well you get shunted off into some touristy place which has little to do with the real life in Egypt IYSWIM?

I don't know where else to go though. Anything I suggest, dh always says "it isn't warm enough there" and I don't fancy flying 13 hours or anything like that.

Well, we'll see.

Think you forgot the fragile male ego there admylin! I suppose it sounded like you felt he wouldn't have a chance against the competition in Dallas. Why shouldn't they offer him the position though, if he is happy to take it under those conditions? No idea about Hannover really. Better the devil you know?

admylin · 26/02/2008 11:54

I know, poor old fragile dh, I must remember to praise him abit more this week, he needs it a couple of times a week at least (oops that sounds naughty)!

In the mean time I'm really starting to dislike his boss, he leaves everything to the last minute - he's a young single and doesn't realise people with families have to plan ahead.

admylin · 26/02/2008 11:58

Do any of the German residents watch that X factor - the German version (DSDS)? One of the candidates, who was thrown of the show for lying about his age, is my neighbour (ex-neighbour) and his dc go to school withour dc. I feel so sorry for them, they come sneeking into school 5 or 10 minutes late and the boy has had some other kids laughing at him - then the other day the dad turned up at school and all the 6th year girls ran over as if he was a star and asked him 'hast du wirklich Dieter Bohlen verarscht?' Poor kids.

SSSandy2 · 26/02/2008 12:02

It's a tough life in academia because of the limited contracts and then never knowing what will happen next and constantly having to apply for this and that. My cousin now has a permanent position but she had a hard-time of it beforehand. It is a pleasant life though apart from that aspect of things I suppose. Think maybe moving into industry might be a wise move to have a bit more security. Is dh a chemist by profession?

admylin · 26/02/2008 12:05

No, dh is now a clinical neuroscientist (neuropharmacology and physiology were his main subjects)

SSSandy2 · 26/02/2008 12:07

I saw the first Staffel I think it was. There was a young girl there who was still at school and she really couldn't sing but she was nice looking and week for week she'd be voted back in and then have to perform again, another Blamage, cutting criticism and the whole thing again the next week. Dh and I were thinking, imagine being her dp!

I hate some of the nasty stuff they say to these kids though. OK some of them are tone deaf and really shouldn't do this to themselves but I don't like the scathing comments so don't watch it anymore. Don't know anything about this boy you mentioned but he isn't the first to e kicked out for lying about his age.

Maybe you and I should apply next time adymlin as a twin act! That should shake 'em all up!

SSSandy2 · 26/02/2008 12:08

ah ok I thought chemistry because of Ludwigshafen

admylin · 26/02/2008 12:12

something like this?

admylin · 26/02/2008 12:13

In Ludwigshafen they wanted a behavioural pharmacologist which he is also qualified for.

SSSandy2 · 26/02/2008 12:17

bingo! That's the goods. It woudl be a scream. KS is included because of all her karaoke experience. I suppose we'd have to let Bero off because of her ds being so young. Maybe we should just ALL do it together eh girls? All ENglish speaking mums in Germany. We'd have to sing in German though with a truly horrible English accent. What would we call ourselves?!

Does it get to you too everyone, the way these DSDS candidates all sing "djou" instead of "you". It gets my goat. Do they teach them to sing it like that? I feel like screaming "YOU, it's y - ou, there's no "d-j" in there FGS"

admylin · 26/02/2008 12:21

Meant to tell Finknottle there is a green house on offer at Lidl this week, did you see it? here

chrissi1 · 26/02/2008 14:25

Sometimes it sounded like they just listen ed to it .I´m sure they had no text.
I wonder how some could go there ( still in school) and sing that you like to leave the room .Did´nt they told their parents?
But then remember this father who still belived his son could sing??
It must be a nightmare in school

chrissi1 · 26/02/2008 14:26

at school,sorry!

trockodile · 26/02/2008 15:59

SSSandy2-don't worry, raining and miserable today! Yesterday DS spent 2 lovely hours playing in the garden, and asked for the paddling pool!

