April would be too early for a lot of the stuff in Central Oregon as many of the roads in the mountains don't even open till Memorial Day! Same with Crater Lake I believe. June is a good month for it not being too hot and there still being a little snow around.

whiteflame · 13/02/2011 19:40

Well that's good news because June would be a lot more convenient!

Portland. Portland isn't easy, I realized. I can tell you a lot to do if you have kids, but I really don't think Portland is much of a destination town. Not much here that you couldn't find anywhere else. All I've come up with is going out the Gorge to Bonneville dam, and the zoo. IIRC, Seattle doesn't have a very good zoo. Otherwise, I suffer from a terrible case of Seattle envy.

Portland has a pretty good restaurant scene. If you're not a veggie/vegan, Laurelhurst Market and Beast are good. Our favorite restaurant is Le Pigeon, kind of modern French? We both vote for it as having the best meal we've ever had in our lives. Pine State Biscuits is good for biscuits. I like them and I'm not even a biscuit fan. There's a ton of really good food carts around. There's a restaurant we haven't been to called Gruners (not sure of the spelling) that we haven't been to, but it was named one of the 10 best new restaurants in the country. The best pizza I've ever had is at Apizza Scholls. It gets really busy there, so we always go before they open to stand in line to make sure we get a table.

Not very helpful, am I? Is there anything else you want to know. I seem to be suffering from a lack of focus this week.

tadjennyp · 15/02/2011 22:09

Multnomah Falls are really nice though, along the gorge. We tend to do just OMSI and the zoo/children's museum and IKEA when we go to Portland. [shame]

tadjennyp · 15/02/2011 22:09

Well I meant Blush , but you know what I mean!

MmeBucket · 15/02/2011 22:13

Yes! That is what I forgot. Multnomah Falls.

PenguinArmy · 16/02/2011 10:24

awwww about the dog mmebucket

jabberwocky · 16/02/2011 13:50

I told dh again that I reallllly want a dog. Looks like it will be this summer at the earliest :(

MmeBucket · 16/02/2011 15:25

I was the one putting my foot down I didn't want a dog for the longest time, Jabber. Everyone I know was pretty amazed how much I loved our other one. DH is laughing at me right now, because I'm already saying that I want to get another one in a few months.

fridakahlo · 16/02/2011 15:41

Jabberwocky what is it about these anti-dog husbands. It's not like they will have the responsibility! I have the rescue leaflet posted on the fridge, and I will grind him down.
We will have to get a fence put in if we want to rescue though so I guess I should look at that side of things first.

jabberwocky · 16/02/2011 16:04

frida, I feel your pain. I found have found three rescue dogs that I would have loved to have gotten (well, I mean any one of them, lol) but dh just isn't "ready" :( We do need a fence but I plan to take the dog to the office with me during the day so dh really won't be at home babysitting the dog all day.

Grinding down is underway at our house too Wink

whiteflame · 16/02/2011 22:04

thanks for the suggestions mmebucket & tadjennyp, we'll definitely check out the Multnomah Falls Smile

kickassangel · 16/02/2011 22:17

dh got allergy tested yesterday & cats & dogs came out as high. we already kind of knew that, but it just confirms that we'll never have any. we used to have a cat, but when she got old & sick dh wasn't able to stay in the house for more than an hour or two. it's not really convenient for him, (after all, he likes to sleep here), so there will be no furry pets!

i have to admit, part of me is relieved not to have the bother, but i do miss having a cat.

PenguinArmy · 17/02/2011 16:30

how do you get allergy tested i.e where do you go?

kickassangel · 17/02/2011 22:50

dh got referred by his gp.

he had 30 little holes in his back, each labelled, and then 7 injections in his upper arm.

the pen labels are NOT coming off his back (snigger)

MmeBucket · 18/02/2011 01:30

If you all will indulge me for a brief second. . .

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!

Thank you. As you were.

tadjennyp · 18/02/2011 06:46

Feel better now? Shock

MmeBucket · 18/02/2011 15:09

A little bit.

tadjennyp · 18/02/2011 18:09

Hope it's not a major crisis and can be solved by a lovely long Presidents' Day weekend!

MmeBucket · 18/02/2011 20:11

No. It was just the combination of DH calling me and telling me his meeting was running late and that I would have to start of coaching basketball, trying to get everything ready to leave for our trip, realizing that I don't have a whole lot of clothes for upscale Napa Valley dining, and freaking out about leaving the kids for a week, when I've only ever been away from them for less than 24 hours.

tadjennyp · 18/02/2011 22:44

Ooh, Napa - have a lovely time Grin

mdavza · 19/02/2011 07:11

Hi there, I'm on page 16 of the thread, it's very interesting, informative reading.

It seems as if I'll be joining this thread permanently. My Dh is still, what we think of, in the process of finding out figures and details about a deal that would entice us over, and then yesterday, we heard that the England office that he used to work for (we live in Scotland) is closing, and the big boss had told one of the guys there that we are relocating?! I told DH maybe they're going to offer us so much money that they think we won't refuse Grin...or they might fire him if he doesn't Hmm
But we've decided to go for it, while DS is still young, and see it as a temporary adventure.

I'm keeping a map of the USA open as I read this thread, fascinating to see where everybody comes from.

tadjennyp · 19/02/2011 18:58

Good luck with your decision mdavza. Adventure is great, especially when dcs are young.

jabberwocky · 20/02/2011 16:07

Will be interested to see where you land, mdavza!

Mme, Napa....Envy

PenguinArmy · 20/02/2011 21:44

so is it long weekend this weekend? If so Grin I was going to take Monday off anyway but now I won't feel guilty and I don't have to make up the day (not that my boss actually believes in not working bank holidays, but he doesn't outwardly order you to work them)
