Details please ghosty!! I haven't heard anything??!! Spill...

ninedragons · 08/08/2008 08:05

My Womans Day hasn't arrived this week so I am bereft of celeb gossip.

ghosty · 08/08/2008 08:41

Ha ha ...
not quite as elevated as Woman's Day ...

If I told you I might have to kill you ...
don't get that excited though - DC might be cross if I said anything and it isn't that exciting or massive but it is funny and to me she is a minor sleb ...

eidsvold · 08/08/2008 10:29

okay so DC needs to spill!!!!

ViolentFemme · 08/08/2008 12:59

Hello,

DH, ds (14 months) and me have been in Sydney (ex Scotland) since June. Fully intend to be in it for the long haul. Laughed our socks off at everyone wearing coats and scarves during the day when it's 18 degrees (fek that's summer in Glasgow). Acclimatised within a week and now wearing fleecy jimjams to bed.

Have met arfishy, brightongirl and ninedragons and they're a hoot.

(Come on DC, spill!)

Oh I'm away to watch olympics opening ceremony!

eidsvold · 08/08/2008 23:02

okay - so who watched the opening ceremony - I went to bed to watch it whilst snuggling under the doona and promptly fell asleep!! I woke up on and off to snatches but had to give it up as a bad joke.

So woke up early this morning and so watched the last part of it. The flame lighting was amazing. Not sure I would like to be suspended whilst I 'ran' around the stadium at a great height. The costumes were fantastic.

Not sure about the Aussie team uniform - bit casual me thinks

But did get a lump in my throat when I saw the flag and my team

We've been in Sydney (ex-Brighton) for just over a year now. Kids are 15, 9 (boys) and 5 (girl). I've rather carelessly managed to miss the two recent Sydney meet ups but I'm hoping to rectify that soon.

ViolentFemme · 09/08/2008 13:39

My favourite part of the opening ceremony is all the wee countries fielding a team of two. I'm a sucker for the underdog. Fell asleep too and saw neither the Brits nor the Aussies

eidsvold · 10/08/2008 10:47

I love it when you see them - and that little boy walking with the Chinese flagbearer. Brought a lump to my throat.

I got up Violent and watched it yesterday morning - abridged all the teams walking through but I saw a number of teams whilst I dozed fri night.

Aussie in london here well home counties actually. originally from rocky the sticks. its bloody cold in the UK!

I always look forward to trips home. usually stay with mil in Brissy. Can't wait to go home for good.

eidsvold · 10/08/2008 22:45

moocow i spent three years living and studying in Rockhampton.

OP posts:
chloeb2002 · 12/08/2008 00:11

both dh and myself are pommes.. been in brissy wow nearly a year now.
Dd born in sydney nearly 6, ds born in bris nearly 4 months ago... however recently he seems to spend more time visiting rch at herston.. maybe he likes the deco???? personally its wearing thin for me
currently job hunting for when my registration is done... im a nurse in the real world.. and waiting for a big lotto win to buy my dream property.

eidsvold · 12/08/2008 00:42

step aside chloe - we are getting the next big lotto win - dh to get his car and me to take the dds to the UK - preferably in the first class personal suites now available on emirates!!

Now now cloe - what is wrong with the RCH decor it is a lovely place to be We have a batch of appts coming up including one to the new kids cardiac department at the mater hospital - would rather Prince charles or the rch any day!!

OP posts:
chloeb2002 · 12/08/2008 01:25

i know i know those foot prints on the floor are too tempting.. like ikea really.. just keep walking.. however i cant help but think being on first name terms with most of the radiographers allready is maybe not such a good sign?!!! not had the pleasure of the mater yet.. nearly last week as ds's doctor was there and no one seemed able to get the required pint of blood out of him!
will strike a deal on the lotto front... i win it.. buy the 92 acre block i quite fancy... subdivide it.. and presnt ypu with a cut.. plenty for a car and airline tickets! in fact i would be quite happy just winning 100k enough for a healthy deposit on my other house....
ummmmmmmmm dreaming now....

eidsvold · 12/08/2008 04:40

exactly - that would give us the car we would like, the trip to see grandma and a nice chunk off the mortgage - $100 000 would be plenty

and that is a deal!!

OP posts:
chloeb2002 · 13/08/2008 00:33

thats a good plan then just need those numbers....
can we buy some warmer weather too while we are at it!

eidsvold · 13/08/2008 07:21

bit chilly and very dry - sick of static electricity.

Hi all. Sorry to crash your thread, but I am after some advice please.
I am a nurse and have made some enquiries about emigrating to Australia. I can see from the thread that you live in a range of cities and wondered if you could tell me what the places are like please. The heat puts me off a little but I am assuming that further south is not so hot? I could be way off the mark though!

Thanks in advance for any info ladies

eidsvold · 13/08/2008 22:30

actually it can get hotter in Adelaide/SA and Melbourne than it does in Brisbane in summer!

OP posts:
chloeb2002 · 13/08/2008 23:04

hi mammyjo im a nurse too and live in brisbane. everyone has told us that last summer was cold and will admit we coped just fine.. winter has seemed very very cold.. so bring on summer. my dh hates the heat but has also frozen this winter! he too wants the sun back. just a different life style so the heat really isnt a major problem. i have lived in melbourne and it was hotand sticky in the summer. northerly winds. adelaide is also hot and dry. All the hospitals have very good air con.. maybe too good and the dont switch it off in the winter, so a bit like the heating in the uk.. too hot in summer and ok in winter.. here its frezing in winter and good in summer. i wear a fleece over my uniform in the winter here! (inside)
so dont let the heat put you off you really will acclimatise, and nursing can be pretty good over here, especially if you work in the private sector! bed making teams, orderlys that.. move/ turn.. patients for you.. good patient ratio, the last hospital i was at had ratio of one nurse to 4 patients on an early, 6 on a late and 8 over night!

Ozziegirly · 14/08/2008 05:09

DH and I - Sydney. Been here for 9 months, both brits.

Love everything about it - the best decision we have ever made coming out here. The lifestyle, weather, people, everything is better than we had in the UK and nothing would make me want to go back.

superloopy · 14/08/2008 07:59

Is anyone else a little pissed off at the opinions expressed about Australia/ns on the "be honest about what Aust is really like" thread?

I am feeling shocked that we are all being so horribly generalised as racist and sexist! This is not the Australia I know and love!

I think I will just stay away from it...
