Can I vote against the juice fast?

I'll send warm thoughts so it warms up. Does your DH take a flight directly into Bend?

ClimberChick · 28/11/2010 05:40

juice fast? Confused

jabberwocky · 28/11/2010 14:59

lol, I haven't been able to get into the mindset for a juice fast anyway. It just took soooo long to lose the last 10 pounds from ds2 (who is FOUR now Blush) that I am really paranoid about gaining weight again.

tadjennypumpkinpie · 28/11/2010 17:10

dh is home safely now. Fortunately Redmond airport is at a lower elevation than Bend so there is usually a lot less snow there!

I found WW really helpful last year jabberwocky and managed to lose 25lbs. Then I got pregnant again! Grin

jabberwocky · 29/11/2010 13:17

I think with the slower metabolism of being, ahem, over 40 I am on a permanent calorie counting diet. One meal a day seems to do the trick [sceptical]

jabberwocky · 29/11/2010 13:17

oops, that was

Hmm
kickassangel · 29/11/2010 13:26

hi, hope you all enjoyed thanksgiving.

the news in the uk said that friday was called 'black friday' cos it's when shops went from being in the red to in the black. i had assumed that it was a more metaphorical black - reflecting the generally grim experience of shopping in the sales.

flew in last night from heathrow - dd woke me up at 4.40 am!!! for some reason i didn't get to sleep til after midnight, so am exhausted, have HUGE amounts of tidying/painting/laundry/other housework, but have to head to the dentist in an hour for some emergency treatment - eek!! i may just ignore the piles of housework & take to my bed after going to the dentist.

no snow here OR where we were in blighty - we seem to have slipped through a hole in the clouds somehow.

MmeBucket · 29/11/2010 19:19

Glad that everyone and their DH's are home safely.

Please don't tell me over 40 brings a slower metabolism, I only have a few good years of eating left.

tadjennypumpkinpie · 29/11/2010 19:50

I have less than 2 years then, and half of that will be either pregnant or breastfeeding! Help! I don't know how you manage on one meal jabber as I feel sick and dizzy if I don't eat regularly! Were you in Pioneer Square at the weekend bucket? Sounds scary. Hope you are ok.

MmeBucket · 29/11/2010 21:16

I don't know how you manage on one meal, either. I would be unbearable to live with if I did that.

No, we weren't there. I live just on the edge of Christmas tree country, so there's always lots of little cute things to go to around here that are on a smaller scale, but less crowded. I was busy bathing the dog and cleaning out my fridge, which I always do after we eat up all the Thanksgiving leftovers, because I get all paranoid about what defrosting the turkey germs are in there.

jabberwocky · 30/11/2010 00:21

It took some getting used to but now I'm OK with it. Coffee this morning, usually something like part of a Green Goodness drink for lunch but today I had a ham sandwich so will try to do a light snack of something with a hint of healthy in it Grin

lol, kickass, yes this is historically when most stores see their profit for the year.
Hope dentist visit went OK.

kickassangel · 30/11/2010 01:03

i am suitably impressed with US dentistry - and even more convinced that the NHS is low budget health care. i know it's fantastic for when you're really in need, and worry about what would happen if dh didn't have health care through work, but i have suffered a lot of pain under the hands of nhs dentists, and would be several teeth better off, if i'd had a better dentist before now.

i never even knew that they could numb the skin BEFORE sticking a needle in to give an injection - i barely felt the 3 he gave me, normally i'm climbing out of my seat at that point.

personally, i've accepted that if i want to eat 3 times a day (or more) that i will be larger-than-average. i get v low blood pressure & black out too easily if i don't eat, and i enjoy eating, so i'm aiming for 'fat but fit' - with low cholesterol & healthy heart rate. i just could never eat as little as that, jabber. i do go to the gym & walk quite a lot, and what i eat is healthy, but i HAVE to eat or i get cold, miserable & ill. well, that's my excuse, anyway.

btw, i had a crap metabolism well before age 40. if you're ok now, you may well be ok for a while, i haven't noticed my weight getting any worse since hitting 40, and i gave up work around the same time.

