Lindor no more; leaving Switzerland in 7 weeks

MmeLindor. · 08/01/2012 13:37

Countdown starts now.

Thought I would start a thread where I could whinge and moan to save my husband having to listen to me.

Sorted:
Flights, ferry, hotel (still need one in Metz), movers,

Still to do:
insurances, cars, mail forwarding, sale of furniture, clean house (dear GOD, the Swiss are fussy), cancel utilities and phones, check dog's vaxs and pet travel stuff.

What else do I need to think of?

Moving to Scotland till summer, then to Germany.

And do I need a new name on MN?

What would you call yourself? MMeHighlandToffee?

Good luck with it all. Are you looking forward to it or will you really miss Switzerland? It all sounds very exciting.

MmeLindor. · 08/01/2012 13:42

I will miss our house and the scenery, and our friends.

Tbh, I am ready to leave CH. It is pretty boring here, and bloody expensive. Fine for a couple of years, but I would not want to stay indefinitely. Very very difficult to make friends with the locals.

I have only been to Zurich for weekend trips, but I do remember it as being eye-wateringly expensive for everything.

Can you get someone to clean your house - nothing worse that having to clean a house that you have moved out of (and have already left 'mentally'). Mind you I expect that would cost an arm and a leg.

MmeLindor. · 08/01/2012 13:47

Getorf
Sit down before I tell you this.

House cleaning service - at LEAST CHF 2000, probably more.

That is £1400ish.

Cheaper to fly my Mum over :o

Jesus christ!

Your kids are old enough to get to work cleaning aren't they? Grin

MmeLindor. · 08/01/2012 14:30

I have been wasting my time here, should have set up a cleaning business years ago.

Wow. Big changes. Are you excited or apprehensive or a bit of both?

Are you sorted for a place to stay in Scotland? What will the dc for for school during all this moving around?

Can you store some stuff in Switzerland/Germany (somewhere close to where you'll be living) in order to avoid taking it all to Scotland and then back to the continent?

MmeLindor. · 08/01/2012 14:46

We will be staying with my parents in Scotland and the DC can got to the local school.

DH will be in temp accommodation till we find something in Germany, which is the reason for the Scottish "holiday", and till we can get the kids into school there.

Not apprehensive really, have done a few big moves, but this one will take some organisational skills, due to us going to different places.

I think you should just change to MrsLindor

BecauseImWorthIt · 08/01/2012 14:48

Then you can go (back?) to being FrauLindor when you're in Germany!

Earlybird · 08/01/2012 14:49

Or FrauLindor

MmeLindor. · 08/01/2012 14:50

oh, that would be easy. Guess I am so used to being Mme.

It will take some getting used to.

We have stayed here in Metz twice. It is clean, friendly and basic. You can book parking in their little locked 'internal' parking area too.

MmeLindor. · 08/01/2012 17:49

Cheese
Thanks, I have enquired at this one www.hotelcathedrale-metz.fr/ and it has great reviews on TripAdvisor, but if they don't have a room free, will try yours.

Started researching whether my mum needs a permission form to fly with the kids (she does) and what else she needs. (She is flying over to pick them up to save them the drive)

ooh moving again! Seems no time ago that you were moving to Switzerland. Good luck with it, hope it all works out well

BenderBendingRodriguez · 08/01/2012 18:57

MsTablet for the Scottish stay, then FrauPralinen once you're settled Grin

kodokan · 09/01/2012 05:22

We left Switzerland a few months ago and moved to the US. It's quite straightforward once you've got the magic deregistration notice from your commune (do this a month in advance) - all the companies just release you from whatever contracts with little or no notice. Health insurance is in complete months, so make sure your departure notice is dated end of Feb, not 1 March, for example, otherwise you'll be paying for all of March.

Don't forget that you can withdraw any 3rd pillar payments you may have made minus a teeny withholding tax, along with most of your 2nd pillar company scheme (again minus a smidge of tax) - the non working spouse has to sign off on this release, and it has to be notarised (tons of notaires in Yellow Pages).

Good luck with it!

Jacksmania · 09/01/2012 05:34

Aren't Milka chocolates German? You can't ditch Mme :) but how about MmeMilka?

Jacksmania · 09/01/2012 05:35

Crap, I see someone already suggested it. I skim-read, thought it said MmeMcMillan. Blush

kreechergotstuckupthechimney · 09/01/2012 07:39

Grin for leaving CH or is that just my memories?
With regard to the cleaning, we paid a man 2500 CHF to clean our flat once we'd left.
It was under the table (shoot me), otherwise it would have cost 4k. He did guarnatee that it would pass the inspection though.
Dont' forget the dishwasher. We almost forgot to get it serviced, although it could be different in your canton.
Good luck in your next venture.

kreechergotstuckupthechimney · 09/01/2012 07:39

Spelling and punctuation are shot to shit. Apologies.
