Following on from the friend-making thread in chat, here is a thread for Surrey-dwellers to chat and perhaps arrange a meet-up :)

Amazingly there were only about 3 Surrey people on that thread Shock but all welcome :)

Hello! Have you changed username? Thanks for setting it up, I'm far too novice on my phone!!

JHH15 · 10/08/2015 22:01

Yeah I'm bree! Have you?? Have we been PMing?

OP posts:
JessicaMLH · 10/08/2015 22:39

Argh that's weird! Must be a local site thing! It is indeed me Grin

JessicaMLH · 10/08/2015 22:41

Ah, it seems you can't change your local username from the first one Confused well I guess you know my name now haha

mummyrunnerbean · 11/08/2015 08:50

Hello both! PMing is driving me mad - keep typing replies then losing them. I'm SisterSage - glad to see I'm not the only namechanger! Good idea to set this up!

Cheesyslice · 11/08/2015 08:52

Hi folks

I'm not on the other thread but am in Surrey - can I join in? Grin

JHH15 · 11/08/2015 09:17

Hi everyone!

Course you can Cheese! Whereabouts in Surrey are you? I've just moved to Godalming from London.

OP posts:
JessicaMLH · 11/08/2015 10:06

Hello Sage/Bean! I tried to reply all and then realised several messages later it was only going to Bree - so glad we could move it over here Smile

Hi cheese! I'm in Farnham.

How are you all? I'm surprised there aren't more Surrey mums about, there's about 30 people from Glasgow meeting up on that thread Shock

Cheesyslice · 11/08/2015 11:34

Thanks!

I'm in Dorking

JHH I'm jealous - I love Godalming.

JHH15 · 11/08/2015 13:01

Dorking, ok! I am just learning where all these places that I only know as train stops are in relation to each other!

I'm going to do a little fact file about myself (used to love doing these when I was little):

Age: 25
Lives: Godalming
Family: DH (28) and DS (11 weeks)
Occupation: self employed celebration cake maker, pre-DS!
Likes: singing, exercise, chatting, cooking, online shopping, patchwork quilting (yeesh I hope I don't sound boring!), fun things...? Confused
Dislikes: muggy weather, real-life shopping, when DS wails in his car seat
Favourite food: the humble yet versatile potato

Feel free to do your own although I realise I've basically totally outed myself! Although I doubt I know any MNers :)

Cheesy we're actually in Farncombe, I never know if that's an area of Godalming or a totally different, very-close-by village. More modern houses which we chose as they offer more space than we could afford in Godders!

mummyrunnerbean · 11/08/2015 17:55

Hello Cheesy! I'm sneaking onto this thread as Aldershot's technically in Hampshire but the Surrey border's about two minutes drive from my flat.

I'm going to copy JH'S idea (also used to love these). So:

Age: also 25
Lives: Aldershot
Family: DH (27) and DS (just 1)
Occupation: medical student and occasional private tutor
Likes: music, reading, cooking and baking (though am having to relearn baking since I got diagnosed with coeliac disease), various crafty things, going to museums/ galleries, gardening (though currently hampered by not having a garden), sci-fi Blush cycling and walking. Also trying to get back into a little bit of gentle jogging running post-DS. God I sound middle-aged.
Dislikes: the ear-splitting shriek DS does if he has to wait too long for ANYTHING, cleaning and feet
Favourite food: genuinely impossible to say as all food is good food Cake

JHH15 · 11/08/2015 18:36

Ooh mummyrunnerbean (Mummy? Runner? Bean? Not sure what to shorten you to Grin), didn't realise Aldershot wasn't in Surrey, sorry, didn't want to exclude you!

A medical student! Wow! Do you know what job you want to do ultimately? How much more studying do you have to go?

I am in awe, I can barely write an essay. Didn't go to uni, did a singing course instead and then ended up working in a call centre for 3 years haha! Grin they were pretty grim days actually Hmm

OP posts:
JessicaMLH · 11/08/2015 18:46

My phone is not cooperating and I've already done this once, but trying again Angry

Love Dorking, cheesy! Used to live in reigate.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis mummy, dd2 had a wheat and cow's milk allergy until around 20 months, it was so hard to cook for her, having to rejig all recipes etc!

Just realised we are (so far) all 25!

Age: 25
Lives: Central Farnham
Family: DH (almost 27) and two dds aged 2 and nearly 5 (next week actually)
Occupation: SAHM for the last 6 years, boring customer service jobs before that.
Likes: baking, reading, watching cooking type shows, general crap tv, country walks, sci-fi and fantasy tv/film/books, going for coffee (with or without people haha), fruity ciders, chatting incessantly, looking for brilliant things in charity shops (I've picked that one up from my mum)
Dislikes: hot weather, spiders and most bugs, mushrooms, cleaning, when my children whine endlessly about nothing, when my cat leaves mouse body parts in the garden Envy
Favourite food: too hard to pick! Chinese, steak and buttery cabbage with a side of tiramisu and grapes and chocolate this is why I'm overweight Grin

JessicaMLH · 11/08/2015 18:53

I always forget Aldershot isn't in Surrey as it's our nearest town! Right on the border.

