...
Wieder flattern durch die Lüfte
Süße, wohlbekannte Düfte
Streifen ahnungsvoll das Land
Veilchen träumen schon,
Wollen balde kommen
Horch, von fern ein leiser Harfenton!
Frühling, ja du bist's!
Dich hab ich vernommen!

thanks Westvan.

Oh for a day, just ONE day when no-one is ill in our house...

MmeLindt · 24/03/2009 14:06

AAM
Poor DS, hope he is ok.

We have been incredibly lucky in that we have had none of the typical childhood diseases. We are well vaccinated I suppose, but even the ones that are not waccinated against, we have not had.

Except Läuse, we are Nit Central here.

Hey Mme,

Now I come to think of it DS1 hasn't been eating very well for a few days. Finishing any food has become a huge issue, which is unlike him. He was also quite grumpy yesterday. He's got no fever or rash though.

He's all jabbed up too, but I dread the Lause day...

admylin · 24/03/2009 14:43

My 2 had slapped cheek in Berlin, lasted a week or more 'til it died down. If I remember rightly they had a bit of a rash on their arms or body I think too.

Frosch · 24/03/2009 17:28

Hello, Frosch here; I'v been diverted by the three most terrifying words in the English language "Mother Is Here". I, apparently, spend too much time on my laptop.

Am cursing mother nature for giving me dodgy antibodies, as the klinikum called this morning to say that they are too high and I've got to go in tomorrow. DH has just disappeared of to Oz for three weeks, leaving me to face a poss. interuterine blood transfusion alone. I knew it would happen as soon as he got on the plane. They stick a needle through your tummy button into the baby and pump her full of fresh blood. I hate needles and I hate blood.

I suppose I should thank god that Mother Is Here as DS will have some childcare. The big news this week is that my local HIT have started stocking "Englisch-style" salt and vinegar crisps. Way-hey!

MmeLindt · 24/03/2009 20:19

Frosch
My sympathies, I hate needles and blood too.

Just as well your mum is there, take advantage of her. Does she do ironing?

mme lindt - you are the font of all knowledge about the this area and wuerzburg!! was telling dh all about it - think we might try to go at the weekend -depends what the weather does!! or maybe the following weekend - he'll have been paid by then so we could maybe do some shopping!!

he's just told me his parents are going on holiday for 4 weeks at the end of april! one of the reasons we moved to germany was for them to play a bigger part in the kids lives - they were full of promises that they would take the kids one wekend a month to give us some time - absolutely no sign of this - think oma was all talk!! she's prob have dd regularly but think they find ds's too much trouble!! tell me about it - i've got them 24/7!!

AAM - hope your ds is better soon
Frosch - hope your transfusion goes ok!! sound really invasive - i'd be petrified but i'm also not good with needles despite working in a hospital for 12 years!!

night night!

MmeLindt · 25/03/2009 08:20

Canella
We lived in Wü for over 10 years and still visit regulary so we have stored up a lot of useless information.

I am just having another cuppa while trying to syche myself up to going on the XT and then doing some washing/ironing. I would love to have a housekeeper to do the laundy, it is such a thankless task, never ending, boring, mind numbing.

Just got an email from Easyjet

"Has London ever been so cheap?

Did you know that the English pound has lost more than 25% of its value? With a fall like that, there has never been a better time to visit the English capital. And when you get there, the shopping is up to you!"

Offering flights from Geneva to London for 37chf. I am tempted to fly over for a day.

Morning, another load of snow coming down this morning. I just got caught in it and my ears are frozen. Dd is coming down with a cold, could be her last day at the Freiluft place if she's worse tonight.

I know, I also find washing and ironing boring and I haven't got a dryer so I either have to cart it all down to the drying room in cellar or hang it on airers - at the moment I always seem to have an airer standing somewhere.

admylin · 25/03/2009 08:24

Is that 37CHF with or without airport tax? Still, would be worth it - those bargains you got on M&S were great too.

MmeLindt · 25/03/2009 08:41

With taxes and all. I can't really book even if I wanted to. Would have to find childcare and some more cash.

Poor DD, it must be bitter cold for them traipsing through the woods. I wonder why they did not do it in spring/summer.

OP posts:
admylin · 25/03/2009 08:43

That's exactly what dd asked this morning and all I could think of was that some years it is nice and mild by this time, they probably didn't think it'd be so bad and I bet the teacher who has to accompany them is cursing too!

MmeLindt · 25/03/2009 08:55

They did say in our Kita that they do the Waldwoche in early spring as there are not so many ticks in the forests at this time of year.

I would rather smother them in anti-tick zeug than have them freeze their bums off.

They are very hardy though. They went into the wald in every kind of weather, even when it was persistantly raining. The only time they called off was when it had been stormy the night before and they were advised not to go in the woods in case of falling trees.

