Hi just wondered if there are any other mumsnet mums or mums 2 be living in Italy. As things over here seems 2 be done quite differently it would be go 2 talk 2 another parent who has done it before or is as confused as me. Mums over here don't seemed 2 be given the same sort of info which is freely available 2 mums in the uk. Not sure why. Although I have no complaints about the care both me and my babe have rec'd so far. Would love 2 hear from others and chat about how they have found things over here.

sasa15 · 01/07/2006 17:45

Yes.....but I don't live close to my family and friends....as we decided to move on the coast and
they are in a small town in the mountain...

but we do see them often....

MaryP0p1 · 01/07/2006 17:46

Hi Sash15, good 2 hear from another mumsnetter over here. My DD is 20 months and a real joyful handful. How does ur ds cope with the dual languages? Does ur hubby always speak to him n English? I am amazed at how adaptable my dd is depending who is speaking to her. Puts me 2 shame.

Marypop1, have ur kids picked up italian easily?

sasa15 · 01/07/2006 18:12

Hi tanktop
yeah he spoke both languages....I do both as well... mainly english in the house and italian outside the house....(he speaks italian at nursery)

he often mixed them up....

I guess is ok anyway....

hubby only speak english ...his italian is still pretty bad!"!!!

Tanktop · 01/07/2006 18:12

Soz. Please don't mention Indian food. God I miss foreign foods so so much. There is an Indian restaurant in a town 20km away n Livorno but as yet have not tried it. We did go 2 a Mexican there which was ok but have heard that its now closed. Would die for a thai meal. Don't u think even the chinese food taste quiet italian over here?

Tanktop · 01/07/2006 18:13

Ur hubby sounds like me. How long has he been learning?

MaryP0p1 · 01/07/2006 18:14

My DH and I both worked in Soho for about 2 years so was often hanging around the many restaurants and pubs. I know what you mean about a curry BUT a few weeks ago we found an India about 10 mins drive away (haven't gone yet). Really excited about the prospect.

My DD (8) yes, didn't speak a word before September (when she started school) but her end of year report was all distinto and optimo and she received a optimo for a verifica in Italian grammar. I'm soooooo jealous. My son (4) pieno pieno. I know he dreams in Italian but doesn't flick languages like my d and his vocab is quite small but he very cutely makes up works or says with an Italian accent when he doesn't know the work. He's only 4 so I very happy.

MaryP0p1 · 01/07/2006 18:16

Sorry my typing is rubbish!

Tanktop · 01/07/2006 18:18

Kids are amazing. A friend moved over from Scotland last year with 3 boys who did'nt speak a word of Italian. You should hear them now out playing with all their friend. They sound like natives. Am so jealous.

MaryP0p1 · 01/07/2006 18:20

I went to the beah the other day and may friends came with their dual language kids and 2 groups of may students come to the same beach. In all there was about 10 kids with both English and Italian playing and swapping languages faster than I could. I was lovely to see.

Tanktop · 01/07/2006 18:21

Typical. Shop has be dead all day and now it's busy. I want 2 go home for my dinner. Nonna is cooking tea 2nite.

MaryP0p1 · 01/07/2006 18:22

Go on make me jealous, tell me

sasa15 · 01/07/2006 18:30

he's trying to learn from the local and sometimes from me....a bit of english course from
internet ...not much....dictionary....he get by,,,but poor grammar...

end up fighting if talk about it...

I'm expecting more....

he has english clients mainly over internet,...

watch english tv....

italian tv is awful...I agree in this!!!!

after one year....he get by!!

MaryP0p1 · 01/07/2006 18:35

Sounds like my husband. I work with Italians so have to do more than get by. Generally feel inadequate but when I tell people I've been here for a year they are surprised think I'd been here longer, so I think I may be just hard on myself and DH.

What kind of work does DH do?

sasa15 · 01/07/2006 22:27

only back now...........

Nothing bad but I don't think he likes me to talk
about his things ......

he is TEFL qualified and teach english as well--..apart his main job.....mainly computer........, internet...webdesign .......etc...

MaryP0p1 · 02/07/2006 09:24

My husband has a merchansing company in the UK, so all his business is in the UK. He goes back once a month for about a week. I teach English in a school in the mornings, its well for me. How does he find teaching, I know alot of english teachers find it harder to learn the language because enven in their work they are speaking in English not Italian. Its normal for men not to want to discuss their feeling don't you think?

sasa15 · 02/07/2006 16:07

oh yeah men!

MaryP0p1 · 02/07/2006 17:03

Men is a subject that could go on forever don't you think. I have a group of friends who have married Italians and for many years blamed their hubbies fault on the fact they were Italian. Comparing my husband and their husband we have come to realise the problem is the fact that they are men not which country they orginally come from...
