Climber where are you again?

ClimberChick · 30/10/2010 04:14

santa barbara

CheerfulYank · 30/10/2010 04:18

Oh. Well, damn. I was going to say "I
ll be your friend!" But CA and MN are kind of far apart... :)

The book store where I work part time is open late tonight for a Lady's Night Out, so I'm hanging out and watching youtube videoes of House and Cuddy kissing doing many serious and important things. Blush

hornedtoadjennyp · 30/10/2010 04:37

I imagine your local shopping mall will have a trick or treat thing on Sunday Climber. All the little ones will be able to get candy from the shops (not that yours will want any!) Check your local news website. You've only been here four months, haven't you? Plenty of time to make friends, especially if you're always working 12 hour days! [hshock]

I love House Cheerful!

CheerfulYank · 30/10/2010 05:01

I know, it's great! I'm actually terrified of meeting Hugh Laurie because I would gush and then die. Probably not in that order. :)

kickassangel · 30/10/2010 15:36

climber - if she's only 8 months, i wouldn't bother, but people here do. just about everywhere will have a 'babygro' type thing in various styles of costume.

find out what your local mall is doing, ours is doing it today at 5-7. some of the shops hand out things for mums too!

hornedtoadjennyp · 31/10/2010 23:39

We had a pumpkin carving do with some friends last night and the little ones decorated the chocolate cupcakes with orange icing too! Only one American there though and she's not even 2 yet (our Chinese neighbours' little girl). It was a lot of fun and the dcs amused themselves a lot so the adults could have a conversation. We went trick or treating at a shopping district by the river today and I have never seen so many little ones in costume! Ds was overwhelmed though so we came home after an hour. Hope everyone else is having a great Hallowe'en. [hsmile]

dooneygirl · 31/10/2010 23:41

No, not at 8 months. I can't stand it when parents are out TOTing and all they have is a baby that can't eat candy.

We're getting ready to go to friends (only 3 blocks away) who have a DS that is friends with our DS. Small party, then we're all going to take the kids out together. Just took the dog for a walk, and the neighborhood is getting crazy. People are setting up graveyards with live actors, and setting up a zombie scene complete with music and smoke machines. Can't wait!

jabberwocky · 01/11/2010 01:03

Fabulous decorations on our street! And a really adorable 1 year old Darth Vader. One house was making cotton candy and ds2 pronounced it to be the best thing in the universe [hgrin]

Earlybird · 01/11/2010 02:21

We had a wonderful time. Saw witches, werewolves, superman, knights, football players, egyptian princesses, ladybugs, butterflies, etc.

Lovely warm night.

Dd is shattered but happy, and my feet hurt!

ClimberChick · 01/11/2010 02:52

Next year I want to do a proper American Halloween, pumpkin patch, go to a party and general soak in the atmosphere. I consider this my induction year Grin

hornedtoadjennyp · 01/11/2010 02:57

Your dd will appreciate it next year! Our next door neighbours' little girl is exactly a year older than yours and came trick or treating with us tonight and was really sweet. Kept thinking she should stop eating the last piece of candy when she got a new one. And she kept saying thank you in Chinese (the family is) which was so cute! [hgrin] Going to snuff the candles in the jack o'lanterns out shortly as dcs will be going to bed. Happy Halloween!

CheerfulYank · 01/11/2010 15:55

DS was a scarecrow and a great time was had by all :) I second it being odd when babies TOT...DS was 3 months old on his first Halloween and we did dress him up and take him around to relatives, etc., because he made the cutest baby bear cub you ever saw! :o But trick-or-treating at that age is weird IMO.

dooneygirl · 02/11/2010 01:32

We had a great time, too. We didn't know it, but all our kids were dressed up as Star Wars characters. When we went around the neighborhood, we kept running into people we knew, and our group kept getting bigger.

I'm tired. I agreed to watch extra kids for a friend in a jam, and I had 4 extra today, and will for the next 2 days. I'm not sure how people with large families survive.

CheerfulYank · 02/11/2010 17:11

I know, dooney! I think when you do have a large family at least everyone's in more or less the same routine. I'm going to have our daycare provider's 2 over after school today. It's hard because they're older than DS by a bit, if they were closer to the same age it'd be easier to entertain them!

bonfireofthejennyps · 03/11/2010 05:45

Good luck with all the extra child-minding!

bonfireofthejennyps · 04/11/2010 23:34

Just a quick update that the heartbeat monitoring went really well and the baby can stay inside for the next 13 weeks or so! Hurray! Grin

redflipflops · 05/11/2010 04:33

Ooh, have a lovely time red! Don't forget to stock up on lots of lovely food - Cadbury's advent calendars and the like!

dooneygirl · 05/11/2010 23:59

Great news!

I am sitting here with the other kids gone and my two are sitting quietly in their rooms reading. (Their choice) How long do you think it will last? I'm trying to type quietly so they don't notice.

bonfireofthejennyps · 06/11/2010 01:05

I'm quite Envy of your dcs dooney - in a room, quietly reading - bliss! Grin

dooneygirl · 06/11/2010 01:10

I was checking my e-mail and Facebook, and I've had several people ask me if I've read the green note that was sent home from the school today to the 1st grade parents, so I went through DS' backpack and read it. It basically said thank you for helping, but we have too much help, and we only want you to volunteer 1/2 hour a week. If your 1/2 hour is up and you're not finished, get up and leave anyway. It just cracks me up, because there are so many things that need doing because they've cut so many positions, like librarian, and instead of having the parents help shelve books, or the like, they just want us to leave. How many schools out there in these economic times complain of too many parents volunteering.

jabberwocky · 06/11/2010 01:27

Have fun red!

Dooney, am Shock at the school note. How very strange.

dooneygirl · 08/11/2010 20:12

Never mind, I'm through being irritated with the note, because I've been told it doesn't apply to me. Grin

tadjennypumpkinpie · 08/11/2010 21:29

It's always nice to be an exception! Grin
