I just finished the old thread by accident

SB sorry about your news. How terribly shocking. No-one I know too is it? So very sad. As for the small "loud" person. I would say, yes some people are small, some are tall and some have different colored skins, however that doesn't mean you should shout out loud about it. They are already aware what they look like - or something like that.

We've carved a pumpkin. Yeah and bought another one. Halloween decs going up this week. I'm syched. I love the fall in Colorado.

SuperBunny · 20/10/2008 04:14

No-one you know, Ali, I don't think. I can email you his name, if you want to be certain. All terribly sad.

The Fall is lovely round here too. It is definitely better than in the UK, even here in the city. We have pumpkins ready too - 1 to carve and one to make into soup.

I think you're right about the small one - he just took me by surprise and I suddenly had no idea what was acceptable to say and what wasn't.

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. My mum arrives on Friday, yay!

as far as I've experience, all children make these embarrassing remarks.

My brother when he was small went into a newsagents with my mum, glanced at the top shelf and loudly announced 'mum, when I look at those ladies my willie goes like this' and pointed his finger up in the air.

We've had all the remarks, 'why has that man only got one leg?' 'that lady's smoking, she's naughty, isn't she?' etc etc. I don't think anybody who's ever had children would mind, their own children have probably done it.

rofl at these stories

SuperBunny · 21/10/2008 03:55

Dooney, my lovely, how is Colin? And how are you?

dooneygirl · 21/10/2008 04:03

He was fine today, so I sent him to school (after checking his temp 3 times) and he did great. Then an hour after he got home, he told me he wanted me to check his temperature, and it was 100.6. So I put a washcloth on his head, called it good, and 2 hours later, he was back to 99.1. Without any medicine. Therefore, I'm wildly nuts again, because I don't understand.

Caitlin is quite tired and whiny today, and I can tell she's a bit warm and sick, so I think that's the cause, I just don't understand why he has 1 temperature in the 100-101 range per day, and then is fine. If he's still doing this in a few days, I guess I'll take him to the Dr., but I know they're just going to tell me it is what is going around here, because it is going around here. I didn't work at his school today, because the teacher only had 5 kids as the rest were sick, and she said she'd be fine on her own with that few.

SuperBunny · 21/10/2008 04:14

It all sounds very odd Dooney but I am glad he is ok most of the time. Hope Caitlin doesn't get any worse.

dooneygirl · 21/10/2008 04:25

'Tis all a plot to make me lose my sanity. At this rate, I'll last another 5 hours or so.

anorak · 21/10/2008 12:23

dooney I hate to say it but I think I remember essbee's son having these wild temperature spikes just before he was very ill with Kawasaki disease

Please check this out as if it is this early treatment is vital.

dodgykeeper · 21/10/2008 15:56

Dooney, you must be soooo tired! I hope things are ok soon.

re things kids say, my ds does it all the time. He told a very large, hairy biker who did not have a helmet on that he was being naughty and his brain would fall out. Luckily the guy thought it was funny! Last week he told me that he had a new kid in his class. When I asked what he was like, I was told "he has the best tan ever, but my teacher says its not a tan, its because he is Aslan" We had a long conversation about how the child was not a mythical, talking lion but I still dont think he was convinced. Its funny because his best friend has very dark skin and he doesn't seem to have noticed. my dd says that skin is like chocolate - different colours but all good. I like that

SuperBunny · 22/10/2008 03:03

Good point Anorak. I'm sure it's nothing serious but this is obviously quite exhausting for you, Dooney. Hope he was ok today.

LOL@ Dodgy's story. I love kids! DS seems totally unaware of the skin colour of his friends and doesn't seem to notice that several of them speak other languages.

We've just been given a bucket full of candy, cakes and chocolate bars by a lovely lady in our building. We often see her but I don't know which apartment she is in and I don't know her name so am not entirely sure how to do a thank you note.

dooneygirl · 22/10/2008 04:16

Well, he doesn't have any of the symptoms I can physically check myself, and has only had 1 spike over 102, so I'm only going to mildly worry about Kawasaki disease. So far, he hasn't even broken 99 today. I really wish I hadn't typed that, because now he will.

