Nighbynight I mailed you but it came back undelivered. Is the t a u p e m a y address a bit further down wrong?

MmeLindt · 12/08/2009 12:02

Good to hear that the DC are settling in well, Admylin.

I guess that the only way you would get a house is to move a bit further out of town, but then you would be too far from school. And you are then stuck out in the boonies.

I went for a walk with the DC today, through the woods and came across the local BioBauer (his field is right behind the house). He has agreed to bring us a pallette of wood for the fire. It is cool sometimes in the evening, not enough to put the heating on but an open fire would be just the dab.

admylin · 12/08/2009 12:30

Sounds like you have friendly locals mmelindt! It's still too warm up here to even need a sweatshirt on in the evenings although we recently went out to a forest beer garden late at night and it was chilly but that was because it was in the forest.

Well, someone phoned with a flat in response to the advert but it's again, on a busy road and too far for dh to walk to work and too far for the dc to walk to school so no good. We need to be near one end so one or the other can walk. There is a bus to school from here but at the moment I drive them and it's only 10 minutes so not too bad.

Nighbynight · 12/08/2009 17:40

admylin, sorry its dot co dot uk, not com

keep looking on the house front! It took me about a month to find ours (small terrace house), although we did go a long way outside the city, as Munich prices make you faint.

admylin · 12/08/2009 18:55

Thanks, I've sent the mail again!

Yes, I think I will have quite a long wait until I find a place but rather wait than end up in somewhere we don't really like. A mum from dd's class told me she had found a house near school, 4 rooms, own garden all for 550KM per month and applied for it but she wasn't chosen in the end (obviously loads of people looked at it) so not only do you have to wait to find a place you like, you also have to be the type of person or family they want to rent it to. Guess we'll just have to push dh's title and position when ever we apply.

MmeLindt · 13/08/2009 13:03

Wow, that is cheap Admylin. We paid just under 800eu for a house in Hannover, iirc.

Did anyone see the meteors last night? I read about it on MN (where else?) and caught sight of two. I was not out long though, might have seen a lot more if I had stayed out.

admylin · 13/08/2009 13:47

Yes, it was extremely cheap which is why I think so many people looked at it! 800 is about the usual price for a house around here. But you can get really big flats in good areas for 600 which is cheap compared to other cities in Germany and even UK.

I think you can see the meteors again tonight as was listening to the regional radio in the car and they were telling you to go out this evening, best place a field or hill area.

Nighbynight · 20/08/2009 14:16

Hows the flat hunting going?

are we all on holiday?

admylin · 23/08/2009 17:52

Looks as if everyone is enjoyiing teh last few days/weeks of holiday it's been so qiuet.

I emailed you Nighbynight by the way. No news yet on the flat hunting side, saw on elast week that wa sno good and one was advertised in the papaer this weekend so will phone on Monday. Must be an office phone number as no one answered all weekend. Fingers crossed...

MmeLindt · 26/08/2009 07:27

How did you get on with the flat, Admylin?

Our schools went back this week so I have been getting back into the swing of things. Bliss to have some time to myself again.

Very quiet on this thread at the moment.

admylin · 26/08/2009 07:49

Hi - just drove past a flat that I have an appointment to view tonight and it turns out it's just above a restaurant! Think it could be a bad one aswell as if people have to go outside to smoke I have heard from other friends that the smoke and noise can be bad. I'm going to google the restaurant to see what sort it is but I think I won't bother even looking. My ad appears again in the local Wochenblatt so might get a call.

Is everyone elses dh stressed at work too? Why do they not leave work in the office and come home all friendly and happy?

admylin · 26/08/2009 07:55

Lol, it's above this place called Ranko.

MmeLindt · 26/08/2009 07:58

ooooh, that does not look good. We lived above a couple from Serbia. While their food probably tasted lovely, it was very Deftig and made our whole flat stink on Sunday mornings when they were making some kind of Sauerbraten. Lots and lots of garlic.

admylin · 26/08/2009 08:00

Sigh, back to the drawing board then.

Ds is away on Klassenfahrt this week so it's just me and dd and dh pops in now and then when he can tear himself away from work!

MmeLindt · 26/08/2009 08:05

DH is quite stressed at work. It helps when he goes jogging or cycling or out for a beer with friends once a week to let off steam.

Where is DS off to?

admylin · 26/08/2009 08:09

They've gone to a LAndheim owned by the Stadt Hannover near Fulda in the middle of nowhere! Plenty of fresh air and sport on the programme so it'll do him good.

Yes, dh keeps saying we should do some sport like jogging so I should push him to get up and do it but he comes home so late. He also fancies playing squash but that also means booking a court in advance usually.

Gracelo · 26/08/2009 10:14

Admylin, which area in Hanover are you looking at? My brother lives in Hanover, works for the Arbeiterwohlfahrt and knows everybody. He might know about flats coming up for rent.
dd started school last week, going well so far, she even takes the bus in the morning. I havn't dared to tell this bit to my mother, she would freak out, dd isn't even 5 yet.

admylin · 26/08/2009 10:41

It's so cute when you see the little 1st year dc going to school now that my 2 are in Gymnasium, I keep thinking they can't have been so cute and tiny!