Has anyone ever been(going) to any of the courses at Church House(army) in Lubbecke? My friend has dropped out of this weekends course and asked if i want to go. Just wondered if anyone knows anything about it? Long shot I know.

Has anyone heard from Thequietone? I think she was having planned CS this week. Good luck if you are about, hope all goes/has gone well.

Kindersurpise · 26/02/2008 19:10

Oh, yes with my karaoke experience I would be at least as well prepared as some of the DFDS candidates.

I do wonder if these people have no truly honest friends. Surely if your DC or friend asked you if they could sing then you would tell them the truth. Did you see the guy recently whose singing teacher came in and started berating the jury? He is apparently from our village, he is a hairdresser and the young girls go in and ask him to sing a song.

Singstar told me that I was very good at Elton John but miserable at Pussycat Dolls (which was a huge laugh to sing though)

Dont'cha Dont'cha?

SSSandy2 · 26/02/2008 19:13

Hi trockodile, I'm not (quite) such an old curmudgeon that I'd begrudge you lot out west a bit of sunshine. I'm working on it though...

Never heard of those courses. Might be good. Do they have a website you could look at maybe so you know what to expect? Lubbeck is quite a nice small place, went there years ago.

Chrissi I KNOW, you wonder have these people never listened to a tape of themselves singing or asked anyone's opinion before they go off to have themselves broadcast nationwide looking a total fool?! Apparently not eh?

Don't think much of the superstars they've found so far though, do you? So no wonder they're still am Suchen..

thequietone, I was thinking of her today. Hope she's ok. You're right she must be having her baby soon. Let's all send her some positive vibes!

SSSandy2 · 26/02/2008 19:29

oops crossed posts ks, how are you? Funny how everyone seems to know someone from DSDS - except me as usual!

Kindersurpise · 26/02/2008 19:48

Fine, Sandy, except that DS fell asleep at 5pm for an hour and has decided that he is not going to bed now. He did not sleep in kita today.

I sometimes wonder about DSDS, there seems to be an infinate amount of candidates. Where do they all come from.

Aargh, here he comes again.

SSSandy2 · 26/02/2008 20:04

I was wondering ks what the F was in your earlier post about "DFDS"?!

Kindersurpise · 26/02/2008 20:15

Ah, I have been searching for a reasonalble deal recently for the ferry to UK, DFDS Ferries.

Kindersurpise · 26/02/2008 21:35

OOOOOOOOH, come and see what I have stumbled across. Anyone used this company? Britishsupermarketworldwide

They have the usual bisto, tea, beans etc. But they also do a big M&S range, and medicines. Lemsip, Calpol, Tixylix etc. All the lovely coloured and yummy tasting medicines that the DCs actually ask to be given even if they are not ill. They spit the German stuff out.

Will go and explore some more

Kindersurpise · 26/02/2008 21:46

The shipping costs are pretty high, so it would only be worth it when buying a few things. About 10pounds for a packet of Lemsip, but with other stuff (cake, couch medicine, Teabags, M&S Korma sauce, Golden Syrup) it was 15pounds.

admylin · 26/02/2008 22:02

I use this place for marmite and co. www.foodfromhome.de and as they are based in Germany it only costs 5 Euro to deliver which is the price of a trip into town and back really. Quite quick delivery too for when you have run out of marmite or such like!

Kindersurpise · 26/02/2008 22:25

I have seen the foodfromhome website before, but have never ordered from them. It was the Markies stuff and the medicines that got me all excited there.

But for that price, I could get my Mum to post them. Or save up a bit and pay my Mum a cheap flight.

admylin · 26/02/2008 22:33

The medicines would be handy, I think there is another website that does them but I usually manage to get enough in UK. You know I have to go round all the chemists in town back home because they are apparantly only allowed to sell you so much and I always want to stock up so I have to go from shop to shop buying the maximum, especially anything for dc.
