Oops just realised I have to cough up a fiver to contact everyone. Will get on and do that. I have counted 16 MNers who are interested.. Tuesday seems to be good for everyone; but I guess the first thing to do is agree on the book. Edam suggested the Guernsey Literary Potato and Peel Pie Society some time ago - is this ok with everyone? I'm happy to host the first one (Harpenden - corner of Piggotshill Lane and Wheathampstead Road) although by the time I've finished making tea and coffee for 16 people we could run out of time! Will have to get a samovar or something..

Okay I took a gamble on you lot and ordered the book on amazon - it has just arrived!

Loujalou · 04/08/2010 13:39

Hi - I've just moved to Harpenden and would love to join in. Please could you let me know when the next meet up will be & where. Look forward to it!

becslox · 28/09/2010 22:22

Hi I have just moved to Harpenden area, working full time with husband and two youngish boys. Would really like to meet other people outside of my work. Could obviously only make evenings but would be really keen to join and make new friends and maybe partake in the odd glass of wine. Hope someone can help.

becslox · 28/09/2010 22:23

Just wondered if you are still doing a book group? would love to see if i could join

SkiBumMum · 30/09/2010 12:57

Becslox - just sent you a PM. Hope it worked...

Loujalou · 01/10/2010 13:53

I am still interested.

GreatGooglyMoogly · 02/10/2010 10:46

I make it 19 people that have expressed an interest on this thread. There was an (off-board) suggestion earlier that we could maybe meet in restaurants rather than people's houses as then it is less disruptive for our families and also can accommodate a large number of people! What do people think of the idea? It would obviously mean that you would need to have someone to look after your DC at home on a Tuesday evening.

GreatGooglyMoogly · 02/10/2010 10:48

To clarify, I meant less disruptive for the host's family.

Loujalou · 02/10/2010 17:16

There is the British legion in harpenden. They are pretty accommodating. Also cheap for drinks. Will provide food and a room I think.

Loujalou · 15/10/2010 09:56

I killed the thread!

hintsandtips · 15/08/2011 21:56

Ok, thought I would 'revive' this thread and see what happened! I live in Wheathampstead (ish!) and would love to join a local book group. Did this one ever take off? Are there vacancies at any book groups locally? If not, would anyone else like to join a local (ish) book group? Smile

donttormentyoursister · 18/08/2011 12:19

Hi hintsandtips, I'm moving to Harpenden next week. I've no idea whether a book group materialised from the original thread, but I would love to join or (gulp) start a local one. Let me know if you're interested. Anyone else?!

sasza321 · 18/08/2011 20:52

hello, also moving to Harpenden. Would be interested in joining a local book group - once we have settled in!

ivylady · 27/09/2011 21:21

Hi - I have also recently moved to Harpenden, and would also love to join a local book group,