OP posts:
canella · 25/03/2009 08:55

morning!! there's loads of snow here this morn too - feel sorry for your dd admylin - she must be frozen!! can you bring her home early if she's not well or does she have to go all week?

Feel like i've been up for a whole day and its only 10am!! had to take my car to vw in bad neustadt to get the lights etc sorted - hopefully it'll pass the TuV today - i'm anxious all the time when i'm driving in case the police stop me - i've got insurance and a valid english MOT but i've not got those little badges on my german plates!! keep your fingers crossed it gets sorted today and it doesnt cost the earth!! so dh, me and 2 ds had to troop to bad neu then wait for ages so they only got to KG at 9.15 and they only stay till 10.30!! not really worth taking them but at least its given me 5 mins to sit on the computer!!! with a cuppa of course!!

wonder if we get enough snow for snowballs later - i know all of you are prob sick of snow but i love it mainly cause we never got any in NW england!! i'm sure i'll be fed up this time next year!! but for now i'm going to carry on being giddy excited about it and let the kids play out in it when they get back!! might meet my dd from the bus tho - she's not dressed for snow!!
hope you all have a good day

admylin · 25/03/2009 08:59

Canella, do they only go to KG for such a short time 'til they get used to it? Hope the car gets the OK. We have to take our car in tomorrow to get the oil changed and the tyres changed from winter to summer but looking at the weather I'm not sure if we should.

Where were you in NW? I'm from the Lake District.

abroadandmisunderstood · 25/03/2009 09:01

morning. More snow here in Munich too.

Well DS1 does not have slapped cheek but the doctor is worried about his cough and a rattle in his chest. He is at home for two days now and has to breathe four times a day on an inhalator. I have never seen one of these before. it looks awfully serious putting drops into itvand wearing a mask for 10 mins.

The doctorvsaid it is not asthma but needs to clear his lungs. Have any of you had this with your children?

He's absolutely fine, charging round the house and is already back to better appetite after 3 goes on the contraption.

MmeLindt · 25/03/2009 09:03

Morning Canella. You will have to namechange to Rhönhase

I served a mother and daughter when I worked in the shop in Wü (furniture store) and they were so lovely. The DD was about 14 and she and her mum were so giggly and fun. I asked for their address and they gave me an address in Bad Neustadt then said, "Wir sind Rhönhasen"

Just thought of another place to send you, there is an Italian deli in Fulda where they sell the best bread that I have ever tasted. Yumyumyum. We used to stop on our way from Wü to Hannover and buy some. I recently baked white bread and DH said, "This is very close to being as good as the Fulda bread". Praise indeed!

OP posts:
admylin · 25/03/2009 09:05

Yes, those inhalator things really help don't they. Dd had one last year in Berlin. We were given it on prescription and it really helped clear her cough.

It was starting to hurt too much when she had to cough, which is why I took her to the doctor and that's what she gave her.

MmeLindt · 25/03/2009 09:05

AAM
Sounds horrible for him, but glad it is helping. Never had to do this with my DC. Hope it is just a one off.

OP posts:
abroadandmisunderstood · 25/03/2009 09:09

admylin I could cry with relief that you have used the same thing. He is annoyingly chirpy right now and I must remind myself of that.

He goes back tomorrow for another check but has the inhalator for a week.

admylin · 25/03/2009 09:14

Yes I think we had it for a week too but she really didn't need it after 4 days as she was so much better.

Right now I need to get some medecine that will help dd get this cold out of her system - she MUST be fit for Sunday to fly. I'm thinking I should get some Nurofen and maybe some sort of nose spray and then put her to bed with hot water bottle tonight.

ZZZen · 25/03/2009 09:54

aam, dd had that inhaler once. It's fine. Friends of mine even needed to use it when their baby was only 2 months old.

Frosch that sounds horrible. Eek! Poor you. Hope it goes well and your mum doesn't drive you totally mad. Steer away from those Englisch-style crisps, I tell you, once you get started, you're hooked.

That is a short kiga day canella, is it even worth it?

admylin · 25/03/2009 10:08

Frosch is maybe at the hospital now eh? Hope everything goes well. One good thing about Germnany is the good health care, very modern and efficient usually. If I was back home in the Lake ditrict I would maybe have to travel as far as Newcastle to get that sort of treatment.

I've just turned the heating up, it is so cold here and still snowing.

hupa · 25/03/2009 10:14

aam - ds has also had one of those inhalers. I think they´re probably more common here than in the uk. I have to warn you that the drug that we used with ds made him absolutely hyper so we stopped as soon as he showed some improvement.

We´ve got loads of snow here. I had to take ds to his speech therapy appointment and it took 30 mins instead of 15mins to get there. None of the roads had been cleared and I got stuck on a hill with the tyres spinning and the back of the car sliding all over the place. It was good nothing was coming in the opposite direction. Needless to say I´m sitting here with a cup of coffee and some chocolate to help m recover.

Frosch - hope it all goes well today.
