Yay! Sibbles back! Here's hoping the bank is all Hmm and stern and No Mr Sibble you SHALL NOT PASS ( it is middle earth after all).

In the meantime here's Wine and plenty of scope to bitch and rant away to us on here, we promise not to yell LTB or advise you that if only you met him at the door wrapped in cling film, it would all be cool. Although....... Kidding! Just kidding

Sorry that I'm all about me - well the bank gave him the loan - reactivated one we had paid off and wait for it - over the phone - neither of us had to go in and sign anything. Absolutely amazing Shock

WhatSheSaid · 02/04/2013 02:27

I hate how banks still hand out money too easily. When we got our mortgage the bank was trying to get us to take out about $150K more than we asked for - if we had we would probably have lost our house by now!

frikonastick · 02/04/2013 03:25

Shock no way! I suppose this just reinforces to him that you are making a big deal out of nothing, if the bank will loan the money :-(

Could you contact the bank and tell them his lack of job situation and that you don't want the loan.

lollystix · 02/04/2013 08:22

If you have your mortgage with your bank they will be thinking:
-They've never struggled to repay before and that counts for a lot
-We have security over their house so if it all goes tits up they have some equity
there.
-we could repossess the car if they can't make the payments

So not ideal from your perspective Sibble. I feel your pain to a small degree. DH and I have differing views to money and is a spender. I had to take on all his credit card debt pre kids and pay it off but he is much better now. Still frustrates me though that he can go out and spend and I think if I took the same approach and bought some of the stuff I wanted to match his spending where would it end? Caused lots of rows in the past but since the kids he is much better.

Sibble- that sucks. I hope DH gets a job soon which takes the pressure of you a bit.

Justabout- I didn't know that about bank credit cards. Ours is with our bank and currently maxed cos of DH's travel expenses. Gulp.

Yes, we have been meaning to for a while. We've had fairly low limits compared to the UK though- first was $2000. We pay it off every month but this month is going to be very tight until the expenses come through.

Sibble · 02/04/2013 18:34

He has the car so I can't reverse it all now. What is done is done. Now just need to make sure we can pay everything off every month! Not sure how else we can tighten (well that is the royal we of course Grin, already meal plan, sell on trade me, work full time, limit treats etc...

Let's hope he can either get a job or get another small contract to increase the income.

Could always put him on trade me I guess - unemployed spendthrift, likes nice cars, clothes, lifestyle - very high maintenance - starting price $1 comes with all debt - any takers Grin

lollystix · 02/04/2013 19:57

I have maxed my card as we are down to our last $100 again (sigh). Will we ever get ontop of our finances in NZ?!

frikonastick · 02/04/2013 21:17

We don't have a credit card. Apparently being unemployed makes us ineligible. Who'dve thought it! Lol. It was quite hard though, because you can't draw more than two or three thousand a day in cash. And lots of places won't accept cheques. When we bought the fridge and washing machine, we had to go pay in installments! Luckily they weren't bothered at the store, so it was cool.

WhatSheSaid · 02/04/2013 23:54

I just have one of those visa debit cards so I can still buy stuff online but can't run up large amounts on it. And if someone got hold of my details they couldn't fraudulently use it as it's linked to an old account that has nothing in it (apart from specific amounts I transfer in to pay for online purchases)

Congrats Justabout! That's huge news!

Sibble · 03/04/2013 04:07

Congrats justa. Don't be fooled like I was, permanent only lasts for 2 years then you have to get it renewed (read the very small print). They wanted to send me back to London from Brisbane when mine had expired. In the end they let me return to NZ as I was with dss and dh all on NZ passports and I had to be escorted to immigration with the illegals and other idiots who thought permanent meant just that permanent Hmm. Luckily they were not filming that day Grin
