OP posts:

Oh God I know, my friend back in the UK had a baby boy 3 weeks ago and she sent me photos. I could all but smell that delicious new baby smell. I am sooooooo broody.

On another note I need a husband. Know any nice single guys who'd wed me quick??!! LOL.

jabberwocky · 21/08/2008 02:31

Are you in Boston? I have a nephew there who's single

mananny · 21/08/2008 02:35

Ooooh tell me more Jabber

SuperBunny · 21/08/2008 02:35

Oh, I need one too - know anyone in ChiTown, Jabber?

mananny · 21/08/2008 02:39

LOL SB...

jabberwocky · 22/08/2008 02:29

He's 27, works for some company doing computer stuff (techno-phobe here so not sure exactly what) VERY into kite-boarding. He just took 3 months personal leave to check out the best kite-boarding areas including St. Lucia but is now back in Boston.

Oh, he also plays the upright bass - very well!

BovineBeauty · 22/08/2008 02:37

my twins are 6, do u find it easier as they are not actually yours? i still ahve real full on times???

BovineBeauty · 22/08/2008 02:38

that was for mananny, ooops. new at dis. hugs

mananny · 22/08/2008 02:50

Jabber, I'm a little older than him LOL (well not that much actually, 3 yrs)... does he want a buxom English wench for a wife???!!! And wow at the kite boarding, I've seen it done but have no desire to try it myself. Am rather splendidly endowed in the norkage department so it would have to be a kite roughly the size of China to get me moving!

And I do like a guy who can play an instrument.

Computers are allergic to me, no idea whether techno-folks would be too.

Hmmmm.

BovineBeauty, I have yet to experience the joys of a non-full-on moment with my twins yet. The only time i really relax is when they are in a seperate country to me and so far that's only happened once in 2.5yrs! But I am a staunch believer in 3 things: meal and sleep routine, manners, and no physical violence (them to me as well as to each other!) ... so far we are all getting along but it is a fast life and tiring too. Lil lady has decided to pull a Lindsay Lohan this week and act like a spoilt little madam, throwing tantrums and flailing and wailing dramatically at any opportunity. On the plus side she is finally completely potty trained for pees and poops!!! Lil fella is so chilled he acts stoned a lot of the time. He's really scary-smart though and can hit a golf ball almost 80 yards in a straight line. His parents are DELIGHTED. Bear in mind they are 3 in November. I have had to start being Really Strict, and put them in time outs for stuff. He will bite when tired. She just flails until she hits her head on something, then the real tears come. Generally they are amazing sleepers (8pm-7am, plus 3hr nap in avo) and tend to eat really well at least half the week.

I can't imagine them getting any easier!!! But I love them and don't think I'll ever not be in their lives. I find it easier to discipline them some of the time as I can tell crocodile tears a mile off, whereas mummy and daddy melt at the merest glimpse of a damp eye.

They are a lot of fun!!!

SuperBunny · 22/08/2008 03:33

lol @ mananny and her norks Make the most of them. Mine disappeared when I had DS.

Well done on the potty training!

Hope everyone is ok.

jabberwocky · 22/08/2008 03:43

lol mananny, have no idea whether he is a boobman or not

mananny · 22/08/2008 03:47

LMAO Jabber. Probably not something you could (or should) ask him!!

mananny · 23/08/2008 20:10

Good grief, I know my norks can stop traffic, but I've never killed a thread with them before!

Hello, I'd like to join you all please? I arrived in New York on Saturday, my husband is seconded here for 3 years.

Many of you posted helpfully on a thread I started when I was trying to decide whether to come. We did. And a lot of hard work it was too. Now we are here, my list of tasks seems so un-urgent. It's lovely.

Anyone else in NYC?

Earlybird · 25/08/2008 15:12

welcome alarkaspree - do you have dc, and if so, how old? Also, have you got a permanent place to live in NYC?

I lived there for 10 years pre dd - from '86-'95 - and loved it....

Do you know anyone in the city?

alarkaspree · 25/08/2008 15:24

Hi Earlybird. I have dd aged 4 and ds aged 2. We spent 3 months here last year so we know the city quite well, and have a few acquaintances and one family who are really good friends from London but who now live here. dd will be starting school next week so I'm hoping we will get to know more people through her.

We are buying an apartment but it's not quite built yet so we're in corporate accommodation for now.

Where do you live now?

alarkaspree · 25/08/2008 15:26

Please overlook that question mark in my first post. I don't know what I was thinking.

Earlybird · 25/08/2008 15:35

We left London last summer, and are now in Tennessee.

Good that you have some friends in the city. I do find school is a wonderful way to meet other parents - but perhaps challenging as imagine most NYC Mums work office jobs out of necessity because it's so expensive in the city.

What part of Manhattan will you live in? I was on the upper west side most of the time, and loved it.

alarkaspree · 25/08/2008 16:28

How is Tennessee? I don't really know the US apart from the east coast.

That's a good point about working mums, I think all the SAHMs I met last year were expats. Maybe I will meet some really nice nannies.

We're living in Battery Park City. It's close to dh work so he gets home early and has lovely playgrounds and green space, I think we will be happy here.
