I was looking for thumbwitch's recipe for that cake and found the old thread has disappeared so Linzer and I thought we'd resurrect it!

Perhaps he's intimidated by your mighty cupcakeness! Venison casserole sounds lovely to me. I have a load of elk in the freezer given to us by the money man in the company! Must get some out and make something.

oooh, elk! Is that like venison, or is it more gamey?
I love venison - miss it, it's not exactly commonly available out here! We used to have it quite often in England, well around 4-6 times a year Grin, because the farmers' market local to my work always had a "game" stall, so every month I'd bring back something, venison, pheasant, partridge or something.

Just had round 2 of the awesome home-made pizza from last night - it tasted even better cold, so the dough must have been ok! As I'm crossing threads with this info, I'll just say that it was a spelt flour recipe off t'internet for the dough, never tried it before but it was all right.

tadjennyp · 03/03/2011 02:21

It's been a while since I had venison so I can't really compare. It is a good lean meat that is excellent for lowering cholesterol, I believe. Yum to pizza. Dh working late tonight so who knows when we'll eat!

I think I had venison once (ex lived in the country and it got trapped in a fence so had to be killed, which agrees with my warped vegan principles). Can't remember what it was like though.

thumbwitch · 03/03/2011 08:45

ah no, I understand that, Penguin - I had a friend who was a vegetarian who would eat meat or fish that had had a happy life and then been shot or caught in its natural environment - so pheasant and wild fish were fine for her!

strandednomore · 03/03/2011 09:51

Hi all - it's morning here (although nearly 10am so sort of coffee time) (wish I had one of those cupcakes).

I am thinking of going to see the King's Speech on my own on Saturday afternoon - dh can look after the dd's as he is away all of next week so will owe me.

Thumb - Ann Arbor will pop up all the time now you have heard of it, I promise you.

I don't particularly like gamey meat. I have tried some wierd stuff in Venezuela and Cameroon (I have diplomatic parents) including Capybara (sort of giant guinea pig) and something wierd in Cameroon I think it was armadillo.

It's really cold here at the moment, I wish spring would come properly.

strandednomore · 03/03/2011 09:52

Jenny - what course are you doing?

kickassangel · 03/03/2011 13:08

i'm really not v adventurous with meat/fish etc, don't like things that taste too gamey or too fishy! dh loves all that. however, he doesn't like cakes much, nor does dd. which explains selling them - i have spent years giving them away cos i'm the only one who eats them in this house (i prob could manage 12 at a time, but do have a little self control)

so i'm encouraging dh to take on doing some of the main meals - especially as i start my teaching job on monday & will be baking during evenings & weekends.

Sorry meant to reply sooner stranded. I just did a two-hour CPD course on dealing with differing abilities and I teach German two hours a week for 8 weeks at a time. That is the extent of my financial contribution to the family at the moment! I wonder if the NUS card still looks the same and you can get the ISIC card for international purposes.

No you won't! are we going to run another one after this or has it had its day, what do you think? there are only a few posts left on this one, so just got time to decide and post a link if necessary. :)

tadjennyp · 07/03/2011 22:35

I'm game if everyone else is. Linzer seems to have gone awol, stranded is no more and haven't heard from frakkin for a while. We could always invite people onto threadkillers?
