Hi there,

We are relocating to York from the south coast and could do with some help on areas, its so far to just pop up!

Ideally we would like to be in a village outside of york but we have 3 kids (ages 8, 4 and 3) so would need nearby football clubs, cubs, rainbows etc.

I will be working at the hospital, strange hours so I will also need a local childminder so cant be anywhere too remote and my husband will be working covering a large area travelling around leeds, harrogate, york, so being near the motoway network would be good.

And obviously we would like good schools but dont want to pay over the top prices, lol. We want everything hey!

We are coming up for 2 days in August to look around a bit so any advice on where to concentrate on looking would be a great help! So far we only have Wistow and a few other villages near Selby and Wilberfoss on the list? Any thoughts?

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd really appreciate any help!

Homestead Park!!

I was trying the remember the name hana, thank you!

We went a few years ago when my boys were a lot smaller.

Is it geared up for both oder and younger children? I cannot remember.

bellavita · 03/08/2011 21:33

Fingers crossed Lawrie.

Northernlurker · 03/08/2011 21:46

I think the Homestead is pretty good for all ages tbh. Lots of space to run around and some more challenging climbing frames as well as the nice little ones area. Also the heltershelter - LOVE that Grin

Shall we have some york property hunting then?

Hanahsaunt - lack of gardens in central locations is the major issue in York househunting!

bellavita · 03/08/2011 21:50

I tell you where looks really lovely, but I bet they cost ££££ - The Groves.

LawrieMarlow · 03/08/2011 21:51

Just been out to look at devastated Dunnington and there is one massive tree down. And judging by the vast amounts of large branches on the sides of roads there were some other fairly big ones down as well. Workmen were just leaving as I looked but the village green is very covered in tree. Must have been v scary for the people near by.

bellavita · 03/08/2011 22:00

Hope they get it sorted Lawrie.

Northernlurker · 03/08/2011 22:18

The Groves is nice and houses aren't too expensive BUT practically nothing has a garden or off street parking and there are a LOT of student houses.

Quinquagesima · 03/08/2011 22:23

Ooh, exciting. Can we start house-hunting, wickedone? MN found me a great one when we relocated. Grin

Northernlurker · 03/08/2011 22:24

ok....

For 675 000 (ouch) you could get this

20 minute walk in to York, garden, looks a little interesting

This is in Lawrie's (recently weather nuked) neck of the woods

here

this is just outside the ring road

Quinquagesima · 03/08/2011 22:26

I think the 675K one was for sale when we bought ours nearly 2 years ago. Ho, hum.

Quinquagesima · 03/08/2011 22:27

I like the Earswick one, though. I'd have fancied that myself if we hadn't needed to be within striking distance of the centre.

Northernlurker · 03/08/2011 22:29

very central but no garden Sad

GARDEN and in the Groves Grin

Northernlurker · 03/08/2011 22:30

Quin - did you buy on Tadcaster Road? I think I remember your threads if so.....Grin

LawrieMarlow · 03/08/2011 22:32

The one near me has been for sale for ages (before June last year at any rate). It's on a main road, although set back from it obviously. Would be a weird place to live I think - you can't walk to anywhere from there.

OP please come back :) I feel we have taken over your thread somewhat Grin

Northernlurker · 03/08/2011 22:33

this has been on the market for a while and is good value. Garden is at the front though - don't think there's much at the back. At the back is the railway line and at the front is a v busy road.

Northernlurker · 03/08/2011 22:34

this is also good value in a really nice street.

bellavita · 03/08/2011 22:34

The Groves is cheaper than I thout Grin

I liked that first one in Muncastergate - wherever that is?

Northernlurker · 03/08/2011 22:36

The 675 one? Muncastergate is off Malton Road, near the golf course. It's a great street - no through road so quietish and not too far from the city centre and no I don't live there! Grin

LawrieMarlow · 03/08/2011 22:37

This one has also been sale since before last June. What they don't make so clear is that the flowers you can see are right outside the church. And the church has a loud bell that chimes every hour. Also it is on the corner of a road that people whizz round a little, so a bit of a pain to get out of. A bit overpriced I think.

Northernlurker · 03/08/2011 22:38

That is expensive considering the location and the garden is grim!

LawrieMarlow · 03/08/2011 22:40

There's some weird photography going on in that Muncastergate one. The grandfather clock looks very odd. And why is there a picture of ovens?

LawrieMarlow · 03/08/2011 22:42

Other houses here are selling pretty quickly at the moment. There's a lot of 60s and 70s and some 80s houses due to the university starting in the 1960s which are more reasonably priced. That one I linked to could well have been for sale for even longer - I moved here last June so only know until then.

OP can we know your budget please ?Smile

bellavita · 03/08/2011 22:44

Yes NL the 675. Ah, I have just read the spec to go with it... I should have done that in the first place... I now know where I am!

Northernlurker · 03/08/2011 22:45

the op has obviously run screaming from us mad york house ladies Grin

Quinquagesima · 03/08/2011 23:11

Yes, NL, that is me. Grin
