Moving to Liverpool

mollymcguire · 18/08/2018 21:24

As the title says! We are thinking about making the move to Liverpool, could anyone recommend some nice areas, especially areas with a bigger Irish community, we are dreadfully unhappy where we are living currently and this move is important we get it right!

molly that’s disgraceful! I can’t believe in this day and age people are still being vilified due to their nationality etc,I’m so sorry you feel you have to up sticks because of (I sincerely hope) a minority of ignorant people. However, I’m sure you’ll be welcomed in your new environment.

Good luckSmileFlowers

Namechanger1404 · 25/08/2018 21:03

I’ve just googled Bold Street..I’m going to go for a weekend soonGrin

Cassimin · 25/08/2018 21:04

I live in the south of the city and wouldn't live anywhere else.
Lots of parks, close to airport, great transport links, lots of bars/ restaurants yet lovely and quiet and green.
New Brighton in fab. Lots of money been invested in the seafront in the last few years.
We often go there for a day out, you can get the ferry or drive.
Almost everyone has Irish heritage and there's probably more Irish students here than in Ireland!
Welcome and I hope you love living here as much as I do.

Zoflorabore · 25/08/2018 21:06

Let us know when you're here op, were due a Liverpool meet up, my dd was sick on the first one so I never went and was gutted.
Would love to meet you Flowers

mollymcguire · 25/08/2018 21:08

Aww thanks girls this move really feels right, would love a meet up! It's so hard to start again after the heartbreak of the last 2 years,

Halewood! Renting 3 bed properties in this area is around 700-800 P/M. Lovely area, shops and train stations near by, lots of schools & safe community. Woolton is 5 mins away with lovely bars and restaurants. Catholic school 10 mins away. Have lived here most my life and I wouldn't live anywhere else!

GreenTulips · 25/08/2018 21:21

I also love visiting Liverpool and may make the leap to live there one day.

I've always been around a lot of Irish people and can't say I have met one I didn't like! It's so sad your children have been put through this. I hope you'll be happy.

LARLARLAND · 25/08/2018 21:21

I am so pleased you are OK molly and I hope your move to Liverpool is a happy one.

HollowTalk · 25/08/2018 22:18

I think your dog might cause a problem, OP. Go to Right Move and search for Wallasey or New Brighton or Wallasey Village. St Mary's School (Catholic mixed secondary) is in Wallasey Village.

I would have a really good look around, though. There are plenty of places in Liverpool, too, which would work out well.

newbosunset · 25/08/2018 23:37

I'm sorry, I honestly don't want to sound like a right snooty cow, but ch44 wouldn't be an area I'd recommend to someone coming from out of town and not having had a chance to spend time in the neighbourhood. It's also not New Brighton so different primary school and bus rides or a long walk to the secondary.

Looking at rightmove, this would probably be the best located house imo www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-75144479.html#_full-description

Or the one with the spire...though that's got six bedrooms!!!!
www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-73798241.html

And this one is quite a nice area though it's a bit teensy www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-74467577.html

Don't get too hung up on parking though...it's not all that common to have off street parking in New Brighton, so you'll rule out an awful lot of great streets if you make it a 'must have'.

Good luck whatever you choose to do and wherever you choose to go.

newbosunset · 25/08/2018 23:41

Just realised I've linked three properties that all say no pets. Sorry OP.

HollowTalk · 25/08/2018 23:43

I agree with @newbosunset. I'd go for CH45. In fact if you focus on being near to either New Brighton, Wallasey Grove Road or Wallasey Village stations, you will be fine.

I agree, too, about parking - don't break your neck trying to find a house with a garage! Newer houses (1950s onwards) will have them, earlier ones won't. Parking isn't really a problem in most streets.

newbosunset · 25/08/2018 23:51

This one is a bit further away, but a nice area and handy for Birkenhead park with the dog and the Catholic secondary www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-74819777.html

mollymcguire · 26/08/2018 19:14

Girls any opinions on st Joseph's primary school and st Mary's secondary school

OP posts:
newbosunset · 26/08/2018 19:29

Sorry, no...but there is a Facebook group called Wallasey Gossip which has loads of lovely people who will help you out x

emsyj37 · 27/08/2018 13:08

I have a friend who went to Have you looked up the Ofsted report for St Joseph's? There are several excellent primary schools in Wallasey. In general the Wirral has a lot of very good schools.
My DH is from Wallasey (not Catholic tho) and it's a mixed area. His parents still live there. Whether you find it naice or rough probably depends what you're used to. We live in Meols which is 'posh' but I grew up in Birkenhead and think Wallasey is ok, there are some rough bits but you won't have any issues from being Irish or anything like that. You wouldn't anywhere around here to be honest - everyone has Irish family somewhere along the line (grandparents on my dad's side in my case, hence I had an Irish maiden name).

mollymcguire · 01/09/2018 21:08

Well girls tomorrow is Move day! We Liverpool bound! So excited !

OP posts:
LARLARLAND · 01/09/2018 21:13

Best of luck! Can you say where exactly you decided to move to? I hope you all enjoy your new lives.

Cousinit · 01/09/2018 21:23

How awful that your family has been persecuted for being Irish Sad. As others have said, you will find yourselves welcomed in Liverpool. Most Scousers have Irish roots! I'm actually a wee bit envious of you. If I could live anywhere in the U.K. (Am now overseas) it would be Liverpool. There's no other city quite like it. The people are lovely with the best sense of humour. (I'm a bit biased I guess but it's true!). Good luck and I'm sure you'll have no problem settling in Smile

mollymcguire · 01/09/2018 21:43

Thanks girls we just so happy to get away from here, 1 more night thank god then we off! We decided on Wallasey tbh the rental we got came quick and suited our needs, kids are happy, schools are in progress, will hopefully have them settled next week, hate the thoughts of the unpacking tho! But box by box xx

LoveMySituation · 03/09/2018 13:23

Great news OP, may see you around up there someday Grin

Flameless · 03/09/2018 15:06

Congratulations! Hope you'll be very happy!

antwaki · 03/09/2018 23:43

Congrats Molly!

mollymcguire · 12/09/2018 17:58

Just want to say thank you girls, we are so happy, we have settled, boys are getting on grand in school, hubby has found a job, I'm in no rush!! And above all the people are so nice, we can't understand it! It's foreign to us!!! Think we have found our place!
