I only have read the last 2 posts, but PLEASE don't go, Cali. You know there will never be anyone with pitchforks here, and the thread will not be the same without you. You were sorely missed for the 2 weeks EMIL was here.

I am at my IL's right now. My friend had big issues a few days before we left, which took a lot of my time, and really was emotionally taxing. I think I went to bed at 7:30 one night. If you have a DH or DP or significant other that treats you and your DC's relatively well, please give them a hug. They deserve it.

Anyway, this is my first time online in a bit and I don't really have much time on the computer, and was just planning a quick peek, but Cali just can't go, and that is the end of that. I'll be back in a few days, and will be looking for you. And anorak needs to post more, too.

SuperBunny · 24/01/2009 04:27

Thanks for letting us know you are there Dooney. Hope you are ok. Your friend too x

Your poor ds Cali! Things were thoroughly odd over Christmas, I hope it all blows over.

My ds is usually very stoic, whilst dd is a bit of a drama queen, but for their HepB jab ds got really upset, and then of course it hurt, as he has virtually no fat, so the jab went into really rigid muscle, dd went first and was fine!

Hello - back again. I have been speaking to work and said that we would be happy to move to DC, depending on the terms and conditions. Tis a big international co, so they do this kind of move all the time, so I assume they have very good systems in place.

I am sure I will be back during negotiations to ask for advice. I know Virginia well for holidays, as my parents live there, but that is not the same things really, is it?

Anyway, I was worried that DH would hate the idea, but he is very excited and is already house hunting on the net and has decided he wants a house with a "den". He says he never knew he wanted a den, and he is not quite sure what a den is, but he wants one.

I am trying to stay relaxed about it, because it may not happen, but I would so much love to move closer to my parents while ds is still young (3). I want him to really know his grandparents.

Anyway, just thought I would pop in and say hello again. I love following this thread, as it gives me a bit of an insight into what might be ahead of me.

By the way, Califrau, you are not the only one hating what happened over Christmas. I have stayed out of it all and have not posted much at all since. But have always enjoyed your posts, so if I ever see anyone with a pitchfork - beware.

jabberwocky · 24/01/2009 15:13

Cali, tbh I started laying low a couple of years ago. Just too much bitchery going on! I mostly keep to a couple of ongoing threads and venture out to the active convos when I just want to kill time have a quick look out of curiousity.

Re: Northern exposure, they did catapult a piano in one episode. Chris was going to do a cow but then found out it had already been done by someone.

Earlybird · 24/01/2009 15:23

Hello all - yes, I think we need to stick together here because we're all friendly, sometimes funny and not at all bitchy.

Must confess that I am using Mnet differently now, and often hide more threads than I read. Also have taken to searching archives to find posts by those I know I enjoy rather than wading into the (often unpleasant) fray.

I think injections are difficult. What works for us is if I stand very close to dd, make eye contact/hold her gaze and blow a puff of air on her face just at the moment of the jab. It is a sensory distraction that I then follow up quickly with a chocolate button or some other treat.

With exchange rates changing so dramatically, is anyone planning a trip back to the UK?

JacksmamaSaysIHeartTheRev · 24/01/2009 16:30

Is Nooka about? How cold is it in Kamloops? It was minus 6 here this morning (which is brutally cold for here) and FOGGY, of all things, so when I left the house I was immediately covered in ice crystals. Thought I should ask if you're frozen solid in the Interior.

JacksmamaSaysIHeartTheRev · 24/01/2009 16:30

Speaking of MN ugliness over Christmas... like my new name?
[grrr emoticon]

jabberwocky · 24/01/2009 16:50

love the new name was thinking about becoming RevJabberwocky ...

SuperBunny · 24/01/2009 17:08

I have also been hiding threads and avoiding many others. I am glad to have a couple of threads that feel like home and only post elsewhere if it is something that doesn't matter or something I have a vested interest in (Food threads, mainly )

I'm going to meet a lovely friend for lunch. She wants to go for milkshakes.

JacksmamaSaysIHeartTheRev · 24/01/2009 18:27

Maybe we should all name-change and become Rev something. Wouldn't that be if an entire thread did it?

nooka · 24/01/2009 19:14

I've only bumped into the Rev once or twice - I only really enter via last 15 mins, so moving to an eight hour time difference, and starting work has somewhat curtailed my mumsnetting. Probably a good thing Otherwise I'll wade into whatever is going on, just so everyone has the benefit of my not very pithy musings, relevant or not

It's suddenly got colder here - the forecast said it would be -31 tonight. Not sure I believe that to be honest. They seem very hit and miss here, although I didn't pay much attention in the UK, and New York weather was just plus or minus hot, with some steam on the side if you were unlucky

I flew from Kamloops to Richmond on Tuesday, out of a sea of cloud here, over the mountains, which were beautiful (and sunny) and down through the cloud again into Richmond. It was nice to see some green grass! The main difference was that our cloud was snowy white, whereas the Vancouver cloud had a lovely yellowish grey tinge...

We'd like some more snow here - the kids weren't allowed to sledge at school this week because the snow has turned to very hard ice, and the boys were getting very battered. dd got to go skating with her class, which she was very excited about, but came back also a bit battered, as she had forgotten how to stay on her feet.

It is minus 18 here and it feels decidedly cold.

I am in bed with a cup of tea and my laptop

kickassangel · 24/01/2009 23:39

Cali, hi again. have hardly ever talked to you, although i've been on here since before you left germany. it was -10 here today, v sunny, so i put dd into her really gorgeous fluffy jacke t7 hat combo, but she was cold still, we only went for lunch at the puub before heading back home.

i'm trying to plana trip home, feeling quite homesick atm. now we're moved in & there's not so much to do, i'm missing people.

have a choice of - 2 weeks at easter (dd misses about 6 days of kinder) for $500 each. bit of a rush to see everyone, and mil will count how many days are spent at hers/my parents, and easter will 'count' more than other days (aaah)

or go at end of may (dd misses about 8 days of kider, inc end of year frivolities) & we can stay for weeks & weeks. will miss dh, but will spend more time with PIL, so keep them happy. costs about $1,000 each. dh refuses to join us to see his parents so abit of a tricky issue.

WWYD? i'm leaning towards easter, but i'm very impatient!! it's so cold that we don't go out much & feeling quite shut off

NOT happy about the pound dropping again - had just convinced dh to bring over some of our savings so we could buy new sofas.much needed as dh (who only weighs 10st) broke part of the futon in the basement. (which will now do nicely for making compost bins)

kickassangel · 25/01/2009 00:10

option 3 is going after schools break for summer, cost of over $1,300 each!!

SuperBunny · 25/01/2009 00:31

If you can afford it, I'd do option 2 - it's awful being very rushed and having to visit lots of people in a short space of time.

Good recycling - futon - compost bins. Def time for a new sofa!

chatting to dh he thinks go in may & stay several weeks. have just realised we'll be there for half term so dd cna see her cousins loads, which is important. will have to check with my parents - they have a habit of going on holiday!
dh's condition is that we book a camping trip to lake michigan for when dd & i go back, and check prices - not much point in saving money on flights if our summer hols end up costing loads more.

cali, we don't have thermal underwear yet, except dh, from his ski-ing trips. dd has the full snow suit set up, but it was nearly up to freezing the last 2 days & i got giddy with the excitement of all that heat, and just had to put her in a cute little outfit, even if she didn't like the hat!! i love macy's sale, and have to restrict myself. spent quite a lot on dd, but still have no proper coat or boots for me.

hope this post makes sense, dh made us tequilas & i've drunk all mine inone big slurp. yum. giggle