We are thinking of trying to move over to Misburg-Nord on the edge of Hannover because that's where the dc are at school. The Schulzentrum there is really nice and if we live near then they can easily go back to join in after school clubs later. Someone else just phoned me in answer to my advert but she admitted that the new tram line that is being built will end right at the house so it'll be loud. Also it was a bit far from school. Maybe your brother could find out which Wohnungsgesellschafft (?) has houses and flats in Misburg as I can only find one (GBH) online and they took my name incase a big enough flat comes up.

Gracelo · 26/08/2009 11:06

Admylin, I send him an email and see what he says. He can ask around at work and friends. He is a very social person.
dd looks very funny and grown up in her school uniform. All the clothes are too big for her. I bought for size 5-6 but she is rather petite (strange, considering her amazonian mum). We'll have a big party for her birthday in mid September inviting her entire class. I'm a little terrified by it.

MrsVik · 26/08/2009 13:07

Hi everyone!

Just introducing myself after hearing about this thread on another part of the forum.

I was born in the UK but I have been in Germany (Stuttgart area) for a few years now - husband is German. We're expecting our first child (a girl!! Yippeeee!) in January and are over the moon. We're also in the process of building a house, so it's all go here.

Hope you're all having a good day! Nice to 'meet' you all!

Vik.

MmeLindt · 26/08/2009 14:03

Gracelo
I am a bit sad that my DC won't ever wear school uniform.

Vik
Glad that you found your way over here. Is your DH ein Schwabe then? Your wee girl is going to have a strong accent if he is.

My two had 2 days back at school and are now off today again. They are driving me mad. We can't leave the house as we have gardeners in to trim the hedges and they occasionally have to ask me how to do things. I don't want to just leave them to it, who knows what they will do in my absence.

I have learnt haie (hedge) haute (hoch) and vasile (?) soap/washing up liquid from the gardeners today.

canella · 26/08/2009 20:55

Vik, Welcome! congratulations on your baby - it must be an exciting time at yours with the baby coming and the house being built! hope it all goes to plan!

admylin, hope the flat hunting is successful soon - it must be so stressful trying to find one that has everything you want!

mme lindt - hope you survived the day! i'm wondering how big your hedges are that it takes all day!!!

well we've had a nice august - feels ages since i posted last! dd went away with GP for a week so it was just us and the 2 ds for a week - no quieter tho - its those boys who cause all the trouble!! and kiga was closed so i was exhausted by the time dh came home!

then we went away last week to austria - it was a fantastic holiday though no great rest! the resort had so much for kids to do without being like a huge kids club - loads of walking up hills etc but with little thngs on the way to keep the kids interested! and kids managed about 3 hours walking every day - not bad since ds2 is just turned 3!!!

but stopped in Munich for the weekend on the way back to BIL & SIL - it was a disaster! the weather was miserable and munich was absolutely heaving and BIL &SIL insisted on walking through the shopping streets in the rain!!! was so grumpy!!and kids were even more grumpy! not the best end to the holiday!

good thing is dh is off this week as well so been nice doing things in the morning just him and I (ds are back at kiga and dd is with GP again!). But i will be glad in a couple of weeks when dd goes back to school and i go back to having my peace and quiet every morning!! and more MN time!!!

admylin · 26/08/2009 21:07

Welcome mresvik, one thing that is great about Germany is the care you get before and after having a baby, it's great. I even got a cleaner /housekeepre for 5 days after having dd to help me out, all on the Krankenkasse!

Canella, a shame about the end of the holiday, bet you need to recover now. Did you get to do anything else in Munich except shopping street? Thinking we should try Munich for a weekend or something as we have a friend just over the border in Austria who we could visit and then stop over in Munich on the way back. This could al just be a dream of course because I have to convince dh to leave work for more than 24 hours!

It's so quiet with one dc at home. Dd is so easy going too, Friday all the peace will be gone though as they will be back to fratching with each other when ds gets back from his Klassenfahrt.

Gracelo · 27/08/2009 09:28

Admylin, my brother says he doesn't know of any flats/houses in that area but he will spread the word at work and see if anyone knows anything. He did send me a list of all the Wohnungsgesellschaften in Hanover

MrsVik - welcome and congratulations. admylin is right - the antenatal and postnatal care is really good. Are you doing a lot of the work on the house yourselves or have you got contractors in?

admylin - it´s funny that you think the 1 year children look so small because dd started school this week and I was thinking how grown up she looked compared with the Kindergarten children. The first couple of days have gone o.k. although the head did a talk on the first day where he went on and on about this being the start of der Ernst des Lebens. Talk about depressing the children before they´ve even started.

Canella - glad you had a great time in Austria. I´ve only ever been in winter, but would really like to give it a go in summer.

Anyway must go and tackle all the jobs that I´ve been putting off for the last few weeks.
