LOL Kickass. It's amazing what men can and can't remember, isn't it?

i am waiting to hear if AL having ababy, i don't usually get involved in the childbirth stuff - no chance of any babies in our house, and dd now 5, so it seems a bit remote to me. however, now i am a beleaguered ex-pat, i 'feel' closer to people on this thread, which is silly as i don't really know any of you.

won't be posting as much for a while. dh's boss has noticed that we 'borrowed' a work laptop for a few...months! and has asked for it back. now dh & i will have to argue over the pc in the study, unless i can get him to set up another one (we have ridiculous amounts of pc bits, it's his job, he kind of cares for them & nurtures them back into life)

in fact, apparently it's his turn now? so i suppose i out to go. have a good eve.

SuperBunny · 21/01/2009 02:32

We'll miss you Kickass! Don't be gone for too long.

One of the nice things about being an expat is that you suddenly feel a connection with people just because they are Brits. I love this thread (as you can see from the amount of time I spend on it )

Cheers, SuperBunny. It's in a book I'm reading at the moment and it's not germane to the plot or anything, just one of those things that would niggle me if I didn't know.

SuperBunny · 21/01/2009 02:40

It niggles me, ninedragons and I do know what it means! I remember asking someone shortly after I moved here and she began explaining how one tells the time

I would have thought Family Guy a definite suspect. My dh used to let the children watch that (when he was, not on their own). He thought it went totally above the heads. Now they are older he has decided that t is too adult (which it is). It may well be that your ex has the same opinion - ie that your son doesn't "get" the adult bits, and he is probably right, but he is obviously picking up some odd ideas. The only way to counter this I suspect is to set him straight when required, and make sure he knows he can ask you about anything, and get a proper reply. I recall having some quite in depth conversations with my two when they were quite small. It was surprising the things they wanted to know - not necessarily mechanics type stuff, although I have always veered on the side of too much rather than too little. I think creating safe spaces for anything goes conversations is quite important (although I slightly wonder if the children just like this as a way of putting off going to sleep!)

SuperBunny · 21/01/2009 03:37

You're absolutely right.

I was so shocked at hearing my little darling use the word 'sex' that I lost all ability to think rationally

Of course this is not the end of the world

Another vote here for Family Guy. A fair amount of adult-type humor iirc.

SuperBunny · 22/01/2009 02:29

Thanks everyone

Where's Dooney?

AL, where's the baby?

Boo - I'm here always late to the party, but then unfortunately I'm not often a lady of leeesuuuurrrre any more. Weather is indeed beautiful here sigh - we need more snow. Unlike GenX I still haven't managed to go skiing shocking considering I work for a global ski clothing brand . Not through lack of trying mind you.

AnnieLaurie · 22/01/2009 04:45

The baby is seeing how far it can stretch it's feet into my ribcage! No sign of any contractions, still got 4 days to go til officially overdue...

I am bored, DH and I plowing through season 2 of lost (yes, we are very behind the times), but he has just gone off to do some work and so I can't watch another episode. Humph!

AnnieLaurie · 22/01/2009 04:48

Just been reading back through thread...be assured people, you will know when I am having baby, you will hear it echoing across the States...

Will def try and post when things get going.

I like this thread, it's a mini Mumsnet!! Private members club!

alipiggie · 22/01/2009 05:12

Hi AL - oh that feeling of feet under the ribs. I can still feel it now even five years later. I hope baby makes an appearance soon. Go see Hotel for Dogs, laughing at that one might spur it on into the world.

AnnieLaurie · 22/01/2009 05:12

Right then, obviously just me here, talking to myself this eve. Might as well go and make a raspberry leaf tea...

AnnieLaurie · 22/01/2009 05:13

Oh, Hi AP - cross post! How are you?

anorak · 22/01/2009 05:14

Good luck with the birth, Annie.

Family Guy is a bit much for a 3-yr-old - I don't let my 8-yr-old watch it! Would your ex be really difficult if you asked him not to let dinner see it? If he would be then I can understand your letting it lie. My ex (with whom I had my two girls) was like that and had I objected to anything he did he would have just done it more just a bully really. I hope things are better than that for you.

nooka · 22/01/2009 05:17

My waters broke early with both my children, and then nothing happened after that. With ds I had stained meconium, and a transverse oblique lie, so he was removed rather fast. With dd I had three days of trying to get things started, including going to see Mission Impossible II - hoping the excitement would get her going it didn't!

Good luck!

AnnieLaurie · 22/01/2009 13:19

Anyone else sleepless in Seattle (),sitting in the kitchen at 5am drinking Raspberry leaf tea?

Thought not.

jabberwocky · 22/01/2009 15:31

nooka, we had similar first births! After all the drama with ds1 I went for an elective with ds2

Bunkups33 · 22/01/2009 16:20

Hi all.

Had forgotten about this thread as been lurking on ante-natal for Jan 09. AL I am due on 30th and been in US for 2 months now. Keep thinking baby is coming but pains never last long (just long enough to keep me up all night!).

Have not found raspberry leaf tea but seem to remember drinking gallons when overdue with dd to no avail.

No 2 was 8 weeks early though so am very surprised to still be here and still be getting bigger!

Anyone watched the Wire? We've just finished season 3 and its brilliant.

kickassangel · 22/01/2009 16:36

dh has just got me sucked back into lost. we've missed 2 series, but are watching ones that are being shown now - not sure if they're the most up to date or not! at least with lost it doesn't matter which order you watch them in, it makes no more sense anyway.

i'm amazed bythose of you have babies whenyou just got here!! incredibly impressed - i'm still trying to sort out dd's immunizations, can't imagine how you cope with getting booked in for a delivery. good luck to you.

how did youmanage to get here if you were in the last trimester - i thought you were 'banned' on long haul after 6 months. did you walk, or swim? let us know how it goes, we can add them to the US mn branch.

Bunkups33 · 22/01/2009 18:49

We actually flew when I was 29 weeks as we had a couple of harrowing weeks waiting for DS's visa (homrone-addled brain somehow resulted in arriving at US Embassy with 3 instead of 4 passports so postal application required!).

Still I didn't actually volunteer any info about how many weeks gone and no one asked. DH had to start job so alternative of being on own in UK with 2 kids and heavily preggers not very attractive.

Has been easy peasy really - health care great, hospital lovely only downside is trying to fathom health insurance!

I ran out of patience with Lost about half way into series 1!! Couldn't handle how nothing was ever resolved / explained.

SuperBunny · 22/01/2009 18:53

Thanks Anorak - my ex will just deny that DS watches Family Guy but will continue to let him see it, so I feel there is little point even mentioning it. All it does is gets me worked up.

I too am astonished at people moving countries while pg. It's hard enough to do anyway. Good luck Bunkups and AL.

I have never seen Lost - should I watch it? Same for the Wire.
