Can anyone give us some practical info? I have changed name to protect the innocent! DH is about to lose his job and I am self employed. We are getting a bit fed up with the UK and want a better life for DS. He is 2.5 . How long does the process take? Do they have nurseries in Canada? What is the education system like? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Jacksfirstchristmasmama-did you emigrate from the UK?

OP posts:
JacksFirstChristmasMama · 13/12/2008 00:36

No, we emigrated to Toronto from Germany when I was 12, but I thought since I live in the area I could find links for you to Immigration etc, and give you opinions on where are nice places to live...

If you are in engineering/construction, think carefully, projects are being cancelled here left and right. We will find out in a couple of weeks if we still have jobs. (in Montreal)

bigspender30 · 13/12/2008 13:15

Is it the same situation throughout Canada or specific to Montreal just now?

waitingforgodot · 13/12/2008 13:28

Brownsugar-fingers crossed for you.
JacksFirstChristmasMama-I will def email you once I have put together a list of questions if thats ok?
Babbi-that link is great and very informative. Thanks for that!

Great - whenever you're ready!

BrownSugaSprinkledOnPumpkinPie · 13/12/2008 20:00

bigsp, fairly much canada wide. My boss hasn't seen it like this before. He said in the last 3 downturns, it was one coast or the other, but this time, it's everywhere.

waitingforgodot · 18/12/2008 19:17

have emailed you at last JacksFirstChristmasMama!
Brownsuga-any word on your job? Is Canada in the midst of a recession?

Hi, I would like to join this chat, please. My hubby, myself and our 8-month old son are nearing the end of our PR visa process!! Yipee!

I would be so grateful, if there are any people based in Canada (we are either looking at BC or Ontario) that I could ask a couple of questions to.

We are planning to go over in April 2010 and I am getting a little nervous now

Kind regards

Kay

waitingforgodot · 17/02/2009 15:16

hi Buddy80! lucky you! Whats a PR visa process then?

Highlander · 18/02/2009 16:56

we lived in Vancouver, and it was the best 18 months of my life.

DH has applied for a job in Kelowna, but it's very, very competitive, he's fairly pessimistic . He's an interventional cardiologist (angioplasty) and he just won't 'downgrade' to general cardiology. Seems a bit selfish IMO,considering the career sacrifices I've made for him and the kids, but there you go.

Highlander · 18/02/2009 16:57

sorry, unecessary rant

waitingforgodot · 18/02/2009 17:25

thats ok-you rant away!

Great! I'm such a numpty.

waitingforgodot · 18/02/2009 17:57

Just emailed you a quick update!

OP posts:
Highlander · 19/02/2009 10:46

PR visas (without a job offer) can take 2 years to process now I hear

waitingforgodot · 19/02/2009 11:40

So is the quickest way into Canada with a job offer then?

OP posts:
JacksmamasBabyIsOneYearOld · 19/02/2009 18:47

I would guess so. But, like everywhere else, most companies prefer to give jobs to Canadians rather than foreigners (sorry, offensive term, I know) and hassling with visas.

waitingforgodot · 20/02/2009 18:26

thanks for the email! Will email you back this weekend.
I think that the same as most places. They would prefer to hire someone local.
