Since living in Norway I can't get enough of a slightly sweet fish paste (sounds disgusting I know) called Kaviar. I used to hate this in the UK when my mum used to bring it back from Sweden but now I'm totally hooked. Also my love of herrings have increased and Lingonberries.
Do you think these new addictions will stay when we move back to the UK in a few years time or do you thinks its purely a cultural thing?

admylin, how envious am I that you have shops open on a sunday, especially a bakery!

Sad isn't it but me too! Our town in UK only has a small Booths supermarket but it's like heaven for me!

admylin · 29/02/2008 12:10

Beck, lol -it really is just the bakery! Germany hasn't got that far yet although in Berlin you can find shops open at the train station. The rest of Germany still spends a day of rest and boredom at home on a Sunday.

After Thailand - Thai food esp curries and stirfires and salads and soups and all of it really!

Vietnam - the fresh herbs everywhere and with every dish.

Bulgaria - didn't get addicted to anything really - although love the fresh salads.

Hungary - nothing. Find it a very heavy fatty cusine.

belgo · 29/02/2008 12:30

thai food inThailand is delicious. You've lived in some interesting places Buda!

Buda · 29/02/2008 12:32

beck3 · 29/02/2008 12:45

beck3 - that fish stuff is awful, or it is if it's the same stuff they sell in Sweden anyway!! (Whereabouts in Norway are you btw?) I like the black salty sweets though - just not when they are hidden in a pack of fruit sweets and I'm expecting blackcurrant!

I'm now addicted to the 400 types of yoghurt and milk you can buy here in every shop. Also falukorv. Lingonberries here too - yum.

beck3 · 29/02/2008 13:26

Seasidemama, I know its awful but something wierd has happened to my taste buds over here and I just LOVE it now.
We are in Stavanger and its been great exploring all the supermarkets. One of the most exciting things, though, is buying fresh fish and seafood straight from the boats in the harbour. Can't get fresher than that.

We have them here too but I've not been brave enough to go yet.

Are they mad for pic'n'mix sweet (like in Woolies) in Norway too? They are everywhere here...not good for post-partum weight loss!

beck3 · 29/02/2008 13:33

Haven't seen alot of pic'n'mix about but with you on the baby weight loss. Have just joined a gym......just need to go now....

Here in Singapore I love pomelos, which are like big sweet grapefruits. I also love satay, peanut sauce and Tiger beer. I haven't taken to chilli crab though or durians. Even the smell of durians is .

AuldAlliance · 29/02/2008 14:51

Where I lived before, I could pick lychees off the tree in my friend's garden. I miss that; cherry season is pretty nice here, but not quite the same.
Now, I've got really into tapenade.

scaryteacher · 29/02/2008 18:41

Another Belgian resident - have to have whipped cream with the melted chocolate over the waffles...also addicted to Kriek (cherry beer), and I quite like croquettes as well. I also love the Smos club rolls from the sandwich shop in Tervuren. Not quite sure about the lasagne here though, it unnerves me finding sliced ham in it.

beck3 · 29/02/2008 18:43

Whipped cream and melted chocolate! That sounds divine!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also plain chocolate digestive.

I've got friends from down south coming up to Berlin over Easter - this has reminded me to ask them to bring some with them!

Tickle · 29/02/2008 21:10

Boco - don't see why not - I'll gladly give it a try... I can't see it sitting anywhere centrally heated on its journey, and it is vacc packed - you would have to eat it quickly that's all!

email me at tamsin underscore bg at hotmail dot com if you want to give me your address

globetrotterinvietnam · 01/03/2008 03:46

I'm addicted to loads of new things, surprising as I was a VERY picky eater at 21 (I'm 24 now).

In Vietnam there's a sort f sweet soup. You can either have it warm or with ice, and you can pick between fruit, beans, bread dumplings or other things. I also like pho and bun bo hue, they're both soups. I like the spring rolls here as well.

In Thailand I like sticky rice and banana, soup with coconut milk, longuns, durian, dragon fruit and jackfruit. I adore sugarcane juice too!

I've gone up to 37 kilos with all of this. And no, I'm not anorexic, just very small.

MrsJohnCusack · 01/03/2008 05:43

ooooh my friend lived near Stavangar a few years back (Egersund) and we loved visiting!
