I've lived overseas for 2 years now and the only thing is tea. It doesn't even have to be PG or anything, Tesco's own will do. I can buy PG here actually but it's expensive.

Oh and Branston.

Oh and Cadbury's fruit and nut.

Oh and British TV.

Oh and British shops. (Waitrose, John Lewis, M&S, Jigsaw, Selfridges, Harvey Nicks, in fact Blue Water would do it)

sansouci · 31/05/2006 21:39

I'm going to the UK on Friday for the 1st time in years & I'm trying to decide what I will not live without anymore. Dh hates shopping so I have to know what I need before we go.

and then I think, how consumerist can I actually be? it's a disgrace and I should vow not to shop at all!

Bras! I live in Italy and have a terrible time trying to find a nice bra for a reasonable price. And they have NO idea about measuring, in fact their sizes go 1, 2, 3,4, 5, how crap is that?!

eidsvold · 31/05/2006 22:28

you can get tetley tea bags here in Aus.

sansouci · 31/05/2006 22:31

Yeah, you can get tetleys here in Switz too. At Jim's. But I'm seriously considering importing a breadmaker! and I love Bridgewater mugs.

Ditto the bra problem in Greece!!

I splash out on expensive imported pG tips because the yellow liptons tea bags that are widely sold here are gross.

liath · 01/06/2006 06:49

M&S undies
Marmite
Nice chocolate (if going somewhere like australia - the chocolate there tastes odd for some reason)
T-bags

I lived in Brazil for a year as a student, and didn't take anything for myself, but my Brazilian friends (who had previously lived in UK) wanted steak and kidney pies! I took those ones you get in tins so they wouldn't go off. Unfortunately when they went through the X-ray at the airport they looked like landmines. As this was in 1991, during the first gulf war, you can imagine the faces of the security people!

TheHonArfy · 01/06/2006 12:16

well I'm going to NZ so will find all this out - will be taking marmite though as it's different there. As is Weetabix - it's nasty there. And good tea is essential

I am soooo going to miss M&S and John Lewis, dreading it...

And Living TV

SSSandy · 01/06/2006 12:19

Actually I prefer vegemite to marmite. You can get all kinds of British brands of tea there, so wouldn't bother with that. It's a long time ago that I was there, have to think a bit...

TheHonArfy · 01/06/2006 12:47

I'm sure I'll get used the Weetabix and Marmite.

Apart from that, I think it's only M&S, John Lewis and Living TV I'll miss. Everything else in NZ is right up our street!

eidsvold · 01/06/2006 12:50

honArf we get foxtel ( = to sky tv) and so get living tv here in Aus.

Some aussie choc tastes funny as it is made with powdered milk rather than real milk.