Today Colin asked me what would happen if I didn't love him. I didn't have an answer for him. I told him that would never happen, but he was looking for a concrete example.

He and I went to Michael's today when Caitlin was at school, and got Halloween lollipop mo(u)lds and sticks and melting chocolate. I decided that I'm going to do cake lollipops in Halloween sprinkles, and a chocolate one for the treats we're supposed to bring for their classes.

You know it is an election year when your DS runs around the house saying "I'm Jeff Merkley and I approve this message." And the only thing we watch that has commercials is sometimes 1/2 hour of the news, and 1/2 hour of Jeopardy.

mananny · 22/10/2008 04:22

Hello folks
all this election talk is driving me mad! But I am leaning towards Obama. Shame I don't actually have a vote.

Anyhoo, Dooney I am glad to hear your DS is doing better. SuperBunny I have some happy news for you which I will email.

Gosh I love Halloween, if only for the candy. I seem to have developed an addiction to Swedish fish. Yummy

SuperBunny · 22/10/2008 04:33

Oooo Mananny, how exciting. I was thinking about you this week.

SuperBunny · 22/10/2008 04:45

Dooney, link to lollipops, please! I want to make these

Lol @ I'm Jeff Merkley. DS is oblivious to the election. You can buy Obama shirts in Walgreens. I keep thinking I should get him some sort of momento - you know, an 'I met the man who was going to be president' kind of thing

dodgykeeper · 22/10/2008 16:51

Totally off subject but Im so excited I had to share! I just bought some CHristmas crackers!! I went into Tuesday Morning looking for a kids jigsaw (ds current obsession) and there they were. Not only that but they match my decs and they were only $7.

On election through kids eyes, my dd thought he was called Barry Kabama.

SuperBunny · 22/10/2008 18:02

rofl @ Barry Kabama

Great news about the crackers. I am crackerless

dooneygirl · 22/10/2008 18:09

Here you are SB I've seen the same bake a cake, turn it into crumbs, add frosting recipe several times on the internet, so I'm just going to make my own cake, turn it into crumbs and add my own cream cheese frosting to mine.

I was hoping to get rid of my old crappy baking chocolate since I've actually discovered chocolate baking bar heaven, but all recipes keep saying use chocolate chips or melting chocolate discs, so I'll have to pawn it off on some unsuspecting sap other baker.

dooneygirl · 22/10/2008 18:10

Costco had a big thingy of Christmas crackers last year. I remember seeing them and thinking, "Hmm, Christmas crackers". It was a very profound moment.

SuperBunny · 22/10/2008 18:24

They look fabulous, Dooney. I've seen a different version of those before but it always seems too fiddly and puts me off

Will you post a photo when you have made them?

Finding Christmas crackers is a profound moment. I had the same experience in Williams Sonoma one year.

I need details of good chocolate!

dooneygirl · 22/10/2008 18:32

I will, but they won't be that pretty, as I'm only going to use brown chocolate and orange sprinkles, as the little goobers seem to not like white chocolate as much. I'd put more work into pretty, but my target audience is 3 to 5 year olds.

Scharffen Berger chocolate. It used to be independent, but was bought out by Hershey. The quality is supposed to have dropped a little bit, but it is still amazing. I made brownies with it that I usually make with Ghiradelli chocolate, and they were so much better. Even DH noticed, and I didn't tell him. It is a bit more expensive and harder to find, but I've found it at my local Fred Meyer, and Cost Plus has it.

Don't get mad at me, but I bought some Green and Blacks at the same time to try, and it was better than what I've been using, but the Scharffen Berger was so much deeper tasting, and oh, velvetier, I guess. I don't really know how to explain. All I know is that is what I will be baking with all the time from now.

SuperBunny · 22/10/2008 18:47

I think they sell it in Trader Joe's. Or Whole Foods. I've never tried it. I think I will next time. I'm not a huge fan of Green and Black's. I think I should like it more than I do.
