Looking to meet other mums in Leeds

Hi there,

I'm mum to 14 month old twins and I'm not planning on returning to work; so I'd really like to meet other mums in Leeds. It'd be great if you have a child(ren) who is/are under 2.

I'm 35 and enjoy going to groups, soft play, out for tea'n'chat and for walks with my girls.

It would be great to hear from you.

Take care,
Zoe

Hi ZTwins. I know it's a long time since your post but I have a 20 month old DS and was wondering if you're still looking to meet up with other mums? Hope to hear from you.

CookieMonster2 · 08/08/2010 21:31

If any meet-ups are being organised you can count me in!
My social life could do with sorting out generally though. Would anyone like to leave the kids at home with dh/dp and meet for a drink one evening? Headingly area would be good, if not city centre. Anyone interested?

Only looked at the Leeds forum for the first time recently and it seems to be very quiet on here.....

MummyWithA1Family · 09/08/2010 00:28

CookieMonster2 I'd love to meet up where do you live is it in Headingly? Do you have any children?

I'm 33 and have a 21 month old DS and have just found out I'm expecting another DC in April 2011. Would be lovely to meet up for a coffee with LO's to start with then maybe a night out as you said.

Hope to hear from you.

CookieMonster2 · 09/08/2010 09:56

I don't live in Headingly but its my nearest place with anything happening.

I have 2 children. My daughter is starting school in September and I have a 1 year old boy.

I can't think of anywhere in Headingly thats suitable to go with little kids. Where would be convenient for you? There is a soft play centre recently opened in Horsforth that I have been to a couple of times. Is that anywhere near where you are?

CookieMonster2 · 09/08/2010 10:07

I can't spell for toffee, just realised I have been spelling Headingley without an e.

CookieMonster2 · 09/08/2010 14:18

Sorry MummyWithA1Family, just read another thread and realised that Headingley and Horsforth are both a bit of a trek for you!

mistlethrush · 09/08/2010 14:59

There's a nice NCT coffee morning (just mums, no preaching!) that roves around the Headingley/Meanwood area that you might find good - meets on a Friday morning.

I might be on for a night out at some stage... depends on when and where and babysitting issues.

MummyWithA1Family · 10/08/2010 04:12

I don't really mind where we meet as I drive so not really a problem. The only thing that limits me a bit is my health which means mornings are usually out because it takes a while to get my pain under control.

Where do you live CookieMonster2 and MistleThrush? Maybe we can organise something central to us? The only thing I know of around Wetherby is a soft play in Thorp Arch but I guess it'll be over run in the school holidays.
Other than soft play areas etc how about a meet up say in the city centre for a coffee and stroll around shops etc? Obviously that would depend on whether the little ones would be happy with that. I know my ds would be as long as he sat in a highchair when we had a drink and then he's happy as anything in his buggy.
I'm open to almost anything even a trip to Tropical World at Roundhay Park etc.
It'll be so good for my ds to interact with other dc's as he's very wary of children his own age after a little boy the same age bit him quite hard hopefully he may get his confidence back. The only other dc's he plays with are quite a bit older than him and I really want him to get over his phobia of children his age, especially other boys.

Spirael · 10/08/2010 09:47

Morning! :) Can I join in with potential meet ups? I'm based over in Bramley, so Horsforth/Headingley isn't too bad for me to get to. I drive, so can get to other areas too.

However evening meet ups won't work for me at present, as DD (5 weeks tomorrow) loves to cluster feed all evening between about 6pm and 10pm, so I'm pretty much stuck to her at that time of day. Hmm

mistlethrush · 10/08/2010 10:19

Mine's at school - and I work full-time - so, whilst I would love to come on a daytime with baby in tow, its not really doable! I can make a coffee/lunch call in-town to meet up or a weekend with ds (5.4) with me (as long as there's somewhere to run around madly (for him) or an evening - either without children or with tinies that still need to be with mum.... The City Museum on Milenium square has a coffee shop... And I did, possibly 2 years ago, go to a MN picnic in Roundhay park that was rather nice - and some people came up from Wakefield....

Tropical world and the play centre at Thorp Arch would both be fine with me.

Thanks for the tip on the NCT group, I do already belong to an NCT group and can't make Friday mornings anyway. To be honest its my social life away from the kids that really needs sorting out. I appreciate that this probably isn't the best place but thought there might be some other Mums out there that were in my position.

BunnyLebowski · 10/08/2010 14:05

Cookie

I hear you about the non-kid social life thing and would definitely be up for a wee drink some time.

Email me on [email protected] Smile

Oh and I work in a pub in the city centre and get staff discount when I'm not working Wink

So it looks as though we have 2 potential meet-ups here:

  1. An evening meet up without the kids. Looks like its just me, BunnyLebowski and justaboutawinegumaholic, unless there is anyone else that would like to join us? I don't have a subscription to CAT I'm afraid, I was just hoping to organise it through this forum. Is the city centre the best location? Which pub is best to meet in? I'm not a fan of the trendy places and prefer the more traditional pubs but I'm open to suggestions. When is the best day? How about Thursday 19th August?

2)A meet-up during the day somewhere child friendly. Happy to go with either Tropical World or the soft play centre at Thorp Arch. Can someone suggest date?

Given that there are only 3 of us up for an evening out I would rather wait until we can all make it! Let us know when you are back home and hope you have a good holiday.

MummyWithA1Family · 11/08/2010 01:09

I'll be up for a mums only meet too. Let me know when and where and I'll be there! Prefer to meet outside the pub though as I've lost a lot of confidence since my poor health and don't feel comfortable walking into a pub without knowing who I'm meeting first. Guess that's why I initially suggested babes in tow as a sort of ice breaker. Oh I wish I had my confidence that I used to!

As for the plus little ones meet I can do almost anytime in an afternoon before 31st August then not for a couple of weeks after.

My email is [email protected] for those who want to organise off thread or who want a chat etc

Look forward to meeting you all x

Spirael · 11/08/2010 09:15

A trip to Tropical World is fine with me, I've been intending to go for years and never managed to make it! Presumably it's easy to push a pram around?

I'm not sure where the soft play centre is, so would need directions for there. I've never been to a soft play centre before... But I'm guessing that a 5 week old might be a little young to really get much out of it? Wink I'm happy to sit and chat at the sidelines though, probably while endlessly BFing if the last few days are anything to go by-!

I'm busy for the rest of this week (and it'd be kinda short notice anyway!) but the rest of August is pretty clear. Only days I can't do are Sundays.

mistlethrush · 12/08/2010 14:29

Hey - me too for an evening meet up! But not Thurs 19th.... - the following Thursday would be good for me though, as ds is staying with his grandma so no babysitting issues...

Justa - Amber can contact me, even if I can't find you in all the heaps of unread messages in my mail box!

First time I went to the soft-play at Thorpe Arch I got lost getting there - and I would say its really a bit better for 5+. The one near the ring road at Cookridge/West Park is probably better for under 5s - although that's not open to the public at the weekends as they run parties there.

Ds is 5, so I can bring him to a Saturday Tropical world meet up (yes, fine for prams) although we might end up going through twice and getting to the end at the same time as you Grin

If we're aiming for a 'pub' why not The Stables which is at the lawnswood roundabout - they've got seating out in the courtyard - its part of a hotel - we can arrange to loiter at an agreed place whilst everyone gets there - its not quite as daunting as a city centre bar or pub...? Althoguh the discount would be good Bunny! Perhaps that would be good when we've actually met up once?
