Can be
Can also be shite
Too many people dream about it without considering the reality of living in places where you can't speak the LANGUAGE AND PEOPLE DON'T CARE TWO HOOTS ABOUT YOU.

i'VE LIVED ABROAD MOST OF MY LIFE (oops) and the older i get,the more I want to be at home in Wales.
Smile

meowmix · 15/05/2006 13:25

Rhubarb · 15/05/2006 13:32

MrsMills · 15/05/2006 13:35

moondog · 15/05/2006 13:36

Ah yes.
There is a shopping complex called 'Pissy' in my town in Turkey.
I also liked thedrink 'Pschitt' when i lived in France.

moondog · 15/05/2006 13:37

Where are you MrsMills?
Where are you going meow?

MrsMills · 15/05/2006 13:37

We have 'plopp', which is a chocolate bar. Love that one.

Wouldn´t live in England for anything. Always shocked by the state of things when I go home on holiday. Education and health facilities are shocking, the food is poor and all people talk about is their boring houses and how hard they work and how badly done to they are. You can´t go out at night because of the drunks and disgusting behaviour on the streets.

Living abroad (in my experience) is a thoroughly civilised and happy lifestyle, even if language problems may raise their heads occasionally.

cod · 15/05/2006 13:38

MrsMills · 15/05/2006 13:38

Oh I loved living abroad. Would love to do it again, but won't. Alas.

moondog · 15/05/2006 13:44

P45,lol,you speak as if 'abroad' is one particular place!
Where were/are you?
How about you Jimjams??

meowmix · 15/05/2006 13:46

we're going to the Gulf - Qatar to be exact. So excited/terrified/panic stricken.

P45 · 15/05/2006 13:49

I´m on to my 3rd country in Western Europe. And speak 4 languages, which definitel helps. I`ve met very few expats who don´t much prefer it on the continent so I´m not alone here!

How are things in Turkey? DO u speak Turkish?

collision · 15/05/2006 13:49

Wouldnt live abroad again for all the tea in china!

UK is the place to be.

In Italy the

beauracracy was hell
tax was 40%
nothing to do in winter
really really hot in summer
The Tuscans were hard work
Very small minded people in our village
Central heating was sooooo expensive

Never ever ever again. i love England.

cod · 15/05/2006 13:51

moondog · 15/05/2006 13:52

I like Turkey.
We live in a v v remote part-only about 20 foreigners in a city of over a million,so no expat scene, which is a good thing!
I can get by,I had lessons for over a year.

Flum · 15/05/2006 13:53

bit of a wide topic.

I mean living in Iraq is probably a bit rubbish but Cayman Islands maybe bit better.

I lived in Greece for 6 years and loved it, mostly. Always nice to come home though.

collision · 15/05/2006 13:53

too many beans!!!!

And the sense of humour and having a laugh is missing abroad,

people just didnt get me!! and I am soooo funny!! Wink

moondog · 15/05/2006 13:55

British have the best sense of humour in the world.
I so miss it when i am away.

collision · 15/05/2006 13:56

exactly MD.

Do you get back to the UK much?

P45 · 15/05/2006 13:57

Got to disagree Moondog, you prefer the British soh because you understand it. It´s just difficult to tap into the foreign sense of humours. I love having English people to stay because we just click and have a real howl.

moondog · 15/05/2006 14:43

No P45
I've spent more time with foreigners than Brits, and still it's the best.

moondog · 15/05/2006 14:44

Yes collision.
In UK now.
Go back and forth 4/5 times a year.

Jimjamskeepingoffvaxthreads · 15/05/2006 14:52

I was in Japan Moondog. I'd love to live in Scandinavia for a bit, not anywhere hot. But it won't happen. Ah well dreaming is good for the soul.
