Hi everyone. Currently live on fylde coast but will be relocating to Cumbria in the next couple of months. i have a little boy who is nearly three. Looking at areas at the moment but thinking around Kendal area. We are staying in Milnthorpe soon to check out local areas more closely.

What is it like to live around the kendal area?
good schools?
toddler activities?
is it easy to meet new people?

scared but excited :-)

Hallgarth is more 'rough around the edges' than def avoid, there's better places to live and worse ones. It's worth a drive through in school Hols/weekends to see what you think.

All the schools seem good. St Thomas , Stramongate & Ghyllside are the ones I've dealt with more and all are popular & IME good , def pastorally. St Thomas and Stramongate have been oversubscribed in the last few years so make sure you're in catchment if you want them. I'm not sure about Ghyllside.

If your hubby is commuting bear in mind the proximity of the station or quickest route out of town by road.

The Oaks, Natland, Heron Hill, Kendal Parks probably best. He might struggle getting off Vicarage or Sandylands at peak times.

Kendal traffic is probably the worst thing about the place Angry Angry

Do you know which side of town you need to be? Or using roads/M6/trains? Or in the centre to walk to work?

Helloall1 · 31/10/2013 21:22

Anywhere apart from the areas suggested not as nice ... We are flexible. Sorry i posted twice

Just buying a house in South Lakes, so interested to read this. My 3 are much older though - youngest 20 now. Our house needs a lot doing to it, so we will be spending a couple of years backwards and forwards. Really like the look of Kendal as a town - seems to have really got better over the years.

Helloall1 · 04/02/2014 10:12

Got house viewings booked on 20th.....excited!!

Don't know yet! We only found out two days ago that he'd got the job. We are going up this weekend for a look around. I've never even been to the area before !

Helloall1 · 13/02/2014 19:55

I have had loads of great advice from people on here about areas :-). We really liked milnthorpe but have decided on kendal and surrounding villages. We are coming up again next week to view some houses....can't wait :-)

Good luck - its very exciting! We will both be newbies

We will hopefully exchange on our house in Arnside next week. We need to pop up there to check all is ok after the storms before we sign. Looking forward to getting the house sorted out - needs loooooooads doing to it
.

holmessweetholmes · 15/02/2014 10:50

Hi Mumof3 - am on my way up there right now!

mumof3teens · 15/02/2014 11:43

Ooh photos please :)

holmessweetholmes · 18/02/2014 18:36

I didn't take many actually! Will post the ones from Arnside Knott when I'm not on my phone though. It was lovely up there!

mumof3teens · 18/02/2014 19:07

Oh good. We are still a bit wobbly. I know it is lovely up there though. Glad you liked it.

Helloall1 · 20/02/2014 17:41

Hello :-)

Been in Kendal all day viewing houses pheewwww been a long day and very interesting! Out of six, we liked two so back soon to look again - EXCITING!

I cant believe how quick houses go, think we are going to struggle to snap one up!

The ring road next to station was gridlocked each time we passed it, I thought it would only be busy at peak times.

Hope everyone is well.

Sounds great Hello. What was the weather like? Are you renting still or buying?

holmessweetholmes · 20/02/2014 20:27

Sounds good. We can't find any houses we'd buy atm. All the ones I really like are a bit too in the middle of nowhere - as in actually not in a village, but a mile outside one, with no shop etc. Ah well, we have until summer.

mumof3teens · 21/02/2014 10:15

Off up to Arnside again tomorrow to check for any damage before we sign. Hope the weather is as lovely as it is today. Booths for lunch and poss Leighton Moss, now that I have joined RSPB!