MmeBucket · 30/11/2010 01:22

Did you get any work with the laser instead of the drill, kickass? I love the laser instead of the drill.

DH says I fall into the "deceptively not fit" category. I seriously need to do anything resembling exercise, but I never seem to find the time to. My metabolism will get the best of me soon, I feel.

kickassangel · 30/11/2010 13:08

lasers? you have lasers?

back in the uk they still have hamsters running in a wheel to power the wooden drill.

jabberwocky · 30/11/2010 23:56

Our dentist in TN had all the absolute latest in high-tech. Dh loved it. He needed a crown and they did everything in one visit as the computer took all the measurements and told the machine or whatever how to make the crown. Put it on and he was through!

I guess I should add over 40 and hypothryoidism which, even with proper meds, still slows down metabolism ime. I think people generally know what's best for them and I was definitely eating more than I needed to before. I don't ever let myself go hungry or feel weak from low blood sugar or anything like that. I have just finally noticed what it really takes to make me feel satisfied and it's a lot less than I used to eat.

MBucket, we are probably the same. I have been leery of working out since this herniated disc so muscles are very out of shape Blush

kickassangel · 01/12/2010 16:09

my dentist fancies himself as a bit of a comedian, and tries to make the experience 'fun'. i just want him to shut up & do the job. actually, so far it's been pretty good & now i have a temp filling for 2 weeks til the overlay is ready - just in time for christmas.

tadventjennyp · 01/12/2010 17:54

I haven't had any work done for 10 years so don't have a clue about new technology. That was just a wisdom tooth extraction as well! Must make an appointment with a dentist before the end of the year to use the benefit.

MmeBucket · 01/12/2010 20:07

Today started my new volunteer work at DS' school. Instead of doing my 30 minutes a week hanging out in the media room, I am now at 2 mornings a week working with the kids one-to-one. Not only am I back with the kids, I have my own personal binder. It is all mine. Not even the teacher uses it. I can bring it home with me and arrange it however I want.

tadventjennyp · 01/12/2010 21:06

There's nothing irrational about being happy! Congratulations!

tadventjennyp · 02/12/2010 22:44

Hurray, heading for California at the weekend. Never been before, so very excited. Going to stay in Milpitas for a few days as dh has to work but then heading into San Francisco. Any ideas on what to do with a 3 year old and an almost 5 year old (bearing in mind I am 7 months pg now)?

kickassangel · 03/12/2010 02:40

go on the trams. go DOWN the wiggly road.
go to pier erm ... the one with 'stuff' on it.

could try going to alcatraz, but you have to book that in advance.

go to the golden gate bridge, and walk on it (not all the way), there's a nice park near there as well, with japanese gardens.

last time i was there in dec, was warm enough to wear t-shirt & denim jacket, but there can be a cool mist blown in from the sea.

bucket - wait til you get a DESK as well, you'll be dizzy from spinning around.

redflipflops · 03/12/2010 21:35

Hello everyone. Been away most of November. Went back to UK and then family trip to San Diego over Thanksgiving.

tad Golden Gate Park has a brilliant children's playground. Can also row boats on the lake. Fisherman's Wharf area was very commercial but OK for kid friendly meal. Exploratorium good - but maybe your kids on the young side?

Thanks for the tips, girls, will have a search for them on the internet!

jabberwocky · 08/12/2010 02:04

tad, very Envy You will have a wonderful time no matter what! I love going to Little Italy to eat great food and Chinatown to wander around, look and buy unusual things.

MmeBucket · 08/12/2010 02:47

You have to tell me where you like to go there, Jabber. DH and I are getting a trip to ourselves this February, and we're going to Napa Valley, but we're flying into SFO, and staying there a night, and I absolutely HATE that city. (I'm the only person on the planet I know that does, though.) Obviously I haven't been going to the right places.
