Moving to Liverpool

As the title says! We are thinking about making the move to Liverpool, could anyone recommend some nice areas, especially areas with a bigger Irish community, we are dreadfully unhappy where we are living currently and this move is important we get it right!

Have lived in city centre, L17 and L18 since moving here 25 years ago - love it! The city is full of Irish descended people including me and never heard any bad vibes from anyone. The 3 unis attract large numbers of students from Ireland every year. Would recommend the south of the city for parks, pubs, transport links (15min drive to airport!) and schools. Good luck !

mollymcguire · 21/08/2018 20:04

Oh thank you all girls! We arrived just a while ago, sitting in a pub called The philharmonic having bit to eat and who we have met so far is just lovely!! Tomorrow we are checking out the Wirral area!

Oh wow Op, I hope you had a great time in the Phil, and on the Wirral. Antwaki I love your username Grin Is that how it's spelt?!

NC4Now · 22/08/2018 21:59

That’s one of my favourite pubs. The men’s looks are so fancy they are listed! It’s so grand. Enjoy your evening 😃

mollymcguire · 23/08/2018 12:37

Thanks girls!
We actually are loving Liverpool people actually smile, and the amount of people that have stopped to admire/chat too our dog is mad! We are liking new Brighton as a potential area to live, it's so exciting and it's so lovely to see my family happy

Flameless · 23/08/2018 12:55

I'm so pleased you like it here!!

MarthaArthur · 23/08/2018 12:59

Aintree. They have shops. Catholic secondary schools and primary schools and train station and is about 20 minutes from city center.

mollymcguire · 23/08/2018 21:05

@Flameless it's just lovely, cannot explain the difference to where we live to here, people actually smile and stop you in the street, our dog is like a little celeb here! Every ten steps we were stopped today people taking his pic! He is only a little pug! We walked the entire city today, I even got a mooch in Penney's (primark) it's some spot! Now to find a house and tie up loose ends at home and we will make the move! Our decision is made!!

OP posts:
Flameless · 23/08/2018 22:29

Yay! Well if you fancy a drink to celebrate when you're settled, give me a shout!

Flameless · 23/08/2018 22:30

Oh yes, if you end up around my neck of the woods I know some nice places to walk dogs too as I have one of my own x

leccybill · 23/08/2018 22:38

Welcome, glad you are enjoying it, it's a beguiling city for sure. Many come and never leave.
I'm of Irish descent and certainly in my profession (teaching), every other colleague is Irish, I'm so used to hearing the accent.
Where were you living before that was so hostile?

newbosunset · 23/08/2018 22:42

If you do end up in New Brighton it's worth mentioning that the boys Catholic Grammar in Birkenhead, St Anselms, is a wonderful school with great pastoral care.

There's also a lovely small catholic primary on the very top of the hill (st peter and paul) for your younger boy.

mollymcguire · 25/08/2018 18:56

Girls
Is anyone familiar to the gorsedale road area of the wirral/Wallasey just trying to check out the schools nearby, need a catholic primary and another one for year 7

OP posts:
HollowTalk · 25/08/2018 19:04

I'm in that area, @mollymcguire.

All of Wallasey is nice - New Brighton, too. The only Catholic primary I'm familiar with is St Peter and Paul but I know there are others. St Mary's College is the local Catholic secondary school, though there are Catholic grammar schools, too.

HollowTalk · 25/08/2018 19:07

Have you booked somewhere in Gorsedale Road? If not let me know and I'll do a search of rentals in your price range.

newbosunset · 25/08/2018 20:11

Personal view, I would swerve the CH44 postcode. There are some lovely people, and some nice roads, but there are others less nice.

What's your budget?

mollymcguire · 25/08/2018 20:26

@HollowTalk your a star no just a rental has become available in that street, we need 3 beds, have 1 dog, and parking! Possibly a garage or a garden shed,

OP posts:
mollymcguire · 25/08/2018 20:27

@newbosunset is it bad? The house we looking at is on that road, did a google map search looks ok, just we running out of time! Need to get the boys into school!

mollymcguire · 25/08/2018 20:29

Oh and apology's to anyone trying to get out of Liverpool yesterday we had the great luck of being road swiped on the motor way by a lorry! Our lovely car is a write off but thankfully we all ok, I heard they was 16 mile tail backs Blush

OP posts:
LARLARLAND · 25/08/2018 20:31

Oh goodness me. Thank God you are all OK. Was that on the M62?

PositivelyPERF · 25/08/2018 20:39

Oh I’m so jealous OP. DC2 lives there and my youngest and I often visit. I love it. The people are so friendly and welcoming. Bold Street is amazing for food. I put on 3 1/2lbs in six days. Blush

Dc2 has to move to Manchester for work and the difference in rental prices is awful.

Namechanger1404 · 25/08/2018 20:40

My friend will be moving up that way soon, she’s looking around port sunlight and surrounding areas.

I’m intrigued OP as to where you live now, I couldn’t imagine your accent being disliked, I’d be hanging on every wordSmile

mollymcguire · 25/08/2018 20:44

@LARLARLAND yes that was us!

OP posts:
mollymcguire · 25/08/2018 20:48

@Namechanger1404 I really shouldn't say, it's not so much the accent, it's the nationality, the link to the troubles, I'm southern Irish Catholic btw, the amount of times we have been called IRA terrorists, paddy's, southern scum, my kids get it in school, it's a military town, the specialist army guys here served in the north, we are having to close our business here down, massive loss to us, and try start again

OP posts:
mollymcguire · 25/08/2018 20:49

@PositivelyPERF we discovered bold street on Wednesday omg! We cannot wait to go back!!!
