...
Wieder flattern durch die Lüfte
Süße, wohlbekannte Düfte
Streifen ahnungsvoll das Land
Veilchen träumen schon,
Wollen balde kommen
Horch, von fern ein leiser Harfenton!
Frühling, ja du bist's!
Dich hab ich vernommen!

joys of motherhood eh? We hear you canella. It can be a real grind at times, can't it? I remember when my dd had to be woken up at pick-up teime at kiga and she was always in one heck of a foul mood with me on the way back. She was strapped in a buggy, imprisoned really but sat there whacking her head against the cover

Thankfully we are past that but puberty is raising its gory head. Can't believe they are getting their periods now at 8 adn 9. Sounds way too early for me. Hope dd doesn't.

ZZZen · 27/03/2009 13:46

no ML, haven't heard from them. Do you think they're sending some heavies in black sunglasses round to sort me out?

ZZZen · 27/03/2009 13:47

on top of it all we have violin today. Bliss. Usually she comes later and doesn't see the unwashed windows but they are looking bad with the sun shining through them at the moment. Should go deal with it I suppose

abroadandmisunderstood · 27/03/2009 13:48

another one leaving? Admylin??? No seriously, I can understand your reasons completely and if I could do it myself, then I would. We have tenants in our uk house so can't just kick them out.

Has anyone seen Hups today? I need to ask her about the inhalation making her son hyper. My sweet 4yo has turned into a dervish and I have to peel him off the ceiling.

ZZZen · 27/03/2009 13:53

she was here this morning. Sorry you're having problems. Can you call the Kinderarzt and ask what you should do? Mind sometimes advised over the phone

canella · 27/03/2009 14:39

little monkey woke up after 90 mins full of the joys of spring - came right downstairs and ate all his lunch!! maybe he was just to tired after KG!! but no need for such naughtiness!!
Mme Lindt - i totally hear you about these troublesome toddlers - how old is your ds?? i'm always wishing that by the time he's 3 life will be better - ds1 was a joy at nearly 3 but doesnt look like ds2 is following suit!!! i'll def be on the wine tonight!! both ds's start KG every morn from next weds - i'll savour every hour peace it gives me!!

MmeLindt · 27/03/2009 14:49

Canella
I hate to say this but DS is 4.5yo and not a toddler anymore

He should know better, I despair sometimes.

Off to the horseridign this afternoon. Hope it is not too cold.

Hate to say this too, but my ds is 6 and is still a real handful at times. Sorry, you probably don't need to hear that!

Dd is normally OK although she was bouncing off the walls the other day after eating the most toxic looking sweet I've ever seen. It had just about every food colouring known to man in it and they certainly weren't natural. She was still buzzing 6 hours later. Needless to say she has been banned from eating that particular sweet for the time being.

taipo · 27/03/2009 16:19

Good luck, admylin, with your planning.

MmeLindt · 27/03/2009 18:10

Anyone ever done Open University? If so could you have a look at my thread here

OP posts:
admylin · 27/03/2009 18:33

mmelindt, I looked into doing OU a few years back, read through the brochures and planned it all then realised the cost is sometimes 3 times the cost for UK students if you want to study in Europe. It was quite expensive, or it would have been by the time I'd got through enough modules.

admylin · 27/03/2009 18:34

Oops, meant to post that on your thread, have done it right now!

ZZZen · 27/03/2009 18:37

Regular universities also have distance courses ML. I am not sure about teacher training. Have you investigated your local university near your parents' home? They have different criteria for mature students and some of these courses involve working long-distance with some residencies. Maybe that would work for the course itself. However for the what-do-you-call-it training sessions in schools obviously you would have to be in the UK to teach in the schools you are assigned.

Sorry you can see I don't know that much about it! Sounds interesting, especially if you will be continuing to travel about as a family.

ZZZen · 27/03/2009 19:28

mind you I am just reading a thread about a job interview for a teaching job where you have to bring an object that describes you and be prepared to talk about it (!?!) weird and apparently they expect you to crack jokes.

admylin · 28/03/2009 09:08

Morning everyone.

What are you all up to for the weekend? I've got to pack still but have atleast got the cases brought up. Should be full too because I've just heard it's wet and windy back home so we'll need proper foot wear and waterproofs and plenty of warm clothes as wind makes it even colder feeling.

I read that thread about job interviews too - I was lucky when I had interviews back in the stone age the only question I ever got abit like that was tell me your negative points.

Hope all the little toddlers and mini monsters are behaving this morning but honestly, give them all a big hug, they are so cute at that age and they just get worse as they get older, they are so easy to manipulate too (evil laugh) then you think it's over and they suddenly turn into teenagers!

