking distance

Thank you, will take a look!

Just bumping for the new day, in case anyone has any other suggestions

You won't get a tasting menu for £100 pp - sorry OP.

The Olivo restaurants in Belgravia are nice

HappyHamsters · 31/08/2022 12:20

Is it adults only or are children going to, what about the Grill at The Reubens Hotel in Buckingham Palace Rd or one of the restaurants in the Novo centre.

I'll check out the Olivo, but I've seen quite a few tasting menus for around £100pp in London? It doesn't seem an unreasonable budget.

Richard corrigan has a restaurant, Corrigans, and Michael Roux has La gavroche nearby, I havent been to either but I imagine they have a reputation to keep.

dmask · 31/08/2022 13:12

Are you going to be eating before or after the show? If before, I would go for a late lunch, as then it won’t be such a rush and you won’t be stuck with eating a ridiculous early dinner!), then you can have some drinks and nibbles after. Duck and Waffle is good for sharing plates and a great view. Barrafina does great tapas and there will definitely be something you can all eat, if you sit at the bar in the soho branch you can watch it all being cooked. What type of cuisine do you like/best for those in the groups with allergies?

BarrelOfOtters · 31/08/2022 13:20

Lunchtime tasting menus are cheaper....

AdInfinitum12 · 31/08/2022 13:27

Thanks, we're not arriving until lunch time and still need to check in to the hotel so an early dinner/pre show is probably better.
We'll just have to have a late breakfast and skip lunch so that we're hungry at 5pm lol.

Where is the hotel

HappyHamsters · 31/08/2022 14:25

If youre coming down during the week then The Ivy do an early dinner set meal

dmask · 31/08/2022 14:38

I wouldn’t recommend the Ivy if you want a London treat, they are everywhere now and the food is mediocre. I would definitely recommend the Wolseley. They do an all day menu, varied European menu, lovely setting, and you could eat for around £100 each. Then it’s a 20min lovely walk through Green Park to the the Apollo.

Westfacing · 31/08/2022 14:44

Yes to The Wolseley - and you'll pass Buckingham Palace on the short walk.

DroopyTulips · 31/08/2022 14:47

Brasserie Zedel.

AdInfinitum12 · 31/08/2022 15:03

Thank you will be checking all of these out!

Windbeneathmybingowings · 01/09/2022 14:38

Hawksmoor do a pretheatre menu but you can upgrade, otherwise I’d pick Tom Kerridges at the Corinthia or Murano but I don’t know how much the tasting menu is there.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 01/09/2022 14:38

I have walked past this so many times and wondered. Is it any good?

also Harry’s for the toadstool dessert

Davros · 01/09/2022 14:45

How about Café Colbert in Sloane Square? All day dining so go any time. It's the same group as the Wolseley and Zedel

NotLactoseFree · 01/09/2022 14:59

Personally, I'd go for something less formal if you're in the area.

I love Dehesa off Carnaby Street. And with a few plates of charcuterie.... well, you'll rack up the bill pretty quickly!

lenalove · 01/09/2022 15:01

Great suggestions by previous posters - Boisdale, Zedel and the Ivy. I would also add Cecconi's or Franco's or quality italian food in the Mayfair area.