I too am in awe, I don't know how you have the energy for a baby and studying, it's amazing! I worked in a call centre for 2 years before I had Dd1, totally grim. Worst job ever actually (silver lining is it was inbound calls not sales, but that's a slim silver lining...)

JHH how long were you selling your cakes for professionally? My best friend and I are thinking of going into business in a couple of years once dd2 is in school and not driving me mental

JHH15 · 11/08/2015 19:06

Yes I was inbound customer care too thank god, I could not do cold calling! That job made me despise the general public which was sad! Don't feel that way any more thankfully but am always overly nice to call centre people!

I set up baking from home May 2014, so only about 11 months before stopping to have DS, but am desperate to get going again! Absolutely loved every aspect of it - baking and decorating obviously but even dealing with the council, doing accounts etc, I love it! Want to get back into it but can't even put DS down at the moment so don't think it will happen for a while. Also want to have DC2 pretty pronto and power through the baby years, but then hopefully once I get back into work I can get back into it for good!

I worked for other bakeries before I set up by myself - to escape the call centre actually, I emailed eddy bakery in London (literally) begging for unpaid work experience. Ended up getting hired and then training up other people, running classes, delivering around London etc. I also did 2 internships myself. Ah, happy days!

OP posts:
JHH15 · 11/08/2015 19:07

*every not eddy!

OP posts:
JessicaMLH · 11/08/2015 19:27

Haha yes they must know the ex-workers as we're probably the nicest ones to them! I cringe hearing dh's mum call call centres, she's so rude I often have to leave the room!! She used to work in a similar job so you'd think she'd be more sympathetic, but it just made her more annoyed when they make mistakes >sigh<

Wow that is sheer dedication, I am Shock but what wonderful experience for you! My friend and I are just home bakers but hoping to hone our skills over the next year or two and see where it goes...

Good plan on having the babies close together, I thought ours was the perfect age gap but now keep wishing they were closer together or further apart.

JHH15 · 12/08/2015 12:10

You should do it, it's so fun and great to be your own boss!

DS is being tricky today - doesn't want to be picked up, put down, fed, put on playmat, sleep, be carried in sling, put in pushchair... :( don't knw what to do!

OP posts:
JessicaMLH · 12/08/2015 12:47

Aww it's hard when they're being grumpy about everything Sad could you go for a drive? (if he settles in the car, dd1 loved it, dd2 hated it!)
Is he teething maybe? Or just having one of those nightmare days?

JHH15 · 12/08/2015 13:13

He screams in his car seat, haha! Aaaagh. Believe it or not he is generally very happy and chilled. Managed to get him to nap on our bed but I'm currently lying here with him - he only ever naps on me, we are working on it!! Accidentally created this habit and now he's a Velcro baby :-/ so am trying to teach him to sleep elsewhere so I can do stuff like go to the loo, clean etc, haha!

Did you enjoy the baby days generally? Are you done having babies do you think, or planning more?

OP posts:
JHH15 · 12/08/2015 13:14

Yeah maybe he is teething!! Wow no idea that could happen so soon. He is growing so fast!

OP posts:
JHH15 · 12/08/2015 14:18

By the way we have all said we like baking (except Cheesy, Cheeeeesy! Come back!). We can have a baking party haha Cake

OP posts:
JessicaMLH · 12/08/2015 14:54

Haha awww well at least you can have an accidental nap there too Grin

I had two Velcro babies for various reasons, and a very messy house for a few years! I really enjoyed the baby stage with Dd1, she was such an angelic baby in comparison to dd2! With dd2 I had pnd and ptsd from the birth, and she had undiagnosed wheat and milk allergy until 12 months old, but since then it's been much better Smile

I think we'd like one more (that would be my 3rd c section so I wouldn't want to do it again) but not for a few years haha.

Are you already trying for dc2? Do you just want two or would you like more?

I know it goes so quickly doesn't it - at least he wasn't one of the babies born with teeth already Shock

Has he settled down a bit now? Maybe grab some bonjela next time you're out if you don't have any. It's horrible when they're crying and you don't know why! Although it sometimes still happens with my 4yo hmm....

Omg a baking party sounds amazing! Come back cheesy, we need to know if you bake Cake

JHH15 · 12/08/2015 15:37

Wow sorry to hear about your traumatic birth!!! Sounds like you've had a bumpy time with DD2 Flowers thank goodness the allergy went away, what a pain that would have been!

We aren't trying for DC2 yet, I have to have physio and gynae referrals after my labour so nothing has happened in that department yet Grin sorry if tmi. But DH is in agreement that we don't want large gaps. But then they say you should have at least 18 months between pregnancies to allow your body to heal. Sooooo we shall see.

DS ended up sleeping for 1.5hrs which is amazing!!! I escaped for the last half hour :) now it's an hour since he woke up and he's fallen asleep feeding. He's always been a catnapper, can't wait until we get into the 2 nap a day routine that all other babies seem to have. I am over sitting holding him all day, but I try and take it as a compliment that he wants to be with me all the time Grin I cannot imagine doing this with an older child to look after (although I still want to) so hats off to you!!