ZZZen · 28/03/2009 11:06

I think I would wear all that stuff on the plane if you can admylin: thick pullovers, raincoats, scarves, hats whatever (and put it up in the overhead cubboards). I would also wear the clumpiest shoes that take up most space. Wellies take up a lot of room too though, don't they?

Hope you have a great time there.

admylin · 28/03/2009 11:26

Well we will be wearing the big stuff on the flight back for sure so that I have the most possible space in my cases for new stuff and BOOKS! Can't wait to get some decent books, my mum brpought me 7 when she came in January and I'd finished them within 3 weeks.

ZZZen · 28/03/2009 11:32

when do you find the time admylin? When they are in bed?

It'll be greeat (I hope). How are you feeling about dh these days? Is the Easter bunny leaving him a little basket of chocolate eggs?

ZZZen · 28/03/2009 11:33

just been looking at the American names thread and found it all too gruesome. Need a gentler climate so I have crawled back here.

admylin · 28/03/2009 11:38

No, we don't 'do' presents in this family as such, not to each other anyway. Dc didn't even get a Christmas present from him this year.

Yes, I read after the dc are in bed, the TV is rubbish, PC is usually besetzt (otherwise i'd be on MN) so I go to bed and read for a couple of hours and I am a very quick reader, leider!

ZZZen · 28/03/2009 11:44

feeling sorry for the Americans really. Am tempted to go over there and tell them all I feel half American because we eat maple syrup on our pancakes instead of golden syrup these days and I have called my dd Brie Bryony Brielle III and everyone I know LOVES the name, just loves it, so there.

I do agree with the American posters though that some of the names used in the UK these days sound extremely naff, even to me. I met this dad at an English speaking toddler group in Berlin whose dc were called Daisy, Poppy, Cherry. Now I thought that altogether this combination wasn't too good tbh even if one of them alone would have been OK. I asked him what name he would have chosen for a boy - get this : Bramble

I just don't think Brits should really be throwing stones about names, do you? Mind you it looks more like ROCKs they are throwing atm

ZZZen · 28/03/2009 11:55

you don't get joint presents for the kids then admylin?

Well I do the Chrsitmas shopping, since I have more time for it but then one or two days before Christmas dh usually goes out shopping and goes totally overboard and buys tons of stuff for dd , so it gets too overloaded. I don't know how to change that though. I can't leave it till the last minute like he does and so I always get soem things she needs and some things I think she will like/be useful and he then at the last minute spends at least that much and more again. I do try and change it but it doesn't seem to ever work.

Either way too much or not enough (as in lack of interest in it) isn't good IYAM.

canella · 28/03/2009 19:51

guten abend!!
stupidly tried to take the kids to the bathroom shops today - you can imagine how much fun they thought it was but how much stress we were having trying to keep them under control!! only needed a mirrored bathroom cabinet with a light - not easy here when you dont want the whole bathroom suite!!

Admylin - is your flight tom? have you discussed the future with dh?? Hope you have a safe flight and hope you have a fantastic time in the UK!

MmeLindt · 28/03/2009 20:25

Is it tomorrow you are flying, Admylin? ARe you packed yet?

Cannella
Shopping with wee ones, horrible. . You need a double buggy, with straight jacket like reins on it and a huuuge packet of Gummibärchen.

You could go to Wü to Möbel Neubert, where I used to work for furniture. They have a playarea for DC, but I think it is from 3 to 6yo.

I bought a tin of Irn Bru in the French supermarket yesterday so am drinking that while DH watches Top Gear. They are meeting the "German contemporaries from the German top gear equivalent", should be interesting.

OP posts:
admylin · 29/03/2009 08:34

Morning, yes I have all the stuff to pack in a pile andamd going to pack it all after breakfast. Dc are realyl excited.

Last night they were fighting abit (over the TV controls, who gets to hold them but typical fratching anyway) and h's response is always so extreme - OK if ds doesn't stop he should stay here and I'll get a student to come and work with him all holiday. How the hell is going to punish him if he ever does anything really bad. Hilarious part was, he said I'll give 50 euro and the student will come - what like per week? Haha, just more evidence that he isn't on our planet, because if he meant 50 per day, he would never pay that much.

Yes, mmelindt I remember how I valued my double buggy, both strapped in and the big bag of what ever sweet treat they are into at the time! By the way canella, did you get a mirror thing for the bathroom in the end? We wanted one but they were either cheap rubbish or extremely expensive so we ended up with a mirror, shelf and under basin cupboard.
